As someone who played this as a young kid, it made me very critical of other games. But more importantly, it made me look at games as something more than a means to distract myself, I began to look at them as art. It's the reason I studied game design and creation, hoping to one day inspire a kid the same way I was by Retro Studios' Metroid Prime. He had a ps2 and even though I was stuck in one of the less interesting looking areas, the impact crater (it's still cool, just not as much as the other areas), he was in awe. He kept calling his dad over and his dad was trying to him they already have a ps2. 😂

Metroid Dread was one of the first Metroid game I actually played seriously and finished and absolutely got obsessed over. Prime did it again! So, I experienced Prime the first time as its remaster, but the way this game burrowed into my psyche and just made me think about it before sleep like no other game since like Dark Souls games ever had! Personally, only thing that I genuinely disliked was the respawning enemies at all times and those annoying encounters as a result. Which then made the exploration tedious when you are lost and trying to figure out stuff. But yeah, while that part of it remains archaic, it definitely is a masterpiece! So cannot wait for MP4 !

Gamecube was proof that Nintendo didn't "get it" and that Sony and Microsoft were going to dominate for the foreseeable future. Only the Wii put an end to that mentality.
The backtracking exists for a reason. It’s there to get you familiar with the newly acquired skill, the subtle hints in the map that suggest you can use that skill at that place, and maybe also get comfortable with enemies that were previously difficult or frustrating but can now be defeated with the use of the new skill (chozo ghosts for example). The pacing I feel is also greatly done because it never reaches to a point where you feel bored from the old skills before you acquire a new one.
I go back and forth when it comes to the back-tracking in this game...(!) On the one hand, It raises the feeling of reward when you find a new upgrade (AND get it to a save-room..ugh) On the other hand, it makes me swear like a sailor when I lose 1 hrs progress down a blind alley A masterpiece, nonetheless!
Well, I liked your video mate, awesome job. When I was a child I had the opportunity to play Metroid Prime (I was so hungry and eager to play it as I was so in love (keep being) with Super Metroid, I didn't have a Game Cube, so I used to go and play it in the arcade center (A place in Latin America where you play by Hr)) As soon as I saw the video about it being remastered, I when to the store and reserved it the next day (I wanted it in physical). I will go back in time to feel one more time those feeling.
Very nice intro! I think that the "first person shooter" controls is having the unintended effect of emphasizing the wrong mentality about this game, whereas the original gamecube controls promoted the moniker "first person adventure" more than this version. It is suppose to have a slower, more methodical pace. So many people call this a first person shooter now. And they just wont "get" the focus on scanning, investigation and exploring. They just run past everything.
That’s a good point! I tried to slow down and actually explore instead of running through it as fast as I can. I have a bad habit of going too fast through games. But I’m glad I actually took my time with this one. It was beautiful.
Your review makes me SOOO HAPPY! 😭 Welcome aboard! 😁 TBH Metroid Prime games hit harder when you investigate them- aka SCANNING. They don’t spoon feed you the story. It adds to the exploring and isolation. Everything just feels deserted and you have to find out why. So even tho I understand why you regret NOT playing it as a kid, it’s still a whole new experience as an adult who can comprehend the lore 😁
I'm a lifelong Metroid fan, But I never got to play Metroid Prime when it was new, because I didn't own a GameCube. Always wanted to play it, though. Then the remaster comes out for the Nintendo switch, and I play it for the first time. Everything they say is true. This game is indeed a masterpiece.
There's no need to feel bad about not playing metroid prime sooner, it just happen. I've waited 20 years before I've play my first Luigi's mansion game despite having some level of interest toward this franchise. Phendrana song track is one of the best song of all time in any video game. The first time I've arrived in this region I put down the controler and listened to the music. It's just that good
Haha! That bit in the crashed frigate is SOOO relatable... I was like Oooohhh, don't do it man, you're about to get trolled! Haha. (I kinda liked it to be fair).
I'm not sure why this video showed up In my feed, but I'm glad it did. Really enjoyed not only this video but your other ones as well. Also, I envy you since this was your first time experiencing this game. Wish I could wipe my memory of playing this game back in the day so I could get that feeling of the first experience back lol.
Thank you very much!! I’m glad I could entertain you. And I have that same feeling with a lot of people who haven’t played the games I adored. It’s a warm but sad feeling lol.
I never got to play it, either. Until now, that is. I just completed Metroid Prime Remastered a few hours ago now and achieved absolute completion. 2D Metroid is still better I can't wait for the next remastered Primes! I'm glad I get to experience the game first thru a remaster
I tried playing Metroid Prime multiple times throughout the years but couldn't stand the 1 stick control scheme. I'm actually really glad I waited for the remaster because I had an absolute blast and wasn't taken out of the experience by the controls.
The backtracking wouldn't be as bad if not for the underwater part before the gravity suit. The second time I played the game I never went down there at all without it.
That was definitely what made me hate the backtracking for a little bit. Moving through that water so very slowly back and forth sucked. At least I’ll know for when I play it again. Maybe I won’t mind the backtracking as much the second time around!
As a og hardcore fan of Metriod. (NES) This is how you upgrade a game. Prime on the gamecube already looked great. But to move Metroid in 3d was risky but this fucking worked. Music was oooooooooooh so good. Metroid just hold a special place in my gaming heart. Introduction is everything and atmosphere and this game gives you that and more.
I didn't have good experiences with the Prime series so far, so I decided to buy the physical copy of the game "so I can sell it if I don't like it." I'm not selling anything, this game will stay with me until the day I die.
I never played any Metroid game despite owning Fusion on the GBA as a kid. Prime Remastered is my very first one and it did not disappoint. I also did the same mistake you did lol I pushed too deep into the crashed frigate despite the game hinting about the gravity anomaly.
7:43 This is definitely one of my problems with the game, though. That is the biggest *_beginner's trap_* in this game, but subsequent playthroughs make this a non-issue, because now you know what you're doing.
One of us! One of us! I see you have the GBA switch expansion pack collection. You should play Metroid Fusion on that next, it's in the 2d Metroid series and it's pretty damn good. It's also more story driven, if you think that would be cool. If the more story driven nature is a turn off, then you might want to try out Super Metroid on NSO instead. It's isolation is matched by none other in the series besides Prime. It does have kinda floaty controls, though.
I saw Fusion! I want to play it pretty badly. It’s just finding the time to right now is hard. But I’ve made it a goal to eventually play it! Fusion definitely looks more like my vibe. It also looks like a beautiful game!
if you replay the game i really want you to try pointer controls, it really feels like a new experience. at least it was to me and really immerses you once you get the hang of it!~
I truly love pointer controls in the Prime games but having standard dual-stick controllers in Prime Remastered really made me realize that the game may be a better experience, especially for newcomers, with a standard control scheme.
Loved your video, I actually finished this game yesterday, the backtracking is definitely the biggest complaint, it's to bad they didn't add any fast travel options, cause that would have solved the issue. let's hope the other games get remastered as well, especially the second one.
@@kcdeku7154 Did you get the other endings btw, where samus takes off her helmet and the final extra scene that gives you an idea about the second game ?
Gamecube was so ahead of its time even next to the Xbox. Metroid Prime is still ahead of the genre in so many ways! If you had told me this was a ps4 game I would believe you
I usually don't buy remastered games that barely offer anything new except for better graphics and small quality of life improvements. After all, I already played them. Why would I need to spend money to buy something that's not new? But I made an exeption for Metroid Prime Remastered. It is just that good that I was willing to pay money, just to relieve that masterpiece again (after having sold my Gamecube years ago).
Just going to warn you ahead of time, temper your expectations for the sequels. I personally believe 2 to be the superior game, but it doesn't always do it for people. And 3, well... 3's definitely a good game, but it's my least played of the trilogy for a reason. Among other things, I just feel the world and upgrades aren't as carefully thought out as the other two. Definitely worth experiencing at least once, though. Also, if you don't intend to 100% Prime 1, I suggest looking up the best ending. It has something in it that will give some added context to 2.
Be one of my most top rated games of all time. The game is simply different, daring and purposeful. Backtracking's a pain in the ass, but it forces you to pay attention to where you're going (no fast travel). There's no Quicksave, but that forces you to take ur combat and tread more seriously, unlike modern games whereby we re-try every fight scene 80 times only to repeat at the next encounter. Echoes i thought was even cooler, much more meat to drudge through, IF u can tolerate the even more gigantic, desolate and monochrome map environments.
Can't wait to hear your opinion on Prime 2. Because despite people calling Prime 1 "the best game" there is a big discussion on whether Prime 2 or Prime 1 is better. Personally, Prime 2 did a better a game even thought they toned out the WIDE exploration and concentrate on subareas to explore. This makes the game a lot more focuses, maps a lot more intricate but faster to explore and backtracking more tolerable (except for two parts). Personally, I prefer Prime 2.
i skipped prime 2 because the reviews were pretty mixed when it released and I was still afraid of prime. i did get prime 3 when it released but i never played it. what do you think of all the prime games? best to worst?
To be fair this is a different experience from the original. I loved the original but always hated the controls. I remember specifically thinking at the time that it would be one of the greatest games if the controls were dual analog like Halo. Here we are damn near 20 years later with a beautiful new coat of paint and what I believe is the best possible control set up. With this one we all win.
As soon as you said you hadn't played it but other people were saying its the best game ever in my head I was like "yep he's gonna say it's amazing and he wishes he played it sooner" lol. I was lucky enough to play this game growing up, Metroid is my favorite game series of all time 🙏 you should also try the 2d games, I think you love Metroid dread on switch as well if you've never played it.
Unfortunately, I have not played any other Metroid game.. but I do want to try the 2D ones out! I’m actually very interested in trying Fusion. That looks like an awesome game!
@@kcdeku7154 I’d say go for it! It’s actually the second most recent game in the timeline, too! (Dread is the most recent). Plus, Dread itself is worth playing as well.
Man prime is a great game don't get me wrong. I think prime 2 is an even better game. From progression, combat, puzzles, the story is about equal. Though the areas don't look as strong. They are both awesome tho. Note: I play thru the whole trilogy once a year. Good video.
I haven’t! I want too when I have a little more time. I beat skyward sword not too long ago to prepare for tears of the kingdom and now I’m working on a new video. I hope I can get to it after tears 😂
@@kcdeku7154 it’s so good. Definitely a little different from the first person perspective in prime though because it’s back to it’s 2D roots. I’m assuming this Prime is your first Metroid game 😅
If you loved metroid prime, I cant wait for you to play metroid prime 2, it is definitely the best prime game and my favorite game of all time. Also improves on your one complaint, the backtracking.
Idk if you would like metroid dread because the music is a bit more bland. But apart from that it's awesome. The gameplay is quick and precise, it's definelty more difficult than prime but not impossible once you learn the patterns. The world design and story are all pretty good. The backtracking is compensated by many ways of travelling the world and markers/highlited rooms were secrets can be found. If you like Fusion, then you might like Dread too. Especially as a sequel to it!
You shouldn't be angry because the reality is you probably wouldn't have appreciated this game as much when you were a kid. It sounds like you're around the same age as me and I actually did get Metroid Prime as a gift when it came out and I enjoyed playing it but it was way too hard and I eventually gave up on it for that reason. I find that I'm enjoying the Metroid series much more as an adult where the difficulty of the series is more my speed. I beat Samus Returns on the 3DS and now I want to go back and play Metroid Prime again.
Also, you will definitely be disappointed in me, because while I knew there were good games on the GameCube, I could not stand the GameCube controller for the life of me.
@KC Deku Nothing wrong with Dark Souls but idk why they're recommending it here.. Metroid Prime shares basically nothing with anything From Software has made; they are wildly different games from Metroid-anything.
@@kcdeku7154 I would do Demon Souls, first. It's the original and has none of the "this game is hard" marketing hype that ruined later games. (literally the devs believed the hype and fell off a cliff). The original game is what created the reputation for being hard, without any of the self-back-patting.
Back in the day playing with the hints turned on was considered a cop out and generally only for casuals, which I guess is what most modern gamers really are, unskilled, impatient whining weasels who need their hand held every step of the way, who would get nowhere but for checkpoint auto saves! These people have destroyed gaming!
Having a GameCube and not playing Metroid Prime is like Mc Donalds Nuggets without BBQ or Sweet&Sour sauce.
As someone who played this as a young kid, it made me very critical of other games.
Welcome to the party! Have you tired Metroid Dread for the Switch?
I haven’t yet! I’m planning to. It’s in my backlog 😂
Great video! Subbing in hopes you get around to Super Metroid eventually!
I can't wait to try Prime 2 out! I really do hope it comes to switch so that I can play it. If it doesn't, I'll probably just get it for my GameCube.
i skipped prime 2 because the reviews were pretty mixed when it released and I was still afraid of prime. i did get prime 3 when it released but i never played it.
what do you think of all the prime games? best to worst?
Play Super Metroid if you haven't yet. Honestly all the mainline 2d metroids and prime games are great.
@@TrinityCore60 what's the storyline order?
@@Icemario87 I think it’s Zero Mission, the Prime trilogy, Samus Returns, Super Metroid, Other M, Fusion, and Dread.
Man prime is a great game don't get me wrong. I think prime 2 is an even better game. From progression, combat, puzzles, the story is about equal. Though the areas don't look as strong. They are both awesome tho. Note: I play thru the whole trilogy once a year. Good video.
Thank you! I’m very excited to play the other Prime games. I hope they come to switch but I will definitely try them out!
You’re in luck. It’s on the Switch now.
did you check out metroid dread yet?
@@delirium1326 it is unfortunately lol
Thank you! I definitely want to try Dread and Fusion out! They look incredible.
Ta bien chidori
Yes, The backtracking in this game is stupid, they did a much better work in prime 2.
Yeah it's blasphemous you having a GameCube but NOT this game.
Also, you will definitely be disappointed in me, because while I knew there were good games on the GameCube, I could not stand the GameCube controller for the life of me.
Sounds like you need to play more Metrtoidvanis. Maybe Dark Souls.
I was thinking of trying the Dark Souls series out eventually! They seem like fun games.
These people have destroyed gaming!
this is not 10/10 11 out of 11
So that means you haven’t played super Metroid, fusion, samus returns or dread? Amateur!!!
I have not.. I am ashamed..
I understand when people complain about the backtracking. I also feel similar when I'm playing a 2D game and can't move on Z axis.

If majora's mask is your favorite, then you'll probably like prime 2 alot. It's art style reminded me of majora.

I cannot wait to play prime 2!! Hopefully it releases soon. If not I’ll play it wherever!
