@@apsamplifier first and foremost, thanks for your content guys. Your time is valued and appreciated. Getting down to it, I totally agree on one hand, in regards to rarity collection 2. Though adversely, or unbiased rather, as someone whom started yugioh when yugioh started and dropped off with the introduction of links, and now only plays master duel from time to time.. it was certainly pretty hype to see soo many higher level “staples” in one place despite them being ridiculously marked up for no reason. That said, as a magic player, we have to compare the rarity collection 2 sitting on the shelf unopened to sets in magic like those in the lorwyn block of magic which happened in a recession. With soo much product unopened, the consistent appreciation of value for those cards only continue to rise not even considering that the playability of aforementioned cards are high in terms of playable cards vs. total card pool of that block… soo maybe that might happened here as well and Konami can certainly only benefit from beginning the price point at 9.99 lol. About the lost arts, from what I've read, since they are given away as a bonus for buying sealed product, they are not technically selling you the card, which is the caveat for having lost art. Konami aren't allowed to sell cards uncensored because the art is not approved for its age rating. I don't know how true that is, but it makes the most sense to me.
RA02 feels like a trap. RA01 was under ordered due to loss of faith in yugioh selling, but ended up over performing. So Konami took advantage of that. This is the same type of bull as rarity bumping cards that see success in the ocg. The tcg is dirty af
I know I’m skipping RA02. Infinite Forbidden seems like a much more valuable set. I just bought Crossout, Apo, and Accesscode after the dip, and I’m good. That said, I do try to buy the singles from verified card shops so that it’s still helping the community to some extent
Literally no reason for Guiding Quem to remain a $150 AUD card. Branded even with Branded Fusion at full power was no match for Snake Eye & Snake Eye Fire King, so Guiding Quem in that sense within a pure build is essentially a must have. You can get away with not playing her in a non pure build, but to maximize the deck’s power, she is arguably in the top 3-4 most valuable card of the deck. Heck, to not even have Cartesia reprinted in Rarity Collection 2 at the bare minimum is insane to me.
Guiding Quem is not a 150 AUD card. It’s not even a 100 AUD card. Heck if someone is charging you 75 AUD they are still ripping you off. Come now at least be honest in your criticism.
I'm satisfied enough with the cards in RA02. I think Konami has a difficult task in making a product like this for 3 big groups of people; current players, retro format players, and card collectors. Personally I fall in the retro format/collector group. The problem I have with it is the price model change. I really enjoyed grabbing 4 or 5 packs of RA01 at Target when I was shopping. For $20-25 that felt like good value. Now 2 packs for the same price, even with the increased cards per pack seems like a bummer. I'm also worried about local shops woth this. I go to a local toy/collectibles shop that has some tcg products. They don't really know what is going on with yugioh. The owner just got lucky that he actually ordered RA01 and it was a huge hit and he sold out in like a week. I'm worried that he may have ordered a lot more of RA02 with the hopes it was as popular and he's going to be stuck with it.
You're precisely where I am with the product. It's not amazing, but it's fine. Some nice reprints, many rarities that didn't exist before, and it at least satisfies each group to some degree. But the price change is very concerning both in relative terms ($1.11 per card vs previously $1.00 per card) and absolute terms ($10 per pack is just a hard sell no matter what it is). I fear how much of this will sit on small game store shelves, burning them for just preordering what they had good reason to believe would be a stellar sequel product.

Take the price change out and I think this product could still have been one of the best selling products of the year. That being said I'm still looking forward to getting some nice rarities for edison and my terrible anime decks
Hey guys! (I don't know how to leave a review on RUclips but 5 stars - for sure) I played yu-gi-oh growing up and magic for years too. After about 10 years, I've been getting back into yu-gi-oh this year and while it is a lot to pick up at first, the Pod Of Greed has given me a lot of valuable insight, kept me informed on the state of the game, and something said always at least gets me to crack a smile. Thanks for what you do for the community. I have seen some discussion as to a casual yu-gi-oh format and as someone who recently had to relearn the game, I think that would be a great thing. I had the notion of imposing a 3-summon per turn limit on the entire game. It may also allow a lot of underperforming archtypes to see more play. I haven't had the opportunity to test this but I'd definitely watch gameplay or a podcast about it. Either way, thanks! Keep up the great videos 🔥
Excellent theory for a yugioh format the only down side is people will find a new meta where after summon 3 (going first) they are going to still attempt the same end game we have now, set up a 3 monster board that has the most reactivity and negates as possible, a great example is Horus cards, that start off on one card and can summon 3 beefy, effective, monsters, just top of my head thought but just imagine breaking that board with only 3 summons of your own 🥶, most archetypes do not land on big big boards after 3 summons, but Horus would be top tier in this theoretical rule set

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're saying that the deck puts that kind of board together off of 3 summons in one turn? So, 1 normal and 2 specials? If so, DAMN. Lol
I tried getting back into Yu-Gi-Oh for a bit but the game just feels so toxic and oppressive that I just couldn't go the distance with it. I uninstalled Master Duel but I still got my cards to play casually with some friends. Konami sort of rebooted Yu-Gi-Oh with Rush Duel, a new game with new rules and for some reason they made summoning unlimited rather than what you stated, which I 100% agree with, 3 summons (1 normal, 2 special). I feel like it just goes to show how disconnected they are to what made the game approachable to begin with.
I'm glad I have taken the time to listen to a bunch of people's opinions on Rarity Collection 2. I will probably be skipping it and looking towards Battles of Legend and the next sets of tins. Having a very strict budget, listening to videos like this are incredibly helpful. It helps me plan what to buy and what to save up some money for. Looking at you chaos angel tin. Speaking of, who else here misses the days when tins weren't random promo cards? When you could look at the lid of the tin and know what you're getting?
As someone that is max rarity in Digimon for a few of my decks. I think the main thing is having fun with the deck at locals and the social interactions with it. I started digimon last November and I have had 2 decks that I have been on an adventure with which was D-Brigade and Gracenovamon and those decks have led me to talking to alot of people in the store. I decided to max rarity them because I take pride in using them no matter the circumstances.
Sanrio is actually really relevant and popular still amongst kids. They have merch at places like Target, Hot Topic, Box Lunch, 5 below. All my kid cousins know about them and like the property.
Reprinting all the visas planets field spells but none of the cards that go with them, fenrir, visas, riumhardt, reinohardt, etc., is very weird to me... glad we got the new MST and Twin twisters tho (:
About lost arts; it's about the option to me. For example, I love all the uncensored Lightsworns and edge imps, but I prefer the censored Harpies because the "color coding" is fun. It's just a promtion to help support LGS's, like FNM promos, etc. It helps encourage the locals regulars to buy SOME product. As for the age discussion, dropping $30 at once is kind of a lot for a kid, until they've at least got a part time job. That's a COMMITMENT, it means they saved up some, ya know? I imagine the vast majority of Lost arts end up in the hands of adult players.
Rarity Collection, then Casual Collection 2. Konami isnt targeting the demographics that RA01 was. As someone who hasnt played in a while and wants cards like Souls and the other DM cards I like the set. But I doubt many players are hyped about RA02 after the set list was released. I think not reprinting Trident Dragion until later is honestly due to the fact that they felt they needed to sell Tempai as a budget deck. This allows Store owners to at least get that one bulk card sold for $100, massive profit for those who dont need it. I also think Legacy of Destruction was also oddly focused on making casuals buy more product instead of the competitive hardcore player. Making Yugi cards high rarity instead of Tempai.
Im surprised during the Square Enix segment you guys didnt mention a big problem theyre having is they make JRPGs but just dont have much presence in Japan right now, the country that obviously likes JRPGs the most. The PS5 in general is doing a lot worse in Japan compared to the PS4.
Crossout Designator has had two mega tin printings in fact, the 2021 and 2022 tins (September 2022). So this reprint is the first reprint in nearly two years and its first non-tin printing

It’s a really bittersweet feeling to see so much hate in Rartiy 2 because I run DM and Blue Eyes decks for fun on top of my competitive Branded deck. So the reprints for blue eyes like Bingo and Souls is peak for me. I do need more Drolls, I do need some Twin Twisters, I know most people don’t like the set because of this reason but this set is exactly what I need..sure, maybe some branded cards would be fine but the reprints in the tins already happened. Granguignol would have been a solid reprint but I’m going to buy rarity because my DM and BEYD need those reprints. Alternative and Bingo Machine have been $20 for a minute. I need more copies and I spend too much on my branded decks to fork over the extra money for my secondary decks.
I fall in a similar camp as Alec on deck building. I'm currently putting together a Blackwing deck for Edison and am going the best bargain option. Whatever the best looking version that isn't way more expensive than another option. Usually that means Ultras, but I'm actually a big fan of the premium golds from 2014-16. I have a question I would love to hear you guys discuss on the podcast because i need some help. I’m opening a trading card and retro video game shop in a small little town in west virginia and i’m trying to figure out how to engage with the people. I ran a yugioh club at the elementary school my mom worked at and I had about 15 kids coming every week so i know there’s interest. I’m thinking about doing a daily after school club as well as tournaments and such but what do you guys think i could do to entice people?
Gamestop only taking graded cards is because you can't expect regular employees to spot fakes or understand card conditions and lessens the change of damage or loss of value between any transaction
I like some ultimate rates but I'll go for ultra rare or super rare. I'll deal with secret but I like a nice clear picture. Matching rarity and printings is what I'll go for after the deck is fully built. Gold rares take priority of being replaced.
I think the gaming hardware developers raced toward tech advantage when good exclusives and/or online community are really what sold the consoles (not a marginal tech advantage). Nintendo is proof of this premise (you can sell the new Zelda or Smash on a potato of a console and still profit). If Xbox and PlayStation scaled back expectations to 360/PS3 graphics, I think the community would push back for a while, but a new generation would embrace and accept that as a standard. If you look at the game catalog for Xbox 360, it is insane compared to the Xbox One or Series X, partly due to the prolonged development issues Alec and Paul are talking about for next gen consoles. That expansive catalog likely reflects a development cycle time-consumer enjoyment-profit optimum for consumers and business
Exactly. If you went back and played Black Flag on the PS3 and 360 it still looks really good. IDK why we couldnt have stuck with games at that graphical level. They made those games to fit on DL DVDS with only hold 8gb of Data, why are PC games so big? When you can make them look good and have good gameplay at only 8gbs?

my biggest concern for gamestop is that people already rarely buy graded or grade their own cards only big fans do that stuff you might have 1 graded card of your favorite pokemon/yugioh/ect card but you arent going to sell that card already. the market for graded cards... i just don't see as Booming i might be wrong there and sure ill bite that bullet.. but i think this is bad for gamestop not us we are gonna have a place to sell the junk we dont want anymore but few people are gonna buy them if they only buy graded and sell both graded and ungraded i can see it working though
Well said. I think a lot of their plan hinges on this entire thing helping to normalize the whole grading thing. That's a gamble on their part, though.
Honestly Im looking at other TCGs at the moment. YGO is just too expensive to keep playing and I think some of the other TCGS are just as fun to play. Going to a PokemonTCG event today for the new set thats coming out. When you look at how much the best YGO deck costs, you could literally build the top 10 meta decks in Pokemon and have money left over. Even if you bought all the more expensive staple cards.
I was really curious what favorite Digimon deck Alec was looking to max-rarity, and then I heard him say it was Mastemon. _Good fucking luck,_ my dude. Waifu Tax _out the ear_ with that deck. Have fun buying expensive alt arts for Angewomon, LadyDevimon, _and_ multiple versions of Mirei! She wears glasses and looks like she'll step on me, Alec, that's at least a fifty dollar card right there regardless of if it's good or not!
To add some context to the whole Square Enix things, other divisions were down over 20%. The MMO division was down over 20% despite FF14 being put on Xbox. FF16 and Rebirth are part of the only segment that grew, even if it's only 1%. Square also canceled 150 mil worth of projects. The money that they spent on those projects dosen't suddenly reappear out of thin air. All the money invested in those projects is lost. That loss is going to have a major impact on profit. The majority of SE's games are also already multiplatform. The 8k on the PS5 box does not mean the PS5 can render games at 8k. It means that the PS5 is capable of outputing that resolution. The PS5 can also play blu-ray disc's and stream videos. If your TV is not capable of 8k output, of course the resolution of whatever media is presented is not going to be 8k.
The only thing I look forward to in RA02 so far is the collectors rare alt art ghost ogres. Pre-sale doesn't even seen crazy expensive, so I'm not breaking the bank for my playset.
I personally appreciate that there are censored cards (at least with the waifu cards) since, contrary to popular belief, kids DO play Yugioh. Not everyone may be a kid, but adults aren't the only players. As far as rarities go, I like my shiny cards, but only my favorites are ones I'd consider maxing out, because I'm a budget player.
Not through the whole video yet, but I think Gamestop's statements don't really follow only taking graded cards. They're saying people might pick up cards to finish decks, but ask any tcg player, when do you ever buy graded cards to finish a deck? I definitely don't, the premium is way too high. I also don't see how graded cards are good for kids. Again, the market here is just too niche in my opinion. I could be wrong, I've never graded a card for a game I've played, but that system seems disconnected to me. On the point of corporate LGSes though, Japan has a few brands (Hareruya, Dragonstar, Batoloco to name a few) with multiple locations and it seems to work out fine for them, so I could see it happening for gamestop. Most gamestops I've been too aren't big enough for a real playspace though.
1:31:05 it was halo n the x box at some point people wanted more realistic graphics then it became adventure games that wanted more human looking characters, and then it just kept getting more and more cinematic to the point that people just call video games and movies, the sad thing is not every game needs that a lot of indie games sallow are very fun without all that oversaturation
Honestly i feel like konami should have done a side set for Edison instead of putting them in RC02. This just took up spots that couldn't have had some more staple cards for competitive and casual players.
both blue eyes and trishula in there its not a bad set for blue eyes players xD: in my opinion as a recently new yugioh player xyz seems easier then the synchro and link stuff we don't even speak of pendulum here but its easier to play with xyz monsters might be why they have more stuff
I like the lost arts, especially reprints because at the end of the day Konami isn’t making money off of them. It’s really only incentive to buy their overpriced product. I think lost arts are an interesting way of getting people to buy product who were on the fence. For example in Rarity collection 2, I like some of the cards and I like opening packs but the set is weak. However if I’m gonna get a lost art monster reborn or ultimate offering then I’ll probably buy a couple of RA02 packs. I think continuing censorship of cards would only be good if the censored cards were complete redraws like mystic tomato and ultimate offering. Then it would be cool having 2 arts of a card and maybe the tcg one is better looking than the ocg one
The Gamestop PSA play is kinda Smart for a company on verge of going extinct. My local card shops making fucking silly money from buying and selling pokemon cards. The amount of people that are buying PSA cards is actually huge now. There is now a new generation of kids who get their cards graded and build actual collections. If they manage to make this work for the next 5-10 years PSA graded Sword / shield / Scarlet & violet will have big price tags and will have a larger market. It's an interesting play for sure.
I think most people are just waiting for infinite forbidden right now. I might buy a little bit of battles of legend, and maybe some singles from the rarity collection if I choose to upgrade some cards but that's about it.

There would be no point in lost arts if they just changed the art. They would just change the art. It's just something for someone to collect if they want to. It's a fun variant, not a complete rehaul of their values. Plus kids aren't buying lost art a walmart, but they are buying packs that have the regular NA art
Most censorship is to keep certain age ratings. If they completely uncensored then they might have to put 16+ age rating or something and that can affect promotions like Mcdonalds collabs or where their product can be sold like walmarts.
For decks at the moment especially as someone whos getting back into it after ehhh 11 years lol and only playing time wizard stuff, gotta go with the "mutt" approach, would prefer a mix of base to max rarity for decks but thats expensive lol.
Gamestop feels like that uncle or cousin who is finding the next thing that will make them rich. Also $40 game for $15??? I remember getting $2 store credit per game!
The Set isn’t as bad as people make it out to be, but it’s not that great either. It’s the definition of mid and gets people all the mediocre staples in shiny foils. That’s the gist of it. I mean, I really despise Konamis business model but the community and it’s reaction is toxic too lol

I’ve been gaming since I could get my wee little boy hands around a PS1 controller. I’ve never once cared about the graphical quality and fps of game given that never really was the focus. It’s so strange to see how that has changed instead of a game being made to be ya know…a game?
I blame the downfall of " gaming" as a game concept and not a cinematic I.P. on 2 things Andy Serkis and his unmatched mocap acting abilities and Heavenly Sword which set new standard for how your game any game could make you feel like you are in the action right there... What Konami is doing with the Lost Arts, as mentioned in the video, feels similar to what they do with alt art in MD. In that, you can't craft them & you have to pull them from a new pack. So another way to get more money. & after hearing what you guys had to say about Lost Arts, to me, it sounds like they're now using censorship to do the same by making them Lost Arts later. Especially so when releasing them not long afterward.
Yea the price breakdown of RA02 is so scummy and so obviously "trying to bank on the good will of RA01." They are making you pay the exact same msrp for 2, with less super rares overall. The set is just not worth buying imo.

I know I can come off as dismissive in my tone. But trust me, I'm not against Edison (or any other retro formats). I just don't play them personally. And not for any negative reason. I just really like being able to use new decks because they're now fun for me. But I did actually play through (and thoroughly enjoy) both Edison and Tengu format, so I'm well aware of the appeal. Just not (currently) my thing.
Illusion of Chaos searches Magicians’ Souls then puts itself back into the deck as a self contained engine. If people really are less than excited for RA02, that’s fine. I am and that means more for me!

Excellent theory for a yugioh format the only down side is people will find a new meta where after summon 3 (going first) they are going to still attempt the same end game we have now, set up a 3 monster board that has the most reactivity and negates as possible, a great example is Horus cards, that start off on one card and can summon 3 beefy, effective, monsters, just top of my head thought but just imagine breaking that board with only 3 summons of your own 🥶, most archetypes do not land on big big boards after 3 summons, but Horus would be top tier in this theoretical rule set

I tried getting back into Yu-Gi-Oh for a bit but the game just feels so toxic and oppressive that I just couldn't go the distance with it. I uninstalled Master Duel but I still got my cards to play casually with some friends.
Konami sort of rebooted Yu-Gi-Oh with Rush Duel, a new game with new rules and for some reason they made summoning unlimited rather than what you stated, which I 100% agree with, 3 summons (1 normal, 2 special). I feel like it just goes to show how disconnected they are to what made the game approachable to begin with.
Id say maybe more of a commander style format like magic would be cool It would fit the theme of OG ygo with having an Ace monster in your deck.
I'm glad I have taken the time to listen to a bunch of people's opinions on Rarity Collection 2. I will probably be skipping it and looking towards Battles of Legend and the next sets of tins.
Having a very strict budget, listening to videos like this are incredibly helpful. It helps me plan what to buy and what to save up some money for. Looking at you chaos angel tin.
Speaking of, who else here misses the days when tins weren't random promo cards? When you could look at the lid of the tin and know what you're getting?
As someone that is max rarity in Digimon for a few of my decks. I think the main thing is having fun with the deck at locals and the social interactions with it. I started digimon last November and I have had 2 decks that I have been on an adventure with which was D-Brigade and Gracenovamon and those decks have led me to talking to alot of people in the store. I decided to max rarity them because I take pride in using them no matter the circumstances.
Sanrio is actually really relevant and popular still amongst kids. They have merch at places like Target, Hot Topic, Box Lunch, 5 below. All my kid cousins know about them and like the property.
Actually, the OCG has been making Rarity Collection sets since 2014 (currently 4 total), starting with The Rarity Collection
Reprinting all the visas planets field spells but none of the cards that go with them, fenrir, visas, riumhardt, reinohardt, etc., is very weird to me...

About lost arts; it's about the option to me. For example, I love all the uncensored Lightsworns and edge imps, but I prefer the censored Harpies because the "color coding" is fun.
It's just a promtion to help support LGS's, like FNM promos, etc. It helps encourage the locals regulars to buy SOME product.
As for the age discussion, dropping $30 at once is kind of a lot for a kid, until they've at least got a part time job. That's a COMMITMENT, it means they saved up some, ya know? I imagine the vast majority of Lost arts end up in the hands of adult players.

36:15 we actually started to do this, everyone got two OTS packs but every win got you a rarity collection pack.
Rarity Collection, then Casual Collection 2. Konami isnt targeting the demographics that RA01 was. As someone who hasnt played in a while and wants cards like Souls and the other DM cards I like the set. But I doubt many players are hyped about RA02 after the set list was released. I think not reprinting Trident Dragion until later is honestly due to the fact that they felt they needed to sell Tempai as a budget deck. This allows Store owners to at least get that one bulk card sold for $100, massive profit for those who dont need it. I also think Legacy of Destruction was also oddly focused on making casuals buy more product instead of the competitive hardcore player. Making Yugi cards high rarity instead of Tempai.
Im surprised during the Square Enix segment you guys didnt mention a big problem theyre having is they make JRPGs but just dont have much presence in Japan right now, the country that obviously likes JRPGs the most. The PS5 in general is doing a lot worse in Japan compared to the PS4.

It’s a really bittersweet feeling to see so much hate in Rartiy 2 because I run DM and Blue Eyes decks for fun on top of my competitive Branded deck. So the reprints for blue eyes like Bingo and Souls is peak for me. I do need more Drolls, I do need some Twin Twisters, I know most people don’t like the set because of this reason but this set is exactly what I need..sure, maybe some branded cards would be fine but the reprints in the tins already happened. Granguignol would have been a solid reprint but I’m going to buy rarity because my DM and BEYD need those reprints. Alternative and Bingo Machine have been $20 for a minute. I need more copies and I spend too much on my branded decks to fork over the extra money for my secondary decks.
I fall in a similar camp as Alec on deck building. I'm currently putting together a Blackwing deck for Edison and am going the best bargain option. Whatever the best looking version that isn't way more expensive than another option. Usually that means Ultras, but I'm actually a big fan of the premium golds from 2014-16.

I have a question I would love to hear you guys discuss on the podcast because i need some help. I’m opening a trading card and retro video game shop in a small little town in west virginia and i’m trying to figure out how to engage with the people. I ran a yugioh club at the elementary school my mom worked at and I had about 15 kids coming every week so i know there’s interest. I’m thinking about doing a daily after school club as well as tournaments and such but what do you guys think i could do to entice people?

Gamestop only taking graded cards is because you can't expect regular employees to spot fakes or understand card conditions and lessens the change of damage or loss of value between any transaction
I like some ultimate rates but I'll go for ultra rare or super rare. I'll deal with secret but I like a nice clear picture. Matching rarity and printings is what I'll go for after the deck is fully built. Gold rares take priority of being replaced.
I think the gaming hardware developers raced toward tech advantage when good exclusives and/or online community are really what sold the consoles (not a marginal tech advantage). Nintendo is proof of this premise (you can sell the new Zelda or Smash on a potato of a console and still profit). If Xbox and PlayStation scaled back expectations to 360/PS3 graphics, I think the community would push back for a while, but a new generation would embrace and accept that as a standard. If you look at the game catalog for Xbox 360, it is insane compared to the Xbox One or Series X, partly due to the prolonged development issues Alec and Paul are talking about for next gen consoles. That expansive catalog likely reflects a development cycle time-consumer enjoyment-profit optimum for consumers and business
Exactly. If you went back and played Black Flag on the PS3 and 360 it still looks really good. IDK why we couldnt have stuck with games at that graphical level. They made those games to fit on DL DVDS with only hold 8gb of Data, why are PC games so big? When you can make them look good and have good gameplay at only 8gbs?

my biggest concern for gamestop is that people already rarely buy graded or grade their own cards only big fans do that stuff you might have 1 graded card of your favorite pokemon/yugioh/ect card but you arent going to sell that card already. the market for graded cards... i just don't see as Booming i might be wrong there and sure ill bite that bullet.. but i think this is bad for gamestop not us we are gonna have a place to sell the junk we dont want anymore but few people are gonna buy them if they only buy graded and sell both graded and ungraded i can see it working though
Well said. I think a lot of their plan hinges on this entire thing helping to normalize the whole grading thing. That's a gamble on their part, though.
Honestly Im looking at other TCGs at the moment. YGO is just too expensive to keep playing and I think some of the other TCGS are just as fun to play. Going to a PokemonTCG event today for the new set thats coming out. When you look at how much the best YGO deck costs, you could literally build the top 10 meta decks in Pokemon and have money left over. Even if you bought all the more expensive staple cards.
I was really curious what favorite Digimon deck Alec was looking to max-rarity, and then I heard him say it was Mastemon. _Good fucking luck,_ my dude. Waifu Tax _out the ear_ with that deck. Have fun buying expensive alt arts for Angewomon, LadyDevimon, _and_ multiple versions of Mirei! She wears glasses and looks like she'll step on me, Alec, that's at least a fifty dollar card right there regardless of if it's good or not!
To add some context to the whole Square Enix things, other divisions were down over 20%. The MMO division was down over 20% despite FF14 being put on Xbox. FF16 and Rebirth are part of the only segment that grew, even if it's only 1%. Square also canceled 150 mil worth of projects. The money that they spent on those projects dosen't suddenly reappear out of thin air. All the money invested in those projects is lost. That loss is going to have a major impact on profit. The majority of SE's games are also already multiplatform.
The 8k on the PS5 box does not mean the PS5 can render games at 8k. It means that the PS5 is capable of outputing that resolution. The PS5 can also play blu-ray disc's and stream videos. If your TV is not capable of 8k output, of course the resolution of whatever media is presented is not going to be 8k.

The only thing I look forward to in RA02 so far is the collectors rare alt art ghost ogres. Pre-sale doesn't even seen crazy expensive, so I'm not breaking the bank for my playset.

I personally appreciate that there are censored cards (at least with the waifu cards) since, contrary to popular belief, kids DO play Yugioh. Not everyone may be a kid, but adults aren't the only players.
As far as rarities go, I like my shiny cards, but only my favorites are ones I'd consider maxing out, because I'm a budget player.
Most of the time there very unnecessary though.

Not through the whole video yet, but I think Gamestop's statements don't really follow only taking graded cards. They're saying people might pick up cards to finish decks, but ask any tcg player, when do you ever buy graded cards to finish a deck? I definitely don't, the premium is way too high.
I also don't see how graded cards are good for kids. Again, the market here is just too niche in my opinion. I could be wrong, I've never graded a card for a game I've played, but that system seems disconnected to me.
On the point of corporate LGSes though, Japan has a few brands (Hareruya, Dragonstar, Batoloco to name a few) with multiple locations and it seems to work out fine for them, so I could see it happening for gamestop. Most gamestops I've been too aren't big enough for a real playspace though.
1:31:05 it was halo n the x box at some point people wanted more realistic graphics then it became adventure games that wanted more human looking characters, and then it just kept getting more and more cinematic to the point that people just call video games and movies, the sad thing is not every game needs that a lot of indie games sallow are very fun without all that oversaturation

Honestly i feel like konami should have done a side set for Edison instead of putting them in RC02. This just took up spots that couldn't have had some more staple cards for competitive and casual players.

I like the lost arts, especially reprints because at the end of the day Konami isn’t making money off of them. It’s really only incentive to buy their overpriced product. I think lost arts are an interesting way of getting people to buy product who were on the fence. For example in Rarity collection 2, I like some of the cards and I like opening packs but the set is weak. However if I’m gonna get a lost art monster reborn or ultimate offering then I’ll probably buy a couple of RA02 packs. I think continuing censorship of cards would only be good if the censored cards were complete redraws like mystic tomato and ultimate offering. Then it would be cool having 2 arts of a card and maybe the tcg one is better looking than the ocg one

The Gamestop PSA play is kinda Smart for a company on verge of going extinct.
My local card shops making fucking silly money from buying and selling pokemon cards. The amount of people that are buying PSA cards is actually huge now. There is now a new generation of kids who get their cards graded and build actual collections.
If they manage to make this work for the next 5-10 years PSA graded Sword / shield / Scarlet & violet will have big price tags and will have a larger market.
It's an interesting play for sure.

There would be no point in lost arts if they just changed the art. They would just change the art. It's just something for someone to collect if they want to. It's a fun variant, not a complete rehaul of their values. Plus kids aren't buying lost art a walmart, but they are buying packs that have the regular NA art
Most censorship is to keep certain age ratings. If they completely uncensored then they might have to put 16+ age rating or something and that can affect promotions like Mcdonalds collabs or where their product can be sold like walmarts.
For decks at the moment especially as someone whos getting back into it after ehhh 11 years lol and only playing time wizard stuff, gotta go with the "mutt" approach, would prefer a mix of base to max rarity for decks but thats expensive lol.
Gamestop feels like that uncle or cousin who is finding the next thing that will make them rich.

I’ve been gaming since I could get my wee little boy hands around a PS1 controller. I’ve never once cared about the graphical quality and fps of game given that never really was the focus. It’s so strange to see how that has changed instead of a game being made to be ya know…a game?

What Konami is doing with the Lost Arts, as mentioned in the video, feels similar to what they do with alt art in MD. In that, you can't craft them & you have to pull them from a new pack. So another way to get more money. & after hearing what you guys had to say about Lost Arts, to me, it sounds like they're now using censorship to do the same by making them Lost Arts later. Especially so when releasing them not long afterward.
Yea the price breakdown of RA02 is so scummy and so obviously "trying to bank on the good will of RA01." They are making you pay the exact same msrp for 2, with less super rares overall. The set is just not worth buying imo.

I know I can come off as dismissive in my tone. But trust me, I'm not against Edison (or any other retro formats). I just don't play them personally. And not for any negative reason. I just really like being able to use new decks because they're now fun for me. But I did actually play through (and thoroughly enjoy) both Edison and Tengu format, so I'm well aware of the appeal. Just not (currently) my thing.
