This is "Autodesk Maya". It used to be called "Alias Maya" back in the day. "Walt Disney" Company did collaboration with "Alias" on that software as a development tool for their movie 'Dinosaur" (UI, Workflow). The version seen in the clip is actually version 1.0, before it was available at the stores.
Aladdin was released in 1991.. Maya was not invented at that point. Originally they used Alias studio, and Softimage 3D to produce these shots. The first iterations of maya was circulating the beta community and internal testing in early 1997, with its release of 1.0 in 1998. So the shots we are seeing, are imported data.. Another indication of this, is that the version of maya shown in the clip, is not version 1.0, as the transformation tools where not moved to the left side, until a much later version, but where placed at the top left, besides the shelves. Also back then, it was Alias|Wavefront, and it was changed to just Alias in 2003 on there 20th anniversary. But it is very interesting that they showed the scene in Maya.. What year is this clip actually from?
That's so cool. In the beginning of the live action movie, genie starts the prologue of the movie and in the animation movie, the voice of Genie, Robin Williams does this too.
I love the one part about the props where Robin is advertising the bra part! “Look at this: it’s a double yarmulke! Look at this: it’s a double sling-shot!” If that was in the movie, I would’ve loved that!
0:52 Funny thing, I haven't heard of Al Hirschfeld but his art they were showing reminded me of something, on my bedside table I have a copy of Alec Guinness' Blessings in Disguise I got two days ago , I thought the illustration on the cover looked very nice and I looked at the cover again and saw a very small signature, it said Hirschfeld.
Most Animators aren't able to find time to interview. Most of them follow a regions time schedule; therefor they don't have any time to go out from their office.
Dricon1997 budget, the better and more experienced animators would have moved onto other projects. Other animators would have taken up the reigns emulating the style.
That's so brilliant, give Robin Williams a box of props, and let him do his thing. FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
