      @@AriaIsara Oh how lovely that you have them visit your garden! That’s wonderful. You can actually buy special hedgehog food from some pet stores and online to help your little visitors stay well fed😊. Remember to put water out for them too, especially during very dry spells as they can struggle to find adequate water. But never put milk out for them as this makes them very sick with diarrhoea which can kill them. If you see a hedgie out during the day then he’ll be a sick hedgehog as they’re strictly nocturnal, so scoop him up (they don’t bite) and put him in a cardboard box with an old towel or t-shirt and get him to a wildlife rehab or vet that takes in wildlife. This year I've seen a few small ones who are probably teens. One got caught in the rat trap (humane trap, it doesn't kill) but I freed him in the morning. When I lived in Oregon, our tiny local pet store sometimes sold hedgehogs as pets. I remember always wanting one because they were so cute, but now I realize that they were probably robbed of a life in the wild to be someone's trendy pet. I'm so happy you rescued Shusha because it really shows how much you love her and that she is a part of your family rather than a trend.❤

    • @FoxxyFire-HellFrost
      @FoxxyFire-HellFrost 7 месяцев назад

      @osage__ True, but they're considered exotics in most places and require permits because they're not really supposed to be pets. Where I live, there are a lot of animals you can't just outright own. You need paperwork and training to prove you can handle them. There are also certain animals that require permits because of perceived threat to the environment. Ferrets are illegal to purchase or adopt where I live unless you have a permit. If you owned one in a state that allows it, then move here, that's legal. But you can't buy one while you live here without doing the paperwork. That's likely the same with hedgehogs here, but don't @ me on that.

    • @FoxxyFire-HellFrost
      @FoxxyFire-HellFrost 7 месяцев назад

      @osage__ I agree. It's unfortunate that other states have little to no restrictions on what animals they can own. This can cause a lot of irresponsible owners to purchase pets and then dump them once they grow up because they are difficult animals to own. A good example would be the many people who try to own foxes as pets. As they are wild animals, even if captive born, they have behaviors that can be destructive. This happens with other domesticated animals as well. Our pet rabbit we adopted was dumped in the wild, but was luckily rescued. The likely story is that, as a baby, she was someone's Easter gift. But once she got older, she wasn't properly socialized and was (as bunnies are) destructive. So, rather than take responsibility for the animal they owned, they dumped her assuming she could survive. This is extremely common amongst Easter themed animals (bunnies, ducks, chicks) which causes a lot of senseless deaths or rescued animals with no social skills which makes them hard to adopt out. Domesticated animals can't survive in the wild, so these people dumping pet bunnies out in the wild is a death sentence. It was just lucky that our bunny was found but it had profound, and very damaging, effect on her mind.

    Seeing this makes me miss my pet hedgie, Pickie. The little dude was very friendly and liked being held and pet. He'd curl up in a hat of mine that he commandeered and sleep in my lap. I have long hair and curled up next to my neck in a nest of my hair was his favorite place to be. He passed away last March from very aggressive cancer at three years old curled up in my hair while I held him. Miss you dude.

    My grandmother loved hedgehogs and rescued them. I love them. There was a island in the British Isles where they wanted to keep the population down. I was not able to use social media. I knew there was a shortage every where else. Well duh I thought, why don't they find the island ones and take them everywhere else needed. Luckily they said on the news a year or two later we don't give kill them all after all just move them where there are few. I was relieved and surprised they didn't work it out before encouraging everyone to eat them.
    I saved a hacksaw once. He was affectionate. He slept I my handbag as he was a baby.

    They can be incredibly sweet little pin cushions. My mom took one in that was older from one of her friends moms. The mom was going into assisted living and couldn’t take the little one with her.
    She brought this little girl home and she was pretty much wild. How do you fix this? Well! You give it to your 9 year old son that’s how! She only lasted 2 years as she was already pretty old…but she was a lot of fun once we tamed her

      ''Current affairs''? Like what? Genocides, wars? Call things by their name, please. Please cry more about your ''anger and sadeness'' at things that don't affect you and that you can't even call as they are. Are you suffering from constant shelling, from occupation, from war? No. Then don't you dare say you need to ''heal'' from that as it is NOT YOUR PAIN. BTW, woman in the video is Ukrainian so your comment is even more inappropriate. It's not about you.

    We live on 8 acres in NZ and we had a hog on the lawn at about 4 pm, we were a bit worried as apparently not supposed to be out at that time as usually means they are sick. Sure enough a few days later I catch a bad smell in one of the paddocks close by and there’s the hedgehog. I think it was an old adult. I buried it. Just a few days ago we see another one in the same place wondering around completely unfazed by us. It’s a little highway they use and the theory goes that because we live in the middle of nowhere they don’t have many predators so aren’t that worried by us. We respect them and leave them alone but they always make our day when we see them trotting around.

    • @CuddleBuddiesChannel

      What a wonderful connection with the hedgehogs on your beautiful 8-acre property in NZ! 🌿🦔 It's heartening to hear how you observe and respect these little visitors. Your consideration for their well-being and the little "highway" they use is truly commendable. 🛣️💕 Nature's presence, especially these unfazed hedgehogs, can indeed bring so much joy. Keep enjoying those precious moments, and thank you for sharing this delightful story with us! 🌈😊🦔

      @@CuddleBuddiesChannelSadly they are considered a pest in NZ as not native. They are quite cruel to some species here I have found. On our land everything is sacred, we even have wild turkeys wondering around with their young. Thanks for your lovely message.
