- That right! The Classic Duck Hunt from the NES is back and it's in a new 16-bit art style! This is all made possible by the Mesen NES emulator and the amazing sprite artist Pik who made most of the sprites seen in the trailer. In the near future I'll make an in-depth tutorial on how to install this awesome HD Pack but if you want to play it right now then keep reading!

I was unsuccessful at remastering the title screen where I would have loved to credit Pik for his awesome spites but if you think you could help remaster the title screen leave a comment down below! I'm also looking for pixel artists to help me work on the Clay Shooting portion of the game, again, if you're interested in helping out comment down below. If you're going to use this HD Pack in a video please credit GBAGuy007 and Pik along with stating that it is very much still in beta, thank you.
Hi dude, looks great!
I'm trying to test your HD pack. not sure what im doing wrong, but its not showing your version of the graphics.
I put the zip file in Mesen\HdPacks folder
I have "use HDNes HD Packs" enabled
I loaded duck hunt and selected "tools->install HD pack" and selected the zip file, it then said successfully installed and if i want to reset the game with the HD pack on?, i said "ok".
the game resets but still with the old graphics.
am i missing something?
thanks
Are you using a dev version of Mesen or the last stable build? One reason you may be having trouble is due to the pack rev level. If you need the latest stable build, check this out - github.com/mkwong98/Mesen/releases
@@NESGameFan yes! that totally did the trick :) thanks!!!!
@@intoshadows Happy to help :)
Nice job!
Definitely gonna try this one with my Sinden Lightgun!
Good to hear! It should act the same as the original but I'm still interested to see!
Oh that's super cool! I'm looking forward to trying it.
Thanks for the kind words, I hope you enjoy it!
If Duck Hunt was released for Super Nintendo:
Will defo be trying this, Very cool!
Nicely done - Tried it out and the aesthetic really works. For the title screen, do you need help with coding required for insertion or for art? I took a look at your hires.txt file and noticed that you already have coding worked out for background images during gameplay. So, I'm guessing the art portion?
I noticed that the title screen worked a little different so it would be a bit more difficult to do, but yes, my main barrier is that I have no art for the title screen. If you would like to contribute I would be very appreciative!
@@gbaguy0076 Hello - I added just a small amount of code for the title screen in the pack here: drive.google.com/file/d/1e0ydVHqNFc3g9nTGbM8WefiHdtW8awrT/view?usp=sharing. There are three .pngs in the pack: DHTitle1, DHTitle2, and DHTitle3 - One for each game. Don't judge the title screen choice - It's just a placeholder for now and would need to be changed :) You can update them to whatever you prefer. Let me know if this helps a little bit with the coding aspect.
@@NESGameFan That's... beautiful... but seriously, thanks this really does help, I attempted to do what you added but to no avail so I'm glad you were willing to help!
@@gbaguy0076 I'm glad it's helpful. Basically, it's just a picture image placed over the top of everything. For conditions, I had Mesen look for that orange line in the title screen plus each instance of the arrow pointing at the game you want to play. The "39" at the end of each DHTitle.png line indicates the picture should be on the very top layer. To go one layer down, you'd change it to 29, then 19, then 9, and so on. Keep up the good work! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
@@NESGameFan Will do! Is there a better way to reach you?
Looks amazing, thank you for doing it!
Do you have a website or a thread somewhere where we can follow progress?
Not yet, I didn't expect it to have much of a following if any at all but now that you mentioned it I'll get right on that!
A good starting point could be a post in the Romhacking forums. Barring that, maybe something on Itch.io?
@@Myako I may eventually make a website but for now I just created a discord server: discord.gg/AAQkaFTV
These texture packs are amazing. What a great idea. I wonder why it hasn't been thought of years ago
Looks great, good job. 👍
