The iMac started it originally in the late 1990's or early 2000's but it got out of control with the iPhone, iPod, the iDildo, the Core i7, etc. We are seeing the same type of crap with "AI" being plastered over everything.

I get that the washing machine and fridge manufacturers get away with this, because their target audience needs urgent vegetable cooling and bedsheet cleaning and assume more features equals more happy, but where do *tech companies* get the idea that people who are interested in computer technology, also are completely illiterate about computer technology? Even outside of """AI""", any time I've seen the marketing phrase "wield the power of x" or "unleash the [quality] of [thing]" has been massively unimpressive.
(Sincerely, I remember some dishwasher company putting out an advert along the lines of "unleash the SPEED of LIQUID", like that's supposed to be massively impressive. It's not even necessarily a good quality; from memory, so may be wrong, but powder dissolves in water faster than a liquid solution would, or the difference is so minor as to make it basically even. At least make up a nonsense dishwashing buzzword, instead of trying to sell me on the idea that water is really fast. "Unleash the CHEMICAL VIOLENCE of THE DETERGENATOR")

IDGAF about stuff that actually DOES have to do with AI. Let alone this brainless marketing. I'm sure if you looked hard enough you'd find an "AI" chair just like all the "gaming" chairs.
We have absolutely zero must have AI apps and just a handful that can perform some parlor tricks, and they even do _that_ badly. AI capability has _nothing_ to do with my next hardware purchase because it doesn't _need_ special hardware, it only needs special hardware to run the most efficiently, which no one cares about even then because they aren't going to be using it all day every day. And you especially won't be doing 15hr AI workloads on a laptop where magically you can't find a f*cking plug. Thin and light laptops is the _last_ place you need an NPU because anyone that works daily with AI isn't doing it in the middle of the f*cking forest.
Toss that pointless NPU and put a faster GPU on that die. That's a _vastly_ better use of silicon real estate than a freaking NPU that will only be a novelty for years to come.

I think the industry see's AI as the future of compute. Ask yourself why a fan was ever a "gaming" fan when it's just a 4 pin fan, well obviously it's just as much a label as "AI fan" though, the later implies that the fan is intelligent in some way lmao which is what I think throws reviewers for a spin. It's marketing but it's also nothing new but a new label for who they want to appeal to.
I'm more interested to see how reviewers and such keep up. It's it worthwhile to rip on every product for "AI branding" when your mouse, monitor, pc case, and keyboard is already sacrificing features, price, and performance to "Gamer RGB?" I wonder who, if anyone, will brand products for gamers going forward as they become a smaller and smaller part of the market.
I see it two ways: none of this will be useful because most of it's branding, and AI for consumers will be limited to ChatGPT while consumer PC's catch up and programs get developed.
OR some massive leap forward in optimization happens, AI becomes suddenly more accessible, and spreads to consumers faster than anyone expects. AI is so quickly developing that this wouldn't shock me. Without open and local models it's hard to imagine though, as those are basically the only type of thing you can actually build products and use cases around.
