Nothing was more disappointing to me than this game tbh. Gollum wasn't interesting to me in the first place, so there was nothing there for me to be disappointed by. Greyhill Incident though.. I fucking loved Signs by M. Night when I was growing up. This was basically fixed out to be Signs: The Game, in so many ways it's not even a question that that's exactly what the devs were shooting for. But then they didn't just shoot and miss literally every possible aspect that made Signs good, they shot backwards and through a neighboring Walmart.

Forspoken wasn't a bad game. The shitstorm you are talking about is from, the people putting politics in it. And using the negativity around it to ride the RUclips algorithm. It sold well and was top 10 best selling. It also lasted number 2 in Japan for a month and a half. Where as FF16 only lasted 2 weeks.

Even then, it sold super well. The backlash from Forspoken was not because of politics. Sure, there are small minority, but the main issue was the writing. The main lead was unlikeable (an opinion shared by nearly everyone), and the missions felt repetitive. If you really want a poor sales record, Forspoken did badly, even SE confirmed it themselves

The Souls-like genre is an extremely difficult one to develop a game for, and developers shouldn't try it unless they know what they are doing. This is because a game can get away with being brutally hard only if the fighting mechanics are polished to the utmost extreme, making fighting an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Also extremely polished character animations during the fights helps a lot to the overall feeling and enjoyability. Where excessive difficulty very quickly falls on its face is when the fighting is frustrating due to bad controls and badly designed fighting mechanics. And it doesn't exactly help if the fighting animations are sub-par.
Hogwarts Legacy, Jedi Survivor, Baldur's Gate 3, dead space remake, FF16 and probably 1 or 2 im not thinking of right now were better to me then all the games you mentioned that you thought were good at the beginning of the video and you did not mention any of them.. The only one you got right was re4 remake.. Street Fighter 6, really? I might be in the minority here, but tears of the Kingdom plays like a kids game.. no voice acting and childish sound effects. I don't know how any adults could enjoy that, but thats just me I guess. I question this channels taste in games honestly. I enjoy a good deal of your videos except most of them have to do mostly with super old games and seem repetitive. There are many smaller channels that are much better and deserve the subscriber count that you have so you must be doing something right for people I guess. You just rarely do it for me but on occasion you do. Maybe you are like most big channels who were good at the beginning and then started going downhill. I don't know.. Forspoken had some early hype, and was more or less expected to help move PS5 systems (as it was PS5 & Windows exclusive, no X-Box release), up until people got a closer look and were turned off by the MC's banter and the gameplay being flawed. I was personally most put off by the high asking price (the price for the base game is still higher than the likes of say, Starfield), which was very ballsy considering people were getting cold feet leading up to its release. That said, it doesn't really belong on this list. It was just a bit mediocre and way too confident for its asking price, not critically flawed. Now, it would certainly fit on a list of _disappointments._ And in fact I think it has made some lists like that, though I'm not sure if it was on this channel or others.
I remember a friend of mine trying to get me hyped up for crime boss by telling me it's got all these celebrities in it, and I replied "So? All the stars in the world won't make a game good if the gameplay is crap." Glad I didn't fall for that one.
I mean, if 'star studded cast' is brought out as a selling point, that's generally a red flag to me. I mean, sure, atrocious voice acting can sink a lot investment in a game, but 'it has excellent voice acting' never saved a bad one IMO.
Now this is a collection of hot takes. Kinda surprised so many indie games got dunked on this hard. On the other hand, it does mean this is a pretty good year for games, seeing as there's barely anything TO dunk on this year.
I think I’m gonna quit gaming. Everything is so expensive games are much worse than their advertised and they get boring too quickly. Every time I find a game that seems good it’s just the advertising I got this new game hell sweeper a VR game when I play it, it is 10 times worse than what is shown and you can’t tell what games are good and you can’t experiment with buying them because they all cost $40.
It's actually sad when you look at the rest of their library. Their strength seemed to be point and click games with some forays into other genres, and they had some fairly well received ones. Gollum was a notable divergence from their usual MO, so most of the devs would have been working outside their comfort zone. Feels like there was some executive pressure involved to use a big name (LOTR) for a game, and then go for more "mainstream" gameplay mechanics than they usually used. I feel like if it was just some random totally original game, it would have flopped but not killed the studio. Would have just been a learning experience about a new genre. But because it had a huge IP attached, the scrutiny was turned up even higher and doomed them. I just feel bad for the devs.

7 or so patches later and Crime Boss is pretty good. The hammy voice acting is hilarious and the graphics are quite good too

Forspoken had some early hype, and was more or less expected to help move PS5 systems (as it was PS5 & Windows exclusive, no X-Box release), up until people got a closer look and were turned off by the MC's banter and the gameplay being flawed. I was personally most put off by the high asking price (the price for the base game is still higher than the likes of say, Starfield), which was very ballsy considering people were getting cold feet leading up to its release.
That said, it doesn't really belong on this list. It was just a bit mediocre and way too confident for its asking price, not critically flawed.
Now, it would certainly fit on a list of _disappointments._ And in fact I think it has made some lists like that, though I'm not sure if it was on this channel or others.
That game was more mediocre than bad.

This video didnt take my desire to try some of these games for myself.
I remember a friend of mine trying to get me hyped up for crime boss by telling me it's got all these celebrities in it, and I replied "So? All the stars in the world won't make a game good if the gameplay is crap." Glad I didn't fall for that one.
I mean, if 'star studded cast' is brought out as a selling point, that's generally a red flag to me. I mean, sure, atrocious voice acting can sink a lot investment in a game, but 'it has excellent voice acting' never saved a bad one IMO.
Now this is a collection of hot takes. Kinda surprised so many indie games got dunked on this hard.
On the other hand, it does mean this is a pretty good year for games, seeing as there's barely anything TO dunk on this year.

I think I’m gonna quit gaming. Everything is so expensive games are much worse than their advertised and they get boring too quickly. Every time I find a game that seems good it’s just the advertising I got this new game hell sweeper a VR game when I play it, it is 10 times worse than what is shown and you can’t tell what games are good and you can’t experiment with buying them because they all cost $40.
I really enjoy Nadir, and I don't find it too difficult at all. Challenging, for sure, but nothing I'd consider unfair.
The only redeeming quality of Gollum was that it was so bad that the developer actually retired following its release.
It's actually sad when you look at the rest of their library. Their strength seemed to be point and click games with some forays into other genres, and they had some fairly well received ones. Gollum was a notable divergence from their usual MO, so most of the devs would have been working outside their comfort zone. Feels like there was some executive pressure involved to use a big name (LOTR) for a game, and then go for more "mainstream" gameplay mechanics than they usually used.
I feel like if it was just some random totally original game, it would have flopped but not killed the studio. Would have just been a learning experience about a new genre. But because it had a huge IP attached, the scrutiny was turned up even higher and doomed them. I just feel bad for the devs.
