What Is The Source Of His Optic Beams?
How Did the Phoenix Force Impact Him?
#xmen #marvel - Развлечения
The beams producing heat and flame in the movies isn't a mistake. Heat is a byproduct of force. If you hit something hard, the kinetic energy is converted into heat and light. You can see this in action in places like the Mantis shrimp, which punches so hard it creates cavitation bubbles of intense heat that boils water for a split second.
Someone was a 5 time champion student at the science fair.
Hm.
it is a mistake!
cyclops' beams are supposed to be heatless. remember, many mutant powers defy the laws of physics. the beams being heatless are what makes cyclops' power special instead of generic.
I have tried to convince myself this but Cyclop’s blast did cut the tree like a laser but I feel like if Scott was shooting his optic blast at Juggernaut for an extended period of time then it would create some heat but his blast should have just sent the tree flying rather than cutting it in half
Another example is if you smash 2 metal spheres together with paper in-between it will burn a hole into the paper.
Cyclops does use the punch dimension by using his eyes as portals to that dimension which is made up of pure concussive energy. He is also surrounded by an invisible force field that shields him from similar type energy attacks. Cyclop and his brother Havok have blasted each other without even making the other move a fraction as if they couldn't feel each other's blast at all. This is probably what shields him from snapping his neck.
Havoks energy is the only energy he's immune too besides his own. Which is stupid. Now with the Krakoan resurrections in play and Cyclops has been killed and resurrected at least 5 to ten times his power has been significantly increased and that's saying something because after the Phoenix 5 debacle he had already just experienced a significant increase in pure power with the added ability to control the trajectory of his optic blasts. That being said when the 5 resurrects a mutant a by product is that the mutant experiences a five percent increase in power. So do the math. Cyclops is jacked.
I tried so hard to shoot eye lasers that i think i made my vision worse as a child
No worries dude. I pretented to be a velociraptor so much I gave myself carpel tunnel.
@@fonztorres well dang. That's the kind of dedication I'm talking about right there 😆. 👍👍
You clearly did it wrong then
@@alancarnell2747 feel free to teach me
Lol that's awesome
Cyclops is the man. He’s had some bad ass arcs and he always gets beautiful women. Emma frost being the best
I would like to see an 'Old Man' Cyclops story. Like Logan, it'd be cool to see the years of wear and tear his powers put on his body.
They should get James Marsden back
I actually have a character that I drew based on this exact character. Of course I gave him my looks, but he is an older person with a sturdier suit because he can’t withstand any damage. There is actually a pet Sentinel connected to the black bird, that acts as a guardian to cyclops. He calls it RED because it’s a repurposed extraction droid.
An old Cyclops would be like 85. Old Man Logan works because dude is like 150.
I don't see Cyclops getting old. He gives me a dying on the battlefield kinda vibe
cyclops body was made for his mutant ability unlike the metal in logan’s body which is the only reason logan was dying. if logan didn’t have adamantiun in his body he most likely would’ve lived forever
I REALLY hope the MCU does Cyclops justice. I was never a big fan of his until I started watching videos like this & about different comic runs etc.
Actually such a cool character.
The MCU can’t even do itself justice rn
@@DJ.Generation I know, I've been huffing that copium.
@@DJ.Generation nah youre just a dumbass.
The MCU will ruin Cyclops even worse than they made him look in the older movies.
Here after X-men '97 just released
I’ve been reading X-men related comics for over 30yrs. Although I’m not the biggest Cyclops fan, even I can acknowledge the importance & significance of his character. I recognize that in Comics, Movies, Cartoons (Not so much X-Men TAS & X-Men Evolution but especially Wolverine & the X-Men) he has been portrayed rather poorly. Cyclops should be considered the most pivotal mutant. In the future he is responsible for the Summers Rebellion Resistance. His children are debatably considered the most powerful beings in the world. Due to his status, genetics, powers & experiences he should’ve been transitioned to an Omega level or beyond mutant. His brothers Havok, Adam X as well. Vulcan already is. The reasoning is that he was apart of 1. The Twelve. 2. Merged with Apocalypse. 3. Contained the Void (Evil counterpart to the Sentry) in his mind. 4. Possessed by the Phoenix (Phoenix 5 then ultimately Dark Phoenix 5. His powers were altered dangerously & more powerful Post AVX. 6. Used the Phoenix Egg to become Phoenix again during Secret Wars.
@@benparrish672 lol yep
The thing is, back in the early 1900s such details about how things worked was no where near as important as they are now.
Writers had no need to write such details because the common reader was not exposed to such science as they are today.
So comic book writers just had to think what is cool rather than whats practical.
Does Cyclops even have any fans?
@@Al-Ex-North-Star Yes lol Cyclops is not just my favorite X-man but Superhero lol alongside His Wife Jean Grey. They just so happen to be a couple which is dope. 🔥🔥
Cyclops is One of my favorite mutants from X-Men, if I'm not wrong or misread I believe the Omega level classification depends on how much a mutants power can affect things on a large scale. Like Iceman's ability to alter moisture in the air, Storm's weather manipulation etc
Was always confused on why there was never an iteration of cyclops that didn’t have to press a button on his visor to shoot. You’d think they’d make buttons on his hands or something like squinting a certain way to activate it otherwise you hold his hand down preventing him from clicking a button and he’s powerless
He does have a button on he's gloves
@@gambit_54when did they introduce that ? From growing up I remember he never had one and always had to use the button on his visor. Distinctly remember a few times were he wasn’t able to use his hands therefore he couldn’t use his lasers and was basically useless haha
On the other hand (lol) if he accidentally touches the button, brushes it against his clothes, or bumps it into furniture, game over man.
A running theory for Scott's affinity for psychics is that Summer's DNA is particularly powerful and prone towards utilizing exotic energies. We see this backed up by his brothers Havoc (absorbs cosmic radiation) and Vulcan (controls all manner of energy) and Scott himself. Psionic energy seems to resonate well with this, on a genetic level, which is why kids of mixed Summers-Gray genes tend to come out at Omega level (Nathan, Nate, Racheal and Hope Summers are all *upper tier* psychics with energy abilities.)
Cyclops doesn't utilize energy. His eyes are a literal gateway to a dimension of pure energy it's been verified by writers and creators he lost control of it due to a head injury
Hope summers, isnt a summers.
I’m a really big fan of the one panel where Scott takes his glasses off and the entire panel is just RED
He is super underrated in all my years I've never heard anyone say he's my favorite character.
EVER.....
Same! And though he’s not mine either I appreciate him as a character and his potential. If his powers evolved to omega level or beyond he’d be one dangerous good guy
Ever ever ever
He's my favorite, I grew up in the 90s and the Jim Lee design was sick, although I think all of Jim Lee's designs for the X men were cool. A lot of people thought he was the coolest character when the Children of the Atom and the X-Men 4-Player Konami Arcade games came out.
he's my fave X-men for sure, especially in Joss Whedon's astonishing x men
That’s because his wife be giving it up to Wolverine
Superhuman neck muscles. What a funny ability if cyclops only had that ability for a mutation.
Superman might have a hard time snapping his neck.
@@ptolemeeselenion1542 I mean we have already seen that if you have a super strength neck it takes superman 2 hands to break it
a super neck would theoretically give you better headspin time when break dancing.
So it might be a super cool ability
@@Danie1_l 😏
@@ptolemeeselenion1542 I guess if you wanna get a bit kinky with superman and enjoy getting a bit physical, take a few super pills
Its allways funny how is misses to hit somebody... HOW CAN YOU MISS LOOKING AT SOMEBODY ??!! 🤣🤣🤣
he have cross eyes :D
Haha for real!
I like the “power from a different dimensional plane” explanation the most
That's what I remember the beams coming from
The "punch force" dimension? ...Really?
@@BOBimusRexI know, right? Why do people feel the need to over complicate simple powers, I will never know.
The fact that Cyclops' eye blasts have no recoil or residual heat at all actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it.
The only thing I find dumb is the theory about his eyes being portals to another dimension. It just makes infinately more sense to believe that his cells are constantly absorbing solar rays and he can convert that radiation into energy that he releases through his eyeballs as concussive energy blasts. For a fair number of reasons it's just easier to believe that he's a living nuclear reactor that basically melts down every time he opens his eyelids.
I thought his current explanation was the solar absorption merely activates the eye portals to the punch dimension, which itself has infinite energy. Still doesn't explain the lack of neck muscles though.
If it’s coming from another dimension is the force even being put on his neck? Isn’t it just basically spilling out of that dimension.
@@dantan1249 That's a good point. Easy explanation too.
I also thought was the official canon after he had a taste of the Phoenix force along with the others to make the Phoenix five but with Disney in charge what is canon
Plot armor around his neck
Neck muscles only relevant if looking at a perfectly reflective surface at 90 degrees, else the blast would be diverted elsewhere?
How do you say “Jean Grey” and “the clone of Jean” in the same sentence and pronounce them differently? 😂 Awesome insight videos. Really enjoying this channel. Subbed and liked! 👍👍
Portal Eyes. Pretty cool power if they took it further. Like letting him suck things into the pocket dimension.
Cyclops has never been shown to have inconsistent power levels .He rarely has been shown to blast through anything outside of Adamantium and ruby quartz. During the 198 , Iron man stated that Cyclops was generating power equal to a nuclear reactor or equal to a few nuclear reactors and he wasn't going full power. Cyclops is said to be able to obliterate the moon and or crack the earth in half. Havok isn't really that much more powerful than Scott. According to Sinister Scott's power is more refined and overall Scott is the superior of the two in almost every way, hence the reason he's always trying to get Scott's DNA.
Even if his blasts are pure kenetic energy wouldn't they still "melt" things with friction?
Applying pressure/compression to things also increases temperature
No, that's why it's a comic book and it is not supposed to make sense.
yes
@@gamingdragon1356Exactly! We often forget that.
Yes his power comes from the punch dimension
The fact that he can control the lethality of his beams says a lot. From stunning normal people to decapitating sentinels and ripping apart concrete. Brings new light to the phrases "death stare" and "looks can kill". 😶💀
Scott summers is also unable to turn off his eye beams because he hit his head at a young age
It's canon that a villain messed with Cyke's mind. This resulted in him not having control of those eye beams.
@@nathanieldaiken1064Mr Sinister is probably who you’re referring to
Where does those anatomy pics come from?
I know the current explanation of his powers, but I prefer the simple and classic ‘he shoots stuff from his eyes’ lol
The Professor stay getting killed by the Phoenix Force. That Phoenix hates him 😂😂😂
Cyclops is my favorite
I too have to get regular blast or I’ll be a danger to myself or those around me….you know, the optic blast build up.
my favorite description of his powers is that his eyes are a portal to the punch dimension
that’s what I heard too when I was younger
In the 90s cartoon when he was trapped underground he lost his power after awhile with no sun
When I was growing up, although it’s rarely mentioned anymore many other mutants other than some opposition that has remained over the years: ( such as Cyclops and Havok who can’t hurt each other) many mutants also have abilities that cancel each other out or amplifies them. Chemically and “Periodically” Like Cyclops blasts were once said to be powerful enough to break through Magnetos magnetic force fields. One of the only mutants to be able to do so. And his blasts were said to be able to cut through various metals: So there might be some heat? 🤷🏽♂️
Cyclops even withstood writers' plots that did him dirty in comics and movies, stil having fans.
Exactly scott is verry amazing complex and deep character when writters / movies did him dirty he became more popular
@@Kam.Mak.02 totally agree hoping that in this version they won't destroy his character
I love these please keep them coming!! ♥️♥️🙌
Mr Sinister left a kind of "post hypnotic suggestion" that if he was able to control his power on his own, without his visor, he would fall under Sinister's control
Sooo has Scott Summers aka Cyclops ever used ruby red quartz contact lenses? If that was possible has any villian(or Tony Stark?)tried to utilize ruby quartz as some type of resistant armor?
That's a neat idea...but one thing tho...how in the world would he put them in??? 🤣🤣🤣
The video game X-Men Legends from 2004 feature the mutant heroes with alternate costumes that can be changed during gameplay. That game introduced me to a visor-less Cyclops outfit. I’m still googling about Cyclops wearing contact lenses.
As a child I never knew how right cyclops was.
Dreams don’t die-Cyclops. One of my favorite X-Men characters growing up.
Then they made him a terrorist
I don’t know but I remember watching an episode of X-men, not sure what version but cyclops and havoc was in a different dimension or havok gave cyclops his powers to save him or something. It’s all a blur.
Why can’t they just be both heat and concussive? It was written as both? You can’t ricochet concussive blasts, only laser.
The dimensional portals explanation is the official one. It’s in all the most recent handbooks and just referenced again in the comics by writer Al Ewing in 2016. The sunlight metabolism explanation hasn’t been a thing since the 1970s… it’s outdated.
Cyclops - my favorite good X-Man - Magneto my favorite baddie.
Nobody WANTED to be Cyclops 😆😆😆
😂😂😂😂
Facts.
Shit not gone lie when me and cousins played our imaginary xmen adventure outside as kids I always had my sunglasses on I was cyclops
I definitely wanted to be cyclops when I was a child
L😂L
So its like a very strong force push?
Cause i always thought it was some kind of lazer growing up haha
Cyclops the true pimp of Marvel
There was one episode from the original 90's animated series, where he was captured by the Morlocks and was held in the sewers for an extended period of time. He tells Calypso that he would be no good to her as he tells her that the sun fuels his power. At the end of the episode when the X-men rescue him, Jean takes off his glasses and he is able to open his eyes without releasing the blast, revealing his natural eyes.
Thats true but the show was never really comics accurate (I did love the show tho). Canon has always had his blasts come from the another dimension later known as the Punch dimension
Cartoon facts or feats can't really be counted as they are not Canon. That being said, that was once true about Scott absorbing sunlight in comics. For awhile it was abandoned but now they are saying that he can also use solar power as an energy source.
In the episode cyclops powers are gone because he was exposed to leech.
We need some fact checks and review on this one😅😂
4:21 "so even if his optic blasts were redirected back at him, it wouldn't cause him any harm"
20:45 "...his own deadly optic blasts were turned against him. Leaving him to suffer a cruel and painful death"
The comics be inconsistent
But most importantly: can he reproduce?
Cable: "Am I a joke to you?"
Exactly
Cable being his son is dope af, I hope they play on it in the next Deadpool
The power of the punch dimension is mighty.
3:17 this would be hilarious in a Scary Movie-style spoof lmao
Jim Lee's Uncanny X-Men art is still amazing to see.
Cyclops is my favorite of the x men. I like all the characters including wolverine, but was mad cyclops got railroaded. I mean he’s knocked out in x men 2 and is gone for most the movie. Wtf. Lol
Cyclops is low key crossed eye. Heat vision is such a handicap. Especially if you have to use your hands to turn it on and off.
Havoc is awesome too.
Given that we now know life/humans generate bio-photons. Which, can also eminate from the eyes.
Marvel could say he generates incredible amounts of bio-photons :)
I’m fairly sure I read somewhere that he can make his been as wide as a football field… I feel like it might be from the marvel series 2 cards but I’m too lazy to dig them out of storage to check 🤷♂️
17:15, I also have to release my liquid powers regularly although mine's white color.
Do iceman anatomy
I've ALWAYS wanted this explanation as a beginning comic book collector. I imagined many times that I was him with powerful optic blasts.
Iron Man’s repulser is similarly implausible. Although perhaps these energies have ZERO momentum until they reach a target or they gather momentum as they travel through space.
Even if he had super strong neck muscles, the recoil would throw him around like a ragdoll.
The Chris Claremont and john Byrne run was and still is the best cyclops.
Can you please do the lizard?
Phoenix force Cyclops is my all time favorite Cyclops costume
Cyclops is also effected by bullets. Got shot with a .38 by Mastermind in one issue. He lived but Cyke doesn't have a healing factor more than most mutants who are all tougher than normal people . Also he really wouldn't need super neck as a power.Likely he just absorbs the beams that hit him and to avoid E=MC2 they manifest a few nanometers from his body
It´s probably always a challenge to explain superpowers with normal down, to earth physical theories like we know them in our not so super powered lives :)
@@AllanMogensen Very true.
Scott is NOT INVULNERABLE, LIKE THE HULK. IF HE GETS SHOT BY A BULLET, HE DIES LIKE ANY OTHER NI**A.
They are CONCUSSION BEAMS, NOT SO MUCH ABOUT HEAT.
He's my favorite X-man, the power of leadership is not to be ignored. He cares for the team and will fight for them to the death even if they don't like him or treat him like shit
when the source of his blast is from another dimension, so what will happen if this other dimension dont exist anymore? do his blast also dont exist anymore?
My favorite player in the xmen arcade games
His powers are not infinite. He does NOT have a psionic force field that blocks kinetic energy as he has been hit by that type of energy. The summers brothers powers, Scott, Alex, and Gabriel are immune to each other's powers.
I think he was best represented in power and leadership in Joss Wheaton's return of Colossus after he was killed by the a virus its very wild story even wolverine explains why he was the leader as he vaporized a sentinel and most of a forest, any weapon attached to head it a powerful weapon if he can just glance your direction and destroy you, his blasts being just force is sort of boring though you could explain any heat generation with great amounts of friction.
As kids we always wanted to be Wolverine. Then gambit then cyclops
I like the theory of his eyes being mini portals to another universe/dimension where those radiations, energies, gases, etc. react with his Home Universe's radiations, energies, gases, etc. producing pretty much a near-limitless stream of obliteration. His energy storage is pretty much another universe/dimension. Even has some kind of recoil mitigation mumbo jumbo I cant recall.
Technically if you apply enough kinetic force to something it will still heat up. Quick somebody calculate how much kinetic energy would be applied to the tree in that scene within that time to completely split the trunk, because I'm too stupid to.
I thought this was settled: his eyes are a portal to the punch dimension?
That’s what I thought too
Nope, I wanted to be Gambit.
Source: an unlimited power dimension
that much kinetic energy would infact have the heat to melt or burn something as kinetic energy need heat in the system to be able to what it is, dont quote me on that tho but usually kinetic energy always generates some sort of heat and the rays are so powerfull they are bound to have heat
Last I heard his eyes are really just a portal to a universe filled with energy.
Easy, the first issue X-Men was 1963 and shooting concussive beams from your eyes was a cool power. That's it.
They probably changed it to plasma and gave him a visor so it wouldn't copy Superman. Concussive so it would kill people. That I do agree with. Comic books barely got by (Marvel almost went bankrupt several times) until lately because of movies. They just didn't think about it as much back then, as say if you are creating a comic.
My guess is he eats a lot of super spicy foods, like plates of ghost peppers and his body processes it as plasma. Not everything he has to eat but it's what he has to do. That's why they have never explained it. That and they don't ever have to bring up the fact that he never gets sick or the runs.
Scott an his brother jumped from a plane when they were kids. Scott sustained brain damage this is why he can't control them
X-men evolution
@@poodie3887 comics his parents were kidnapped by the star jammers
If his beam is only concussive, then they shouldn't be able to be reflective.
something the movies do get wrong is blast without his glasses aren’t something he can’t point with his eyes like a laser. it’s a giant wave of energy that would engulf an entire area not just wtv his eyes look at
Ummm... I am guessing to all comic book characters; the pen creates their powers.
Concussion *is momentum is kinetic energy is heat* . The only way that the power really violates the power of physics is if those things are separated. They're not derivations, they're not emerging phenomena, they're literally the same thing on different scales.
Superman loses all his powers but heat vision, but cant shut it off.
You should do Kitty Pryde next
If enough force is applied heat is still generated…so even if his optical beams are purely concussive they can still create heat and flames through shear pressure
Nice video. Pity you didn't use any clips from the 90s toon. 😢
I was bummed that you didn't dip into the post AVX Cyclops story arc at all.
i just hate that they never can capture the power of cyclops beams. visor off and visor on. visor off is omega optic beams. visor on is calm control beams.
They should bring James Marsden back to play an older seasoned Cyclops
Cyclops and Havock can't hurt each other with their powers because they're related by blood.
Was looking to see if any actual reader noticed this at about the 4:13 mark 👍
Although his power is power is not heat based. It seems like the fraction of the impact would cause burns. It may just be that the blast hits things so hard that they melt.
If the force came from an alternate universe filled with kinetic energy then the force would only come from that other universe and thus would have no effect on his neck muscles. I do find it odd that since the beams are ONLY concussive then they should provide no heat and definitely no fire.
I think it's all the molecules getting smashed together. Perhaps some materials are more prone to something like cavitation, like the explosion that occurs in the ballistic gels in firearm testing vids.
Kinetic energy can cause friction that can start fires,
Cyclops was my favorite as a kid.
love this Anatomy videos, they also help to raise that retrospective/introspective on why our X-people are so awesome so powerful and unique
CYCLOPS is so METAL and such epic badass Super Hero would will never Coward against anything yet sadly and tragically he tends to get that stupid disdain and poor treatment from many of those X-Men wannabe 'fans'
