Hi Tom, having owned static vans before, double glazing and central heating are essential for our climate. Also get one with 2 bedrooms. They’re great fun, we absolutely loved ours, they literally do become your second home. Yes they depreciate quickly but you have totally unique circumstances. 1. You are not at the mercy of holiday parks who can raise site fees. 2. It doesn’t have to be replaced after 10-15 years because it’s ‘too old’ and 3. Why are you worrying about resale value when you have 110 acres? You don’t need the space back. It’ll make a brilliant site hut/guest accommodation/shelter/place for Alfie to muck about in with his mates etc. just leave it in situ when you’re finished with it. You don’t need to sell it as you’re in control of the land it’s on. Brilliant vlogs btw. Absolutely love them. Love Lydia’s vlogging too! ❣️
Just a heads up, if those cement corrugated roof sheeting panels are very old they might be the ones that were made with asbestos. If they are intact and not broken they should be fine and not an issue, but i saw some broken ones and those can expose you to asbestos. Mostly just a safety thing and you will probs switch out the roofing anyways, but just be careful when disposing of it and wear a face mask if they are the asbestos kind.
This definitely needs to be done, for safety too because I'm sure under the land somewhere will be power lines, he doesn't want to dig in the wrong place.
I design Caravans and the debonair you’re looking in is the manufacture I work for! If you need any work doing or updating, I can look at old drawings and get them sizes to be fitted perfect for you.
Im a truckdriver and i was driving back from carlisle to the midlands yesterday, going past manchester i had the sunset in my mirrors and it was cool to know you were looking at the same sunset thinking the same thing i was
Gotta admit, I really love Chris' energy. He seems so proud of you, and he seems genuinely interested in helping you, I'd love to see more of him, he's ace.
Hi Tom, i currently live in a static caravan (mobile home) with my partner and 2 kids, we have a 3 bedroom one, you clearly dont need that many rooms but there are a few things i recommend for the home we have been in ours in over a year now. 1. Get a winter package, better insulation, double glaze windows and central heating. Cheaper ones lack all of those and get could very fast and will be hard to heat. 2. We have gas central heating anc cooking, durning the summer a 47kg barrell of gas last us about 2 months, in the winter about a month due to the heat been on more. 3. Get a bigger living area over bigger bedroom(s) since its where you will be spending most of your time. 4. I actually built a decking around mine so that there is more living space as such.
After sorting out my gandads attic/storage room that has big dormer windows i 100% agree. picking up what you think is solid plastic for your hand to go straight through the side was surprising 🤣
@@alwaysberandom6470 Definitely, we used to store the lids outside when we needing extra space until we realised they'd been getting damaged. Now they only store them outside for much shorter periods of time and are covered with sheets to protect them.
We had a static for years and we built a big wooden deck on the front and side makes it a great place to bbq. Sadly static caravans prices do rapidly decrease but if you sell private people tend to get more money for them. Whatever happens it will be well worth the money because of the enjoyment you will get out of it😊
Tom thank you for always sharing your highs and lows with us! I’m grateful for how long you’ve kept me entertained or even help escape from reality for a bit. We all appreciate you and your family. Thank you
Tom I'm like 99% sure you need a concrete base for the static caravan. Because of the weight and if it rains it will just sink into the grass/dirty and they need balancing so they don't see-saw and you walk around it ( if you already know I apologise just wanted to make you aware ) p.s absolutely loving the vlogs 😊
Used to site static caravans in a previous job, usually just a thick layer of type one base and gravel is all you need. The caravans don’t weigh a lot (5-10 tonnes) and split between 4-6 jacking points with either slabs or breeze blocks under them you shouldn’t have any issues, unless you stick it in a swamp…would be funny to watch though!
@@adammoorby99 yeah they will be, would usually stack 3-4 under each jack and never had any issues, over 70% of caravans on the sites I’ve worked on have been done this way. Removed some older caravans that have been sited like that for over 20 years without shifting! They get chained and anchored to the ground as well to prevent movement, so as long as the base is prepped well there should never be any issues with it
I'm having the worst day and staying up all night to get my poor pup into the vet, so grateful for these vlogs to take my mind off the pain even for a little bit 💖
Alfie walking is adorable, watching him grow and develop is a highlight in these vlogs 😊.. caravans we’re amazing, absolutely good idea Lydia you can paint the kitchens and lay vinyl wood effect on the floor.. loads ideas on RUclips where people have done it.. and Tom you will never need to sell it as you can turn it into a kids play space,or gaming space, cinema room or burger/beer bar etc etc when you don’t need it as a home anymore. ..❤
so, the reason for the depreciation on the static caravans, is a lot of caravan sites (the ones where people rent them out) won`t allow caravans over a certain amount of years old, so people always trading up to newer ones when they hit that age threshold. Then theres so many older ones due to this, where nobody has the place to put them in most instances so lots of supply and little demand for the older stuff. That said, if you`ve got a baby, a building project and a caravan, thats prime Grand Designs right there haha!
Just got my new Syndicate Original Black & Blue Next Move shirt in the mail! I don't have an X account, but thought leaving a comment would suffice! Thank you Tom, Alice & Team!

i live in a caravan and i have my queen bed and my pc set up in here it amazing. a static caravan is right what you need just to chill out till its all done, you wouldnt wanna get rid of it
Hi Tom love the idea of the static caravan, one thing that might be good for thought though is that if you do chose your location for putting it I personally wouldn’t have it under trees. Even thought they are well built any tree falls or branches will distort them and be quite dangerous. Loving the content keep up the good work
Tom get a professional topographer ( don’t know the actual term) with a drone to take thousands of pictures of the land and make a map, then do the same in the future to see how much the land has changed, farmers usually do this to see their boundaries and plan grass feeding for the cows

Should totally get a woodburner installed in the static caravan, theres nothing quite like the feeling of having a fireplace roaring on your land in the middle of winter. Can also get a fire guard so little man doesnt touch the hot fire! (Ive got a little summer house in our field with a wood burner and its 10/10, also the one in the house is amazing)
