Advise reading his book "French Children of the Holocaust". 1800 pages or so of French children apprehended largely by the French, put in French camps, then deported to Nazi concentration/death camps. Very, very few returned. Tells me all I need to know about French anti-Semitism. An eternal disgrace to France.

On our second day in Paris, while crossing from one attraction to next next, we stumbled into a small, mostly run down Jewish cemetary. None of the dates on the tombstones were any newer than 1939.

It is disgusting how the French police- NOT the SS- apprehended, Interred and deported to Auschwitz as many jews- at first refugee jews but later all French jews as well- as they could round up. They may have deserved our help in WW1 but it's a shame that we liberated France before defeating Germany.

Pétain not only refused to defend his homeland invaded on May 17, 1940, but he also betrayed the French government which appealed to him, having made the mistake of trusting him. From May 26, 1940 he will resume his disastrous defeatist attitude of 14-18 and will be in favor of laying down his arms and in favor of a dishonorable armistice against the advice of part of the Government.
by this attitude he will thus hand over the sovereignty of France to the Nazi invaders

For the average Parisian, German occupation was a difficult situation. Most people pretended to support Marshall Petain, while not actively collaborating with Vichy. Some - particularly Leftists - secretly helped Jews or the Resistance, but survival required discretion. ⚖️👎

De Gaulle was an egomaniac. His patriotism aside, it is curious how he chastised Pétain for signing the armistice. Almost as if he had something personal against Pétain. Never really attacked the germans, he only attacked Pétain. Civil war, the purge of 1944. @johnappleby405

@@manuelpanisse5991 Petain represented fascist tendencies that went far back in France and made surrender to the Nazis easy. Petain was a junior staff officer in the same French General Staff that irrationally persecuted Capt. Dreyfus for years. And the fascistic French Navy sabotaged DeGaulle's peace negotiations with Ho Chi Minh by shelling Haiphong in 1946 without orders and killing 7000 people. Finally you have the Pied Noirs and their terrorist campaign against French decolonization.
