It’s interesting because seasmoke was Laenor’s dragon, so he would have known her and Syrax. The dragons do seem to recognize their riders friends and family, but completely change when they get a new rider.
Rhaenyra approached Addam with initial hostility. Syrax felt that and followed to back her up. Seasmoke responded to protect his rider.

I love how Rhaenyra is so excited about seeing another bonded dragon. And Addam is very humble. He doesn’t even really brag about bonding to a dragon.

I feel like part of why Seasmoke RAN Addam down was because he sensed his good heart, humbleness and loyalty., qualities his brother Laenor also possessed. Seasmoke did Rhaenyra an absolute W and I think Seasmoke is smiling because he's proud of himself AND Addam for pleasing the Queen. Seasmoke definitely seems to be extra-loyal in his personality, he was like 😀 I KNEW you'd like him, my Queen! Plus, he's Laenors bro! I did good! ☺️

Rhaenyra was proud because she assumed an actual lowborn tamed a dragon, but Addam's Father was of high Valyrian blood. In the books it's not even a mystery if he is a Valyrian or not because Addam had silver hair and purple eyes.
@@billfred9411 and while the Velaryon family (I’m pretty sure), never rode dragons until Laenor and, Laena, the Velaryons have been interbreeding with the Targaryens for *centuries.* Aegon, Visenya, and Rhaenys’s mother was a Velaryon, and I’m pretty sure she was a cousin of their father Aerion Targaryen.
Dragons want different things from their riders as well. Corlys is just very attached to the sea I think, and the Targaryens never gave him a chance to try and claim a dragon. So he just assumed he didn’t have the blood in him to enter his ticket into the dragon distribution system.
(I call it that bc these dragons are basically hyper intelligent cats. You don’t claim dragons, dragons claim you 😂)
@@billfred9411Well actually their mother had high content Targ blood too with Daemon as their suspected Grandsire from his time on the ships with Corlys if we're going by the books 😂 but Seasmoke could've ran down any person here. He chose Addam and to me even though Velayrons themselves are only Dragonriders BC if intermarry etc with Targs, Seasmoke is most loyal to Velayrons. It's his family. Plus Addam and Laenor are both sea and smoke (Velayrons+Targeryn). Either way, Seasmoke could've claimed Darklyn or anyone else tbh here but he didn't. He ran down Addam. He definitely has a type

I think when Seasmoke roared at Rhaenyra her dad’s words about the illusion of the Targaryens “controlling” dragons rang through her head. She knew that Seasmoke didn’t see her as a queen, she was just a person in that dragon’s eyes.
My headcannon is Rhaenyra sees in him what Seasmoke saw, a piece of Laenor.

Alas, confusing because Dragons should not be able to bond without a dead Laenor...? The event that happened in Old town was witnessed by so many it's one of the points in the book you'd think couldn't possibly be a point of contention, but whatever. I thought they'd at least show the actual fight and death of Laenor in Old Town, but apparently he's just fucked off to Essos, HE should have taken the Gay Abbandon not Viserys and Aegon the Younger. Rhaenyra knows dragons are protective of their riders and also Seasmoke has battle experience from the war in the Stepstones with Caraxes definitely not a dragon you wanna mess with and make him feel threatened. Thats why she has Addam treated well he's riding a battle hardened dragon and he'll be very useful in the war because of that experience just like Vermithor.
Look what happened to Aegon and Sunfyre in the battle of Rooks Rest had Vhagar not been there Meleys would have killed both Aegon and Sunfye because Sunfyre had no battle experience and was easily outmatched and couldn't avoid Meleys attacks on him fast enough.

Seasmoke is a dangerous war dragon who started fighting when it was small and it can sense the aggression from Rhaenyra.
She noticed how protective seasmoke was being when she started approaching Addam; it was a quick reminder that though she might think she "owns" dragons, she indeed does not and they do as they please
Syrax was protective too it's normal for dragons to protect who they're bonded with
She already knew that, one thing she did get from her father was a great deal of respect for dragons. Her concern was that there may be a random dude that took the seat of her former husbands dragon.
The thing about rhaenyra is like daemon she knows dragons better than anyone else this is proven with vermithor and how she deals with him with her behaviour none of alicent’s children are like this with other dragons they only care about their own. Not to mention she has way more experience dealing with dragons and riding syrax than anyone else beside daemon she was the youngest ever dragon rider to ever claim a dragon she was 7 years old that young to claim a dragon is amazing. The others have to wait to claim their dragons that hatched with them. She understands dragons behaviour and knows how to deal with them this again is shown how she approach’s Adam she noticed seasmokes protectiveness of Adam she becomes less aggressive when approaching.
She has every reason to fear these people who are claiming dragons..the dragonseeds betray the Blacks later in story

@@savannahs8914people have. You can't even climb onto a dragon without it throwing it off you if it's claimed (meaning the riders still alive). Joffrey, Rhaenyra's son died getting thrown off Syrax cause he didn't know not to climb a claimed dragon

I love the actor for Addam. And I love his score.. 3:08 it's the perfect mix of "I'm a sailor and a dragon rider at heart". Feelings of hope and despair somehow together, it's hard to explain. It makes me extremely sad how tragic his ending is. He is such a good person in this sea of bad people.

Nope he just wants to serve his queen and be a dragon rider 🖤 Seasmokes such a legend for chasing Addam down for the Queen. He knew Addam was a real one 💯 Seasmoke is so proud of him smiling at the end 🖤 Well done to Seasmoke for serving our Queen and giving her a loyal one ❤ Addam is one of my favourites and this scene is so awesome and shows who he is perfectly. Great actor understands who Addam is.
When Addam kneeled Syrax glanced at Rhaenyra and became less hostile and we could see Seasmoke being protective but saw his expression when Rhaenyra agreed and happy about it😅

How is this war not a slam dunk for Rhaenrya now? She now has: Syrax, Caraxes, Vermithor, Silverwing, Vermax, Moondancer, Seasmoke, and most likely Sheep-stealer. The greens have Vhagar, Dreamfyre, a badly injured Sunfyre, and whatever dragon prince Daeron is riding. The greens are completely outmatched. The fact that four of Rhaenrya’s riders are inexperienced doesn’t change that. Rhaenrya could just send 4-5 dragons out at a time to conquer green territory, and if Aemond tried to stop them he’d get slaughtered.

I disagree just a bit. Addam is lowborn, but he is also aware that his father is a great lord. In many ways, Addam's initial motivation is the same as any lord's son: to make his family proud

Fun fact: through his dad, Corlys Velaryon, Addam DOES have a shred of Targaryen blood. Aegon the Conquerer's mother was Velaena Velaryon, who in the book Fire & Blood (which HOTD is directly taking info from) was said to be half-Targaryen herself.
This means that Addam is descended from a female Targaryen who married into House Velaryon. Granted, he may be six or seven generations removed from House Targaryen according to the book timeline, but hey, maybe it's enough.

And in ancient Roman times it was an open secret that wealthy senators' wives would often sneak off to the gladiatorial pits to have a go at some of the gladiators. And in-universe, I don't think the arrangement Rhaenyra and Laenor had was the first of its kind. My guess is that both in GRRM's world and in the real world, open marriages, swapping, and everything in between has been going on for centuries. It's only in the last few years that people are becoming more open about it.
