Went into guitar center last month for the first time in a couple years. I was clueless about current market prices for new models from the big names. $1400+ for the bottom of the barrel bog standard models from Gibson and Fender and decent quality strat customs starting around 2.5-4k!?! Gibson's definitely demanding higher prices. The high wall really nice stuff covered in $6-8k guitars?!? Like whut??? In this economy? They're smokin crack!!! 😆 If I hadn't seen that with my own eyes I would've thought the deals and prices for your swap was crazy. I'd say you did good. You threw in all those extras and it was a real great condition 70's strat. He got a good quality strat he can make a good sale on in his store to the right person. That Les Paul looks to be an easy $3.5-4k turn around in todays model prices.
Great deal. I may be biased as I am not a huge Strat fan (I hate bolt-on necks, it’s like reaching under a girl’s skirt and finding a coq! They also sound very banjo like to me). On the other hand Gibson have significantly raised their prices… that Les Paul would have cost $2200 new a few years ago, I don’t think you will get $2500 for it, probably $2000 to $2200. You got what $350 in cash? So that puts you at $2350 to $2550 and frankly your Strat was worth more than that given the asking price for the 2 same year and model at the other booths. I also think, at guitar shows, everyone is looking for “a deal”. Personally I would put it for sale on Reverb for $2800, taking home $2625 or more after fees and shipping costs (provided you offered free shipping, I tend to personally). Could you have made out better financially? Yes but it would have 1.) taken longer and 2.) more hassle. By the way, one thing you didn’t say that I think is worth mentioning is dealers with booths will usually act like something is not special or act like it is near worthless WHEN something is nice, it’s a tactic to wear down the seller. They do this when they want it, but they want it super cheap and you’re expected to sell for less because “hey buddy I gotta make profit” that’s not our problem so feck that noise LOL
I pray to God thing correct-Some of the prices are sick. This event looks great. I would love to attend one. There is nothing like it where I live. These people are genuine.

I'm all about the used market shitting the bed for a few years. I held off from buying anything during the the guitarmageddon that was going on as a result of the Covid lockdowns beyond necessities: like strings, cables, etc. There were a couple guitars, an amp and several preamps and pedals. I have one of the guitars. It's 3 years old, and i got it for 60% of the price new. I was seeing them selling for like $50 off the retail and i just refused to do it, in spite of being able to buy it. The other guitar's price has dropped dramatically too, but I'm putting that off for a couple years. I wanted to pick up an Egnater Rebel 20. I had one years ago and i remember it was awesome for slaving preamps and modelers. You can run it from 20W down to 1W, or switch between 6V6's to EL84s. It wasn't even that bad of a price, considering the absurd prices of everything else, but i held off and ended ponying up $60 more 10 months ago, for the Rebel and a 15W Tweaker 12" combo. I sold cars for several years before i started working on guitars and amps. It doesn't matter if it's guitars and amps, pedals, or a mid-sized crossover SUV; i don't mind paying what something is worth. Sometimes, for various reasons, the price of something will spike. Maybe a component is suddenly unavailable and they no longer build them in that form, or maybe someone sees it on John Mayer's pedalboard and the price goes up. Covid created a widespread, but predictably temporary large increase in demand. People were locked in their homes for a year with nothing but time and enhanced unemployment benefits on their hands. Eventually that would end, followed shortly by a lot of gear suddenly starting to they the used market. -Sunrise, sunset.-7 I do feel for the independent shops getting squeezed.

Cool. Like that Kendrick amp. And being a Carvin guy the X60 is a rare one. Also when I was a kid my best friends gramps had a 20’s arch top with that small 5watt Gibson tweed amp. That he bought in 1927. He used bring it out every time I came over. Because he wanted me to play it. I was always so amazed at just how good it sounded. This was in the early 80’s.
Thanks for this shooting from the hip walk and talk document Brad. Really cool. for those of us stuck on the far ends of the globe, this is a valuable insight.. Particularly liked your old school interactions with most stall holders, something truly rare in this day. Love the focus on old amps and unusual guitars too, especially the guy with the customised Marshall style amps. Alex ( South Africa ).
The market is saturated with very decent inexpensive Asian guitars, and hoarders, who have driven up prices on vintage instruments, now want to unload them. For that to happen, prices have to go down.
By the way . . . I absolutely LOVE these Dallas International Guitar Festival videos that you're doing. I watch last year's video from start to finish and I did the same with this one. Thanks again for a great video! Rock on, brother man!
Me and my grandpa recently modified my tube amplifiers we put silvertone 6V6 tubes in it for the preamp We also added a noise gate circuit and a Danelectro fab echo circuit I play country rockabilly and bluegrass and the strings I use are Thomastik flatwound strings 11sb We also want the speakers for Jensen P8R speakers
42:25 Y’all, that is the great Larry Briggs (Amigo Guitar Shows) that Brad is talking to. That’s the mist I’ve ever heard him talk. That a great moment. The stories he could tell about the famous guitars he’s sold. Wow. Without saying too much, Mr. Briggs and The Guitologist have a fair amount in common relative to their feelings on stagflation. 😉 Larry Briggs is one of the good ones.
Brad , I traded my white SG that I paid 1900 dollars for to a dude who wanted to trade me a 2500 dollar Gibson SG modern in blueberry fade and I didn't like how neck heavy it was so I traded it for a fender American ultra stratocaster in cobra blue and I love the fender , it's a keeper
Wait you traded your $1,900 white SG to a dude for a $2,500 Gibson GS modern in blueberry which turned out to be weight balanced as neck heavy so then you turned around and traded the neck heavy Gibson for a Fender Ultra Stratocaster in cobra blue and you love it?
I had a great time . I went Sat. and Sun. found a great deal on a vintage Strat on Sunday! Sunday is the day for deals. That is of course if theres anything left. Dealers scoop up most of the best guitar deals on Thursday.
Those Spectra 225 amps were good sounding amps. My friend had a music store in the 80s and was a dealer for them. They were sold through Dean Markley. I wish I bought one of them. They also made tube amps.
Great video. I think you got a fair trade at the end. I'm not sure what I would have done in your position. Value wise is good, but there is something intangible about having a vintage guitar that I might not be able to get over for trading it for a modern production guitar.
Hey Brad, Wow a lot of great stuff at the show on day one. Most way out of my price range though. I look forward to seeing what's up on day two. I also wanted to say thanks for the video on the Enya Nova go Sonic. When I saw it, I had to have one and I love it. Thanks again!

That's how I've done business for over 45 years. Being self employed for over 32 years, I had 1 check/payment bounce, and that was rectified about a week later. Treat people how you want to be treated, do any work on your clients home as you would do in your own home, and do what you said you were going to do. No shortcuts, bait and switch, or white lies. Do your job, and you will be rewarded in life.
You came out pretty good, Brad! I'm going to have to check out Old's Cool amps! I have a hankering for a Bandmaster, and he is not too far from me! Thank you for all the content you provide! You're as REAL as it gets!!!
49:58 Diablo Guitars. I bought a used Jackson Custom Shop Pablo Santana Extreme Warrior from them just a few weeks ago via Reverb. Made an offer on what they were asking and got it for a good price. Good sellers.
That LP you acquired was about as good a deal you'd get anywhere, with it being in Brand New Mint condition. It's a guitar I would love to own for sure! Good video🍻
Man the world has changed….the first dealer…..well not sure if it’s been gone over…no idea of price…and them maybe I’ll look into it for you….what the ?
The original 6v6 reverberockets are some of the best sounding amps ever built. One of my greatest gear regrets is trading one for a silverface fender back in the 90s
Hey Guitologist, I made it into your video...lol...very cool. I was selling my old Washburn Stephen Davies. Wish I had been aware enough to recognize you! Good juju
I think it was a good trade my first 'name-brand' guitar was a 65-66 mustang.. red... I repainted it blue, then white, then I glued faux black fur to the body.. actually looked sweet... gigged it like that for about a year... then a friend of mine (who's done guitars for the likes of the Stones, Johnny Winter) refinished it for me natural... and I traded it for a 60 Studebaker Lark convertible. I do miss it..
I use to go to two or three vintage guitar shows a year and always had a great time searching for a guitar or two to bring home. Thanks for doing these videos Brad, I still enjoy looking at vintage guitars and amps, but can no longer get to the shows, or need to be bringing more guitars home.
@@crosswalklarry That’s an excuse for a world that has no respect anymore. I’m older that 90 % of the dealers in the video. I agree there is the odd one, but morality and respect 🫡 has left this place sadly, as well as a simple thank you as he stated. I wish it wasn’t so.
The ones who vocally demand respect are always the ones who least deserve it. The one who takes offense when old people remain seated, when in his glorious presence, has led a very lucky life, to have reached old age with sych a kid's attitude. Maybe those disrespectful old people didn't know who you are? You should've insisted: "Do you people know who I am?! Stand for me, now!"
I think you may be right about guitar sales and prices stagnating. The whole economy seems to be slipping into deflation, the worst of all economic conditions.

I talked to him after, super nice guy. . It was epic.
the guy on the right from the fool that offered 1800 for your strat was a big guitar player. He played in Queensriche. It's Parker Lundgren. Their shop collection is INSANE!!!
Great video, Brad! I think you've got a MUCH better guitar, whether or not you are a LP guy or not, and you have some cash in yiour pocket. I am definitely in the "you made a great deal " camp.
The mustangs are cool but a ton of bread. Damn those Martins were nice. Every 70s guitar I ever sold was a huge mistake. Early on, the Vibroverb was steal
The range of value on say vintage Ibanez from the lawsuit era on Reverb is insane dbl cut their design, brass/gold harmonica style bridge gorgeous top and 3 piece neck inlay, 1800 on one 4500 on another, both really cherry, neither has moved in 6 weeks! Interesting there because Ibanez recently reissued the exact same model including the 3 way switch series/split/parallel for each PU, with similar density but woods not really used back with the older Ibanez $550 new at Sweetwater, a friend bought one in 2021, really sweet guitar old and new, but what a $ range. Rarer ones like a vintage iceman for $6k
Love your guitar exhibition/sale episodes. On a slightly different note, can you an episode (or two) on neck throughs? Just wanna hear your perspective. Thanks
My advice, after nearly 50 years buying and selling guitars as an active player in gigging bands is this: Buy what you like to play. Don't speculate financially on guitars that you wouldn't or don't like playing. If you don't like the way Gibson Firebirds play or feel, don't collect one.
For guitars, there is a bigger problem. People my generation are aging out, selling equipment, and younger buyers are not interested in the guitars we bought because their heroes didn't play them to the same high degree. We are the largest generation, and we kept the industry afloat. It's going to crash. No stopping it.
Brad- Everything is "stagflated" I have a mint KISS concert t-shirt from 1995-1996 tour. Perfect condition complete with KISS Army logo. People offer $20-$25 for it. A t-shirt from a concert today is $50-$60...
For someone like me when I was hunting a swap meet in my teens in 92 and had zeeero funds. Would love to see you do a "find the cheapest deal in the show" on day 2. Whether it's a box project wreck in parts and pieces or a beat to hell late 80's honkin boat of a Hondo bass! LOL Only stipulation is it's all there so if put together it should work. You know the Ghetto Gig special. Cheapest dang deal at the show! Don't have to buy it just find it! LOL Maybe also the best value to dollar "best buy" Guitologist pick guitar. Same deal just give us a what you would hunt if it was for your personal enjoyment and a good value not necessarily welfare level but fair budget buy in today's market. Thanks man for walking the show for us. There's so many nice way over the top for my blood priced guitars out there at these shows today. Lot's of beautiful rare picks for the financially frivolous. Not too many nice in the hand and on the pocket book, a lil ruff on the eyes but soppin with mojo models these days. And is it seriously like not much less then 4 bills is the bargain bin price right now at a show like this???🤨 Left all the 1 bill wonders on the pawn shop wall I guess.😏 I know this is not a low end swap meet by any means but someones gotta have a few cheap beaters out there. Anyways, whatever tomorrow brings I'll be watching. Happy huntin.🤘👽
So cool to see Ron Jinks of Olds Cool amps! I have his serial # 21st 5e3 tweed deluxe built exactly to vintage specs. The beauty of the wiring and the chassis is enough to make me a little misty. Sounds incredible and the price was right. Had a lot of talk with that guy getting it just right and he sure did! It's pretty obvious just from listening to him that almost knows too much about amplification.
Interesting video Brad! Hey they were Bose 802 speakers those black ones. The 901's are the walnut woodgrain 'domestic' model. 802's are 250W whereas the 9's are 1550W! I used to clip my 300W/channel amp into them; they were effortless. Could blow out a candle from 10' away! Awesome things!

So nice to meet you at the show! Great video work
Awesome video, Brad. I watched the video that you put out last year several times. You should open your own shop. I would definitely make the drive.
Good lands! Those Martin's at 45 thru 48 minutes. I could NOT believe that the guy had those on a stand along the edge of that table. That was scary!
Me and my grandpa recently modified my tube amplifiers we put silvertone 6V6 tubes in it for the preamp
We also added a noise gate circuit and a Danelectro fab echo circuit I play country rockabilly and bluegrass and the strings I use are Thomastik flatwound strings 11sb
We also want the speakers for Jensen P8R speakers
42:25 Y’all, that is the great Larry Briggs (Amigo Guitar Shows) that Brad is talking to. That’s the mist I’ve ever heard him talk. That a great moment. The stories he could tell about the famous guitars he’s sold. Wow. Without saying too much, Mr. Briggs and The Guitologist have a fair amount in common relative to their feelings on stagflation. 😉 Larry Briggs is one of the good ones.
I have that same exact LP standard 60s behind me right now from '20. It's a great guitar.
The paul you got by trade is awsome, l'm a Gibson guy at heart and have a custom shop 60's that looks exactly the same!🤩
I think the demand for used instruments has been high since regular prices on new gear seems to be inflated over the past few years.
Thanks for sharing this with us! Lots of fun!
I feel like I spent the afternoon checking out gear with my buddy Brad. - Cheers from northern BC! 🇨🇦
Those Brinson guitars are killer
Those men from Hollister make beautiful instruments. I’ve seen them on videos from past shows.
Indeed!

Love these videos, thanks Brad. Flxth!
I had a great time . I went Sat. and Sun. found a great deal on a vintage Strat on Sunday! Sunday is the day for deals. That is of course if theres anything left. Dealers scoop up most of the best guitar deals on Thursday.
thanks for getting me out the house. i can shop for used gear or used books all day long.
To play I’d prefer the Strat but I think you’re right, you’ll move the LP a lot easier.
Overpriced stuff has never turned me on ,,,
A Big Hi and Thankyou from the UK
Nice! The Guitologist playing a Puertorrican Cuatro. My island main stringed instrument. Cool!
That was the best part of the video , yes . Alfred / PR
Another marvellous video! Thanks for that! Keep on the good job! Cheers from Brazil!
Hey Brad, Wow a lot of great stuff at the show on day one. Most way out of my price range though. I look forward to seeing what's up on day two. I also wanted to say thanks for the video on the Enya Nova go Sonic. When I saw it, I had to have one and I love it. Thanks again!
Yes....... you are a fantastic person.....honest....real.....human.....more than just about guitars..... lessons for life....
......thank you...

Thanks for the journey brad
Sweet Trade !! You did good will hold it's value at 2 k ..I got the same guitar in Unburst ..
Ron's amp look great.
I was at the show on Saturday!! So fantastic!! Had a great time!!
Well, I just spent an hour and a half walking around with you at the Dallas Guitar Show. Very entertaining. Thanks for the lessons! 😃
Glad you enjoyed it!
49:58 Diablo Guitars. I bought a used Jackson Custom Shop Pablo Santana Extreme Warrior from them just a few weeks ago via Reverb. Made an offer on what they were asking and got it for a good price. Good sellers.
I enjoyed that very much, Bradford. THANKS, and you can't go wrong with a good Les Paul.
That LP you acquired was about as good a deal you'd get anywhere, with it being in Brand New Mint condition. It's a guitar I would love to own for sure! Good video🍻
I have a 1975 hardtail strat in natural ash and it’s a really light one.
Great video. Looking forward to the next video!
That Old's Cool amp is pure TONE! Imagine what it sounds like in tune with some EQ. Impressed. Power scaling!
Man the world has changed….the first dealer…..well not sure if it’s been gone over…no idea of price…and them maybe I’ll look into it for you….what the ?
Ken Fischer worked at Ampeg in the 70's... he could have went on for hours about every detail on that Reverb - O- Rocket 😅
The original 6v6 reverberockets are some of the best sounding amps ever built. One of my greatest gear regrets is trading one for a silverface fender back in the 90s
Hello from Canada! Great video! Thanks brother!!
That makes 2 of us, cheers from Bobcaygeon.

Hey Guitologist, I made it into your video...lol...very cool. I was selling my old Washburn Stephen Davies. Wish I had been aware enough to recognize you! Good juju
Next time!
Great video Brad, enjoyed you taking the time to stop the scene and give your explanations. Good job brother man and you did good on the LP trade.
This is the land of …I don’t get out of my swivel chair for anything, not even to shake your hand ✋
Get older and you will see why. For some it is very painful to stand. Its not meant as disrespect.
Whats up Brad? Hope you’re doing well man! Sadly, most of our country doesn’t know what stagflation is.
Thanks for the footage. No one is there. Your the promoter for the guitar show now.
Hey Brad, we love your channel! Would love to meet and chat whenever the opportunity arises 🙌
I'll be at Nashville 2025. Hope to run into you and have a chance to chat.
You must be from KY, lol. Best negotiator I've seen. I think you got a steal of a deal. Nice axes and good vid
I think you may be right about guitar sales and prices stagnating. The whole economy seems to be slipping into deflation, the worst of all economic conditions.
Really enjoying watching this back!!! Great video!! I watched a guy buy that floral gem from that booth!
Did he negotiate?
@@TheGuitologist HELL NO he didn’t!! I was looking. At it -- Like a complete boss, I watched the guy glance at it - not even pick it up or anything and then go talk to the owner of the booth (not sure what he offered)…. But immediately pulled out a Huge wad of cash from his Louis Vuitton bag and walked off with it…. It was amazing. The dude was about 6”7 with gigantic muscles. I talked to him after, super nice guy. . It was epic.
Thanks for another great video. 👍🏻👍🏻
the guy on the right from the fool that offered 1800 for your strat was a big guitar player. He played in Queensriche. It's Parker Lundgren.
Their shop collection is INSANE!!!
Wow i love that teardrop Vox!!!
Sweet right!
I have a vox teardrop bass and it's one of my absolute favorites, the neck is so skinny it's unreal
Honestly on your gibson trade the 100 dollar difference idont think would've mattered to me,but it was a learning experience for me.
Great video, Brad! I think you've got a MUCH better guitar, whether or not you are a LP guy or not, and you have some cash in yiour pocket. I am definitely in the "you made a great deal " camp.
I think you made a good trade guitologist.
Ron Jinks gets my vote for best branding ever. He may not play much anymore but his amps sound pretty damn good.
The mustangs are cool but a ton of bread. Damn those Martins were nice. Every 70s guitar I ever sold was a huge mistake. Early on, the Vibroverb was steal
Looking forward to part 2!
That was a great deal!
I got a 76 with no S. I think the transition was in the middle somewhere. The hardtails are usually lighter.
Great video. That 76 strst was a tremolo model. I like the ash body hardtails too.
The power scaling thing sounds pretty cool.. I have a tube amp with a similar thing called a veri-watt they were made in England
I would take that 1981 Custom Les Paul over a new one even if they were the same price. Also that guy at the previous booth was rude in my opinion.
Agreed on the 1981 LPC too , all day , Alfred NYC /PR
For guitars, there is a bigger problem. People my generation are aging out, selling equipment, and younger buyers are not interested in the guitars we bought because their heroes didn't play them to the same high degree. We are the largest generation, and we kept the industry afloat. It's going to crash. No stopping it.
I agree.
LOL
Only stipulation is it's all there so if put together it should work.
You know the Ghetto Gig special.
Cheapest dang deal at the show!
Don't have to buy it just find it! LOL
Maybe also the best value to dollar "best buy" Guitologist pick guitar.
And is it seriously like not much less then 4 bills is the bargain bin price right now at a show like this???🤨
Left all the 1 bill wonders on the pawn shop wall I guess.😏
I know this is not a low end swap meet by any means but someones gotta have a few cheap beaters out there.
Anyways, whatever tomorrow brings I'll be watching.
Happy huntin.🤘👽
There were some great bargains here underneath all the big ticket items.
wow that Brinson Tele was beautiful... !!
Nice vid. I used to own that Cardinal Red 1966 Firebird at the 32:34 mark. It rocked bawlz, but had to move it on.
Ron’s a Cool Cat! I like that fellow.
I grew up with a pair of 901 in the house.
