    Before you sink your teeth into the review of the WD Black SN850X SSD, it is important to understand that this is not the same as the widely available and industry applauded SN850 SSD. On the face of it, the difference is simply the ‘X’ prefix - Is that really much of a difference? I think it would be pretty fair to say that when the PCIe 4 generation of SSDs hit the consumer market, the one that made the BIGGEST (and earliest) splash was the WD Black SN850. Originally released in Autumn 2020, although it wasn’t the first PCIe4 M.2 SSD, it WAS the first commercially available drive to hit 7,000MB/s (followed incredibly closely by Samsung’s 980 Pro). Now, 2020 was quite a while ago now (give or take a pandemic or two) and in that time a wide variety of top tier (and indeed mid-low tier) brands have expanded in the PCIe 4 SSD tier, challenging the WD Black SSD in terms of performance, durability and price. The 2020 released WD Black SN850, although still hot in the basket of buyers of PS5 storage and regularly on sale during Black Friday and the like, is no longer the groundbreaking drive that it once was. And THIS with where the WD Black SN850X comes in. Now, the SN850X is NOT designed to be a replacement to the SN850. In fact, in recent months, we saw Western Digital roll out the WD Black SN770, a DRAMless, more efficient and more affordable alternative. The SN850X is designed to complete the product family in the PCIe4 M.2 NVMe tier and whereas the SN850 gains notoriety and licencing with the Sony PS5, the WD Black SN850X has its sights squarely on the Premium PC Gamer and Premium Performance tier exclusively (content creators, professional streamers and eSports). But is the WD Black SN850X really that much different? Is this a cash grab or is this a legitimate answer by WD to challengers in the PCIe4 SSD tier? Let’s find out.

    Another Golden info for all: If you have a PC with m.2 slot, it is possible to do firmware updates on the ssd without delete or format sth. (socket do not have to support pcie4...it works with pcie3 aswell) Only once after firmware update it happens that i have to update the database after reinstalling into the Ps5. But no Data loss or reinstalling anything, or format again. Anyway i will not give you a guarantee, but it was working in my case three times.

    I have this ssd in the 4tb with the Sabrent heatsink, but the Sabrent heatsink did not come with thermal padding for the ssd. Just the one side where the heatsink. For the back side of the drive where the components are should I be worried about it, or should I be fine as is or order some thermal pads for the back side of the drive?

    Over Xmas both the WD 850 and 850x were going for the same price but on sale the x was about 15 dollars lower I think because people weren’t familiar with new version working with the ps5. Now today I look up the X and because it’s out of stock at Best Buy they dropped the price to 180.00 . Grabbing my receipt and get my money👍🏿

      I got a 4tb wd black sn850x one from Amazon at $375 around that time frame, Best Buy refused to price match it because it had a single different number in the sku area which they claimed made it an entirely different product from their $550 wd black sn850x ssd
      Hell the $49.99 DualSense christmas offer over at Best Buy was around $70 with interest, taxes, warranty included yet Target offered all of that at $59
      Avoid Best Buy whenever possible since they will always overcharge you in some way over other stores

      @OOOGLING Год назад

      @@bamban_garcia5562 That’s the game Best Buy plays with prices. Try to price match a TV. It could be the same tv but from the factory or distributor the model numbers will be slightly off for whatever retailers they ship them to. Thanks for the heads up on the target thing but all stores have their pluses and minuses it depends on what you want and need at the time. Me personally I don’t care for the Best Buy of today.

      @@OOOGLING I recently got a PlayStation 5 from my local walmart at around $570 with warranty plus taxes included Best Buy wanted $590 before any taxes or warranty were included for literally the same bundle

      I just went through all of this with Amazon. The description said it came with a heatsink. Even the box said it did. I have to buy a separate one now.

      @PCHMN I haven't had any heat issues. Just make sure you buy and install a heatsink for it if you get one, but that should be the case for any SSD you get.

    none of the current games are able to maximize the full potential of ssd. Getting a cheaper ssd will get the job done. And the difference in loading time is like 1 sec ...lol

    With my Corsair 2TB MP600 Pro XT it reached 6557MB/s on my Ps5. I also tried many ssd's. This one was the one with the best Performance. NOTE: The Heatsink do not fit in the digital with the stock one. My modified Metalcover is unique made for this awesome Stock Heatsink, so i can use the original one in my disc version without any problems

    this drive is not worth picking up if you want it for your PS5. Now they’re coming out with a 4TB & if you need more storage wait for that but as it stands the difference is not worth the extra cost.

    • @JzLyfe
      @JzLyfe Год назад +1

      There is a 200 dollar price difference between the 2tb and 4tb but according to other reviews it's basically the same as the other models with very little gain that you notice. Unless you game alot then sure go for 4tb if not 2tb is fine. Amazon right now has the 2tb for 219.00 with no heatsink.

      Currently on a 2TB SN850 & a USB P50 for ps4 titles which is also an NVMe so it’s just as fast as the internal just can’t install PS5 games. Currently running low on storage so I need a bigger drive also would be nice to have everything in one drive.
