Its cool seeing Lion, Aoi, Shun Di, Vanessa, Lei Fei, Brad, and Goh retronized in VF1 styled polygons. Kinda wish VF5 did same thing so I can see Taka-Arashi, El Blaze, Jean, and Eileen in VF1 polygons too.

I would love a Switch version of this. I remember playing the arcade version when I was a small kid and getting the Saturn with the pack in Virtua Fighter for Christmas. So many hours I put into this game during my youth. Good times.
more games should do this for their anniversary. retro versions of new stuff is awesome!

I remember playing this in the arcade way back in the day, Akira was always my pick and if I got my ass beat, I brought out sarah. To see how this franchise grew and where it is now. Man, I hoped this series never dies.

Used to play this at the city movie theatre. Its taken me years to finally find out what game series this was.
Virtua Fighter is a good reason why a series should die sometimes. Ultimate Showdown just shows Sega's laziness.
Thank you for this reminder. I've almost forgotten about the game. I remember when I first saw Virtua Fighter ".. awesome 3D robots fighting!" , sort of. But it was one of my few first encounters with polygons in the arcade, and I was stunned by the high frame rate and detail of the graphics.
Oh, and thanks for leaving out any of the adverts that so many YT videos have. I generally just shut it down when the ads start, I cannot be bothered with it. So thank you very much for this.
I remember the day that Virtua Fighter first came out in the arcades.
It was pretty incredible to behold the sharp 3D graphics and realistic character animations -something that had really never been seen before to be able to control within a game. This, and Virtua Racing opened up my world back then, and really ushered in the new 3D graphics gaming world.

I didn't know VF1 was on VF4 Evo, much less added fighters from later games in the series. When I get some free time, I'm going to sit down and play through VF4 to unlock this!

Yeah, I have it too, but personally I find it a pain to have to pull out my PS2 just to play something that's a bit more of a casual experience.
DaNes200581 To be fair VF10th anniversary has a better combat engine than 2 since it's basically 4 but without evades and some other small changes but all the moves from Evo are there, sadly this Remake doesn't have graphics as detailed as the original 1993 VF1 on Model1 but at least this runs at 60fps... I wish we got an arcade perfect port 1 considering it can't even be emulated properly.

Well by today's standards it seems like the VF4 character models have suffered a bit of retrocess with the "10th Anniversary" mode.

Only thing i disliked about this versionis the character's faces didn't animate, and Kage wouldn't lose his mask when knocked down.

i had it for Ps2 more than ten years ago, and i cant beleave the ps2 had a floor less polygon complexity than the model 1 version.
So, Sega made a special version of VF4 Evolution with a special VF1 coat of paint? I would love to see something like that with VF5 using the VF2 style for the series' 25th anniversary if it's possible, I mean, El Blaze's agility in VF2 glory, and Taka-Arashi mirror matches could be hella interesting with a small arena and infinite HP (The only way of winning with these stipulations is by ring out, which give it the feeling of a faux sumo match more than a Virtua Fighter fight. Just sayin' because VF2's arcade version allowed for these kinds of modifiers)
Also, it feels weird looking at VF1 Akira without his indivual finger movement, I mean, he has his later stance where he has his fists raised instead of having his hands open and his fingers moving

Ian Bathelt The stand-alone edition was only released in Japan and Europe but it is included on the US version of Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution.

This is the only home version that had the arcade tracks. The Saturn version had a remixed soundtrack. And the PC version. The 32X wasn't as good, since it was cartridge based so the music sounded weak. BTW, the VF soundtrack CD with the arcade tracks is called Virtua Fighter B-UNIV. I have it. It was made in 1994 or something and was available in Japan only, or through import stores in the US. Now you might find it on ebay.
I have other rare games and soundtracks that were Japan only, like Xmen vs SF for Saturn, and a rare Street Fighter II original arcade perfect CD soundtrack that was part of a box set, I found it for sale by itself on the internet, maybe ebay. I also have SF Alpha soundtrack, and SSFII soundtrack. And SF GSM4, and Final Fight GSM3. And SF Alpha II soundtrack, called Zero in Japan. I also have the PC Engine SFII CE. Back to Sega, I have VF2 for PS2 which was Japan only.
Rob Krasinski Nice collection, I would recommend you ripping the audio files from the soundtracks to not lose the music unless you don't want to open them.

It's from the cancelled european stand alone disc. I own one of the 300 promo discs. ^_^

DintheAbary Sorry nope. Yeah Japan also has a stand alone VF Anniversary and as far as i know it's unlockable in the USA version of VF4 Evolution for the PS2.

I didn't see any replay options on the VF4Evo version, are you sure those replays aren't from the JP standalone release?

She wasn't. Nor was Lion, Shun, or any of the characters played against after Akira.
This is a special version of vf4, that uses the vf1 graphic style and some of its mechanics, not an vf1 port.

I don't have a ps2 anymore but the pal iso seems to work perfect on my ps3 with cfw. Now to try a widescreen pnach using the ps2 patch engine to inject the iso. Just wish i could upscale the internal resolution more with the native emulator on ps3.

Win Schutten It's using the same game engine as VF4 I presume just with the aesthetics of VF1 but cleaned up.
Win Schutten all the moves are there is just most people are terrible at it and make the game look boring and stiff this is how it was meant to be played

My bad, I meant 640i. That is standard resolution of ps2/xbox/gc Era. Previous Gen was 240i. 640p is "progressive scan" only possible with component cables on HDTV. But some CRT Trinitrons have component input, it's just cleaner 480i. Some ps2 games went to 1080i, Gran Turismo 4 comes to mind. More Xbox games did however
wexenhex 480p is what most consoles used when Progressive Scan was supported, the PS2 and Xbox can do 720p and 1080i when required. I don’t think any games on PS2 and GameCube outputted or rendered are 640p, that was the Xbox 360’s sub HD resolution

Am I the only one that thinks it's weird that Sega added the Virtua Fighter 4 characters in the Virtua Fighter 1 anniversary? Maybe I am just wantabe purist but to me it should only be the original characters from VF1 on the anniversary gameplay.

In Japan, it comes as a separate title. In US, it can be played in Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution.

theycallmejpj I got it off PSN and it is the crappy pal version with added frame rate problems, even in 60hz mode! Very disappointed to say the least. Just recently looked on ebay for the pal promo 10th anniversary disc but people are wanting upwards of £30 for it. If I was flush I'd probably snap it up, what with it being limited and all.

+Sutoraida1975 This game has no dedicated OST disc. You can buy the VF1 OST for the stage music and the VF4EVO OST for the menu track. Both pretty easy to find on eBay.
