This tutorial will show you were Adobe moved the Workspaces in Premiere Pro and also how to customize them so they look like they used to look.

It's too bad they don't have developers at Adobe who actually edit videos. If they did, I can't imagine they would have ever thought this was a good idea. 🙂
Lots of the engineers are also editors but this is a big change to get used to.
Initially I was clueless as to where my works spaces have gone until I explored it and figured out. You are absolutely right when you demand that what can be done in one click should not take even one extra!! I always look for shorter ways of doing things. Thanks for the video.

This video just saved my sanity. I've been avoiding any Premiere version after 22.2 like the plague, because the UI changes (especially the workspaces, but also the way they changed they changed import/export) completely threw me out of my flow. Still wish I could turn off the new import/export window, but at least I have my one click workspaces back

COLIN!!! YOU ARE ROCK STAR. Yep, I spent about an hour trying to figure out where the heck my workspace bar went and how to get it back. Finally got ahold of Adobe support and they pretty much shrugged and went "nope." Thank you for advocating for us and getting this put back (sort of.)
It's a really easy thing to miss as the icon is completely new and small. Other Adobe apps are starting to using this same icon so I guess we'll get used to it.
I've been using Premiere a long time and have sort of ended up with a workspace that fits almost everything I do fairly well, although since watching some of your videos recently I've been seeing some of the benefits of switching between other workspaces, so I'm going to be experimenting a bit with how to best make use of that for my situation. So this video will definitely be helpful to me, especially the part about filtering down to just the workspaces you need.
Thanks. Funny thing, Adobe added a new "Essentials" Workspace in the latest Beta and I think it does what your one-stop Workspace does. I'll be doing a future tutorial on it and I might start using it as my main (and maybe only) Workspace.

This was such a useful video! One of the main reasons I stayed on v15 for so long was because I hated the newer layouts and the apparent removal of so many ease of use features. But I thyink I might finally be able to make the switch now

Hi Colin! Thanks for the video. I'm troubleshooting this one annoying problem, and I saw it happen in your video too just now. When I switch workspaces, all my sequences will often disappear. I know I can find them again in my project window. But sometimes I want to have 3-4 sequences open at once. But when I go from editing to color, for example, all my sequences disappear except the one sequence I have open when I go to the new workspace. I saw it happen to you too now, you had two sequences on your timeline, photos, and videos. But at min: 03:35 I see that your photo sequins disappear. Is there any way to have this not happen? Is it possible to keep all my sequences on my timeline while changing workspaces?
That's how Workspaces work. They only open the panels you have saved. Each Timeline you open is in its own panel. When you switch Workspaces, if those Timelines are not open, they will close. All panels are created the same so if you want 3 Timelines open for Color, open them and save the Workspace. 3 Timelines for editing? - open all 3 and save the Workspace. Hope that helps.
What software do you use to create your zooms in your tutorials? I need to make some tutorials for my students and looking for the best software tutorial software. Thanks. Also, why does the Export workspace stay at the bottom layer? That's horribly annoying when I switch to the Export Workspace, it's hidden below all of my other windows in my current editing workspace. Bug? It's really horrible.

If I want to import a workspace to a new computer, how do I do it. except how to copy to the folder where the presets of the workspace lie, and when you copy them there and then apply them in a new place, then the location of the windows is still the same as on the old desktop computer??

On the good side, the Beta has a new "Essentials" Workspace that looks amazing. The idea is to have just a Workspace that allows you to quickly jump to Effects, Color, Audio quickly without changing the Workspace. I'll have a future tutorial on it and I love it.
I stopped upgrading Adobe products after CS6 because of the monthly subscription fees are freaking insane. The latest version is a buggy mess. So the way I see it is I have two options, [1] stick with the older CS5 or CS6 Master collection or [2] buy DaVinci.
Sorry you feel that way. More professionals can pay for a full Creative Cloud yearly license in one job, so I think that's a good deal.

Dear Colin,
Resolve has the ability to float their version of the project window (media pool) over the rest of the editing interface and when media is selected to open in the source monitor, the project window (media pool) jumps to the background revealing the edit interface to work in. You can also just click on the edit interface and the Project Window (media pool) jumps to the background and your editing away. This is great because it allows working with a large, floating media window (project window) and the full editing interface without requiring 2 monitors. Currently, if you float the Premiere Project Window, it annoying stays present and over the rest of the interface, effectively blocking getting any editing done. Is there a way around this Project Window behavior, or any plans by Adobe to modify this? Thanks for all you do.
I'll have a future tutorial on the upcoming "Essentials" Workspace that uses single location of the Program and Source monitors and it optimizes the whole interface.

Everytime I update PP on my Mac my custom work spaces go away. I've tried sync settings, load from project. I don't understand why they always default to the Adobe presets. Adobe tech support sends me into the Library Folders to replace files. Is this unique to my Mac system? This has be happening for years.
Me too. The syncing feature has never worked ever.
Your workspaces are here:
Documents > Adobe > Premiere Pro > [version number] > Profile > Layouts.
That being said, I have no way of know which of the .xml documents are the one you're looking for.

One of my biggest gripes with Premiere was the need to preview render my edits which is terribly slow, OMG. Why can't I see my edits in real time like other NLE's?

@@VideoRevealed I think it’s great they’re developing the interface. And like anything it isn’t always perfect but needs to be refined. I must say I have had lots of freezes and crashes since update though.

It is possible to name 3 graphics cards.
If they are compatible, then they'll work. Contact the manufacturer.

@@mansormansori1834 Unfortunately, that is an OLD card and I doubt Adobe, unless it's an older version will even run on a 2GB card now with HD video. What you need to do is check with Adobe, or whatever you use and see what the absolute minimum specs are, then better it if you do HD video. Simple at that.

Off the record, I think Adobe realized that the top header bar is gold and a place they're going to use a lot in the future. Expect some useful tools to pop up there, but I can almost guarantee we'll also see some marketing call-outs too. 😝

We don‘t want slide tabs, new import prompts, or anything just give us the possibility to have a legacy setting man. It‘s actually not really that much of a surprise that so many people are shifting to resolve or fcpx, or heck even amc. It‘s such a shame that adobe just steamrolls it‘s user base, the fact that the testers had to „bitch and moan“ about such a minor change is just a pitty party
Adobe says they did extensive testing on the new Import/Export modes but maybe they needed to do more testing on Workspaces?
yeah that might be a good idea! I think there should be an option for anyone in there, the beginner, the daily cutter and even the feature film editor. Different tools for different needs but all in the same software. That would be amazing
I just updated, and I am super disappointed that there are video editors who worked on this project would think this is a good idea. I shouldn't have to click 3 things to do something one single button did before. I also shouldn't have to go through a workaround to get it going.

You can customize your workspace and save them with a custom name, then copy those from your appdata and share them via the given file with your students

Standard .xml files! You can find them in your layout folder inside your appdata of premiere pro.
I wish Adobe had a better way to share them.

Adobe decided to combine the graphics you need for titles and the graphics you need for captions in the same place. If they didn't do this, they'd need every more panels. It's a good decision.
