- Round the Horne… Revisited, was first produced in October 2003 prior to opening in the West End in January 2004. Based on the original radio scripts, it was adapted by Brian Cooke, the last surviving writer from the series, and directed by Michael Kingsbury. The play was also filmed for television, directed by Nick Wood, and was broadcast on BBC Four on 13 June 2004, as part of a Summer in the Sixties season, subsequently airing on BBC Two on 1 January 2005.
Round The Horne was Excellent 👍
My late Dad liked it was as well
Round The Horne is a sort of landmark in sensibility. It's humour is essentially what we find funny today, more or less. Best comedy ensemble ever,
Just for info - Kenneth Williams characters were always written by Barry Took alone such as Rambling Syd Rumpo & Gruntfuttock, Barry was planning on leaving the show in 1969 before Kenneth Horne's death as he had been appointed Deputy Head of BBC TV comedy, his first job being commissioning Monty Python's Flying Circus. BTW I went to many recordings at the BBC Paris studio at Monday lunchtime..
Just utterly stunning. What a superb production from all concerned.
Loverly Stuff, they should do more, it doesn't say who the above performers were, they did a great job
Saw it live at the Prince of Wales theatre - did you notice the backdrop is an old style radio set?
modern comedy has nothing on this
completely brilliant. thanks
Some pretty dodgy camera work, I'm afraid...
I saw this live, and enjoyed it as a loving tribute. But were we laughing at the excellent jokes or admiring the skilful recreation?
Both perhaps ?
The chap who plays Horne is very good, but embellishes the voice a little too much.

It's interesting how back then the BBC announcer told us that if we were easily offended we were in the right place and today they tell us, if we are easily offended the performers are in the wrong place.
I saw this live in London in 2004, and I spoke to Robin Sebastian afterward.
I am happy you shared this anecdote.
I also saw it live, the theatre was full but when I went to the follow up 'Stop Messing About' it was half empty, rather like the original radio series it wasn't so popular..
Young people of the age of 50 and under simply wouldn't get much of the comedy intention of this programme. Of course in the original, the camp gay stuff was always Kenneth Williams, who was, and Hugh Paddick, who may have been, and thus at the time was considered soooo daring. The double entendre also at the time were the staple for intended filth.
In these recent years, the bite has now been lost. But for us oldies who do get it, this reproduction is as close as we'll ever get.
back when we had to use our own imaginations
its all in the mind you know
Wonderful production - done with such respect, love, and total understanding of the original.
I notice that the Rambling Sid song replaced Simon Dee to Jimmy Young
