Life ain't easy roaming the bayou as a solo hunter. You should find some mates to play with you or at least tag along random players. I loved how you snuck up on these guys in the forest haha. GL mate.

I'm on console, and it's the same over here. Once you get into 6-star lobbies it gets much more competitive.

Hey you have a melee weapon to deal with most monsters you don't need to shoot everything. You'll run out of ammo real quick that way.
Everything is about sound so you need a good headset .

Getting shot around corners is old.
Shotguns are only good up to 30-40 ft or 10-12 meters, use rifles and pistols for long and medium range.
