Jesus Christ, he wasn't lying. I checked out a video of the final boss fight, and it is literally Ninja Cyborg Scooby-Doo gang vs. Republican Hulk Hogan. I couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculous and over-the-top the whole thing was.

Yeah, it's kind of out of place, I mean MGS series have always had such serious villains like a gay russian army man who shoots lighting bolts and president who wears dr octopus suit, oh never mind.
It's supposed to be over the top and stupid. When Raiden asks armstrong why he is so tough, he literally says; "nanomachines, son" and it's freaking AWESOME. Dude, you should really play the gsme.
he tear of the arm of a giant robot, use it as a sword, you get kicked like a fucking football (supported by soundeffects and all) the boss throws tanks at you, and you have the epic final save by scooby. it's the cheesiest most ridiculous thing imaginable, but this is a game where you lift a giant mech and/or cut it in half like nothing as your first boss - it's great

People actually take Yahtzee seriously?
I feel like if Yahtzee made this review nowadays, he'd have very different feelings on it, especially given his new love of Yakuza having opened his eyes to that sort of Japanese way of thinking that's hard to digest unless you've had experience with it.

You can't tell me the game is first making fun of itself during the Senator fight when THE ENTIRE GAME is just a parody of the MGS series, for example, the Monsoon fight. Here's a guy you've only just met and he's alright giving you a speech on concepts you have no idea how they work into the story then you kill him not knowing anything more than before and there are tons of earlier examples. Ah, so this is the Zero Punctuation video that references Biker Mice From Mars! For a long time, I thought people had forgotten about that show.
He wasn't asking for it to be made easier, just explained more clearly. He otherwise respects that they implemented a feature that's simple to use but takes actual skill to use properly.
Zero Punctuation is like masochistic comedy. One the one hand, he's almost certain to trash something YOU like at one point or another (and when he does, it stings with precision); on the other hand, he's still consistently hilarious (and correct) throughout his dismantling of your franchise of preference.
Also, the more time you spend watching these videos, the more you end you sounding like him.

I think you missed my point. Akira Yamaoka's music fits Silent hill and it's good enough to listen to on its own. By the way, Akira Yamaoka did music for all genres of games before Silent Hill.

Man, everytime I watch his videos I find myself agreeing with every point he makes and at the same time when he goes for a game I thought was half-way decent he still manages to make me burst into tears with laughter with his final joke. Hats off to you Yahtzee!

What is with the Japanese game industry being totally unable to keep even a semi consistent tone, besides diabetes-level cutesy?
Or so horrifying or scarring that it makes your balls roll up into you.
Is it so wrong that an over the top action game has serious and funny moments or are americans only able to digest Nolan-esque darkness always with all jokes kept at a safe "not even funny, but passable" level of humor in order to not break the serious. I don't get yahtzees obsession with consistent tone, it would be one thing if you did not think it was funny another to write it off entirely because it must be comedy or drama with no inbetween ever.
Thanatos388 The problem is that the lighthearted moments almost never are used to highlight the darker ones or vice versa. There's a way to do serious mixed with funny, but a middle aged politician bashing around a ninja pretty boy while arguing politics can only go on for so long before it strays into "lol so randum ^_^" territory.
***** Ummmm, Rising is a comedy. If you don't find it funny thats fine but I was more referring to japanese games and media in general. But seriously every game and every boss was comedic in animation and dialogue. The senator was all of that to the extreme. Even his music is set at maximum and does not build up as the other boss songs did.

The Final Boss was fucking Hilarious as it seemed to be a satire of America.
I found the soundtrack epic.
The Fox Blade was quite cool as you could sprint while randomly swinging the blade, then turn back and just see a couple of bisected Bodies.

Actually i enjoyed the music during the bossfights, not all of them mind you but they fit the pace of the game at that time. The stealth mechanics are non existant (which there shouldnt be any stealth in this game at all) and the combat is fun :3 i give it an 8/10 surprisingly enjoyable
I just realized that the last boss stole something from fullmetal alchemist he stole Greed's ultimate shield his skin even turns black when it's used.

I'd start getting really frustrated about being stun locked by robots spamming missiles at me and the silly ass cut scenes - and just as I feel like its getting too much for me i'd find myself throwing a robot dinosaur in the air and chopping it in half while there's a JRock song in the background screaming about the will to survive and my butt cheeks would start to violently tingle with excitement.
Its noise.

Hideo Kojima didn't write Revengeance. He only produced it and oversaw the project from what I remember.

Cat Knight He created Metal Gear. That’s about the extent of his involvement of Revengeance, outside of suggesting to Konami that Platinum save the game.
He did write the core plot, but P* modified it to make the gameplay more fun.

This game has aged like fine wine. There just aren't many games now that are made purely for fun. Everything is over the top and it's great. And also the main villian has sadly become less of a caricature over time...
10/10 would vote for Senator Armstrong in real life.
I legit believe that if Armstrong ran for President in the real world he'd be voted in by electoral despite hogging everyone's attention and do his best to seem like he's doing good work but in reality he'd drag America through the mud even more.

I haven't even played any of mgs games and I'm largely familiar with "REVENGEANCE", mostly because Rules of Nature just happens to be the most iconic game ost since the DRAGONBORN. Oh there's like a bunch of memes about it, especially 2 years ago, it was fucking everywhere.

Edward Bottle he has said time and time again, that he dont normally praise a game, because people dont want him to, so he is overcritical of most games in this reviews, even when he doesnt actually think that... i belive this and the uncharted series are good examples of that...

+Edward Bottle I loved the game, and he's right about everything. However, it has been noted thoroughly that this game wouldn't have had a leg to stand on if the team from Bayonetta didn't jump onboard for the combat system. Kojima's got respect, and he's got pull so no he isn't quite popping out $5 bin trash just yet. Still pissed about MGS5 though. That wasn't his fault, so I can't be mad at Kojima for that. What I can be mad about is keeping the OG voice actor for Snake in Japan while our American versions were shorted 1 beloved Hayter in exchange for the Young Guns' Sam Fischer: Keifer Sutherland. Shamefur dispray!
The final boss is the best boss fight i experienced in years, hes big, has multible forms and is actually challenging!

Im sorry but, while the lyrics ARE kinda cringy, the beats themselves are actually amazing
Fun fact: The lyrics actually tell the story of each character you fight, or elaborates on them! Mistral felt like an outcast in a foreign land but believes only the battlefield is her home, Monsoon was a deeply broken nihilistic man who's theme describes a gentle rain trying to wash a man's suffering away, only to turn into a violent storm when the gentle rainfall doesn't work. Sundowner's theme shows that he is somewhat of an environmentalist who believes returning to warfare is the best way for humanity to return to their inner nature. He also laments the overuse of the earth's resources. Sam's theme describes that he's lost his reason for fighting, and only fights because that's how he feels he NEEDS to live, and the fight with Armstrong is actually sung from Raiden's perspective, and explains that it's two men who are fighting for the same ideals, but disagree on the means to get there. Only one of them can survive to carry out their plan. Very interesting stuff!

@@thegirthquake8574 The last song isn't from Raiden's perspective, he completely blames Armstrong for what's happened and it's important that he never actually sees himself as the same as the guys he's fighting because it's what lets him still play the role of a hero to kids like Sunny. Armstrong is the one who believes that all this bloodshed will give birth to a stronger society and he's the one who acknowledges Raiden as a kindred spirit because his disregard of the law and the lives of everyone in his way in order to do what he thought was right is exactly what Armstrong was hoping to build.

The boss at the end of MGR was the highlight of the whole game! It was like a punchline, all those serious bosses with long droning speeches and creative designs, to be topped by a muscle man in a suit!
The final boss is a lot more threatening when he steps out of the tank, then even more threatening when he takes his shirt off.

Probably because MGR's gameplay was so perfectly in the middle there wasn't a lot to mention. He touched on the Parry, cutting fools, and the shit stealth so there's not a lot to talk about beyond that.
+Commander Convoy Yahtzee is odd: sometimes he rips 100 new asses on half decent games while other times he only rips half an ass from horrible games (see his Walking dead survival instincts).
Crazy Jay you make a good point aside from the parry and stealth it is a standard platinum made game.

***** Well I'm surprised that it's even on Yahtzee's list. It's a great game but certainly doesn't deserve number 1 at least in my opinion. But then again, he also find The Last of Us and Tomb Raider pretty good even though it was true for The Last of Us, it wasn't so much for Tomb Raider (IMO)

***** I haven't bothered with the last Saints Row, however, Assassins Creed 4 was more fun then this game, They could have dropped the assassin aspect of it if they wanted to, but I'm sorry, being a pirate was fun as shit, I was not sure about black flag, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. Bioshock infinite was better than this crap by a long shot, a little repetitive maybe (Rising could get an award for repetition), but the pacing and the awesome environment and setting makes up for it. besides the fact that at least 2 out of 3 of the games you chose are better then this crap, all 3 were completely different genres lol, thats like if I were to start talking about crappy Super Mario world is because I can't shoot stuff like in Doom.
***** Ahh but neither are yours friend, and I'm sorry but it is a FACT that what we got in rising was a leftover concept that was pushed off to Platinum, that considered, it could have been WAY Worse, but overall it is a disappointment, and all I can see when I play it is wasted potential with a bunch of pointless flair pasted all over the place, fun for a minute but I had to push myself through the majority of the game to even give it a decent chance.

Eh...it was annoying. I really liked the atmospheric music in some of the cutscenes, but I ended up playing the game on mute whenever there were vocals to it.
The parry mechanic is simple yet challenging. The only difficult part is figuring out which attacks hit you because they're unparryable and which ones hit you because you suck at parrying.
Also, the end of the boss fight against the lady with multiple robot arms is surreal. I sliced her into about 18 million pieces, then that pile of pieces somehow talked sadly on the radio for five minutes to her partner. Her conversation would have been touching if i could have stopped laughing.
You can parry red, you run from yellow, simple as that
Now, this isn't official, but my theory is that almost all cybernetics have a funtion that if the person is mortally wounded, it does everything in it's power to protect the brain
In the opening cutscene we see a soldier get cut down in first person and a quick thing shows some brain related mechanism being activated, so presumably either their conciousness is uploaded to a server or their brain lives for a few minutes until it's rescued or something.
This also why Sam doesn't get that final radio message, because he has no cybernetics and therefore actually just dies when killed (I know what I said), so despite being decapitated, they can live on for a bit. Furthermore how else would Monsoon work, since he can detach his head at will, at least for some time.
That might also be the reason for the rematch against the "AI" Mistral and Monsoon, who's damaged brains or recovered conciousness is stuck into a new fully robotic body to stop Raiden
@@Leffrey It actually is mentioned in the game, as long as the brain is supplied with oxygen, cyborg can pretty much survive anything, including decapitations. It's basically a brain in a shell with emergency oxygen supply, so they can live even for up to hours as just brains. The twins at the start (called Gemini twins, because of course) of the game survive like this.
Now this doesn't make as much sense when you can chop even their head into several pieces, but eh, gameplay vs lore.

The final boss of this game was craziest, most hilarious curveball I think I've ever seen in a game. I honestly laughed through the whole damn thing.

I love Yahtzee but sometimes I feel like he screws himself over in his reviews. He skips all of the dialogue and then wonders why Sam isn't the final boss?
To be fair the sections where you stroll leisurely along and talk on cyborg skype with your team are really boring, especially when they seem to be holding you back from just running forward and slicing up some more things.
Hmmmm I don't think the Sam portions are boring, it was pretty cool to see how Sam sort of plays with Raiden.
Hey is made a ninja like character to line up with Grey Fox's story. They were both child soldiers, both became Ninja-esqe characters and both were friends with Solid Snake
Yahtzee hasn't been paying his dues to daddy platinum i see, the way i describe this game is "the best sound track money can buy, it also happens to come with a game, and that game also happens to be one of the best I've ever played"
Ok, the robot dog was actually a pretty cool character. It had a bit of an existential crisis, with it being a self aware AI, and the way it interacted and reacted to certain things was interesting.

Azraelseraphim I just beat the game and I completely forgot that you could slide. I remember doing it in the tutorial and then I literally did not slide once for the rest of the game. I just forgot it was a thing....

I have an irrational love for this game, and it's largely due to the OST, Zandatsu mechanic, and over the top... shounen-ness of the boss fights and voice acting. How could you not love music that's basically Celldweller mixed with Sonic Adventure 2?
Why is it that almost every reviewer complains about the parry being "hard to understand"? It has a really large success window and it's easily spammable. Compared to something like the royal guard from dmc, this is so much easier.

The music is freaken awesome in this game. It is some of the best video game music I have ever heard and that has got me pumped to fight a boss. But that's my opinion.

While I agree with the story being quite inconsistent at times, I completely disagree with his opinion about the music. I know not everybody enjoys the same kind of music, but even if one doesn't like the music in Revengeance, he at least has to admit that it fits the over-the-top action of the game, especially of the boss fights, very well.

I did it, I found it. Been watching a bunch of these videos trying to find where Yahtzee and I have a different opinion on something and it's here. When I fought the final boss after double digit tries that I couldn't even hazard a guess on the real number, I was still jamming to it thinking it might be the best song ever lol

this game for instance, was in his top 5 best games of the year(that year i meant).
there are alot of other reviews that, he make it seems like he hated the game, but in actuality, he really enjoys it, for example, he has bashed every single uncharted game, and every time it shows up he bashed is, but, he has said, in other reviews that, the gameplay is really good...

Exactly. The only real criticism other than the last boss was how the game does a poor job explaining how to parry (as well as dodging and etc).

It made top 5 because the game was more fun than the other ones that were competing for the spot. And he even says in this video that the combat is fun. His issues were with the characters and the boss music. The stealth is boring in a game like this, whose combat is fantastic. Why stealth it when the other option is fun?

I fucking loved it, honestly. The bosses are some of the best I've ever seen, and it's really nicely challenging. It was fun as hell, completely over the top, and had a great soundtrack.

I found the bosses pompous at best, the difficulty was something I piddled on, not challenging at all ( but I'm the guy who grinds through They Bleed Pixels and most rogue-likes so hey, higher standards ), the soundtrack was mediocre on a good day and I feel like being over the top just doesn't hold enough water to sustain the game itself. #opinions
