Thank you all for watching! The SM7b and MV7 are great vocal microphones. The Shure SM7b is an updated version of the SM7 that was on many legendary songs. Check it out here: imp.i114863.net/BXyVxy
I own the MV7 and bought an SM7b. I ended up returning the SM7b because the low mids were just too much for my already low mid heavy voice. The MV7 (when you replace the stock pop filter with an sm7b pop filter) sounds so damn good (In xlr mode) because not only are the low mids significantly more tamed than the SM7B. but the mid bump gives the microphone mix ready clarity without the harshness. I see a lot of people knock the MV7 because the SM7B sounds thicker in the lows and mids but they never stop to think how that is gonna translate in a mix. All that eqing you gonna have to do on the lows will be so much that you may as well get the MX7 to save you time and have a more natural eq curve.
Dude, same here. I eventually got the sm7b to work alright on my voice (after lots of low mid scooping) but then sold it for some other mics. Now I'm looking for a mic that requires less work out of the box and seems like this is the one. I Appreciate this comment. How is the sibilance on the mv7?
@High_Gain_Pity_Party Glad you found it useful! The sibilance is about the same as the SM7B for me. Which is pretty minimal, if at all.I will say the mv7 still does have a low mid issue (which is just going to be inevitable given the proximity effect of a dynamic mic) but is significantly better than the sm7b. The forward mid presence of the mv7 also helps it have that mix readiness. I am still very happy with mine when in xlr mode, If you can find a preamp with the ability to switch to low impedance (which most do), it adds even more clarity in a really natural way.
This is an awesome review! Great information and the fact that you did a side by side comparison! I would love the SM7B, but for now the MV7 will be great!! Ordering the MV7 and like everyone is commenting i'm getting the windscreen from the SM7B separately to replace the windscreen that comes on the MV7. 🎙️🙌🙏🙏
Soon I'm going to take sm7b to my home studio as the main microphone for recording vocals, dirty hip-hop sound. I also plan to take the UA Volt 476 in the future, I think it will be a crazy mix for many years.
To be honest, the SM57 has an audioprofile that is closer to the sm7B and its cheaper. But it all depends on the visual looks I think with this one for those that have video on their work but want to save on the 400 pricetag of the SM7B
Hey so speaking of the Blue yeti how was it because my Blue Yeti X sound bad and tbh in my opinion it's not worth the price for me so how do I make it sound better until I get my Shure mic
@@JerrelleMusic BRO, I got the blue yeti x thinking I’d be great… terrible.. it’s so well at picking up everything but your voice Istg, I can hear the highway about a quarter mile away with the yeti x
I love singing and podcasting. I’m currently looking at the Audient Start Recording bundle. I’m not sure if it’s good, but it’s the best I’ve found so far.
I want to do voice over. I want to record my poetry professionally. In which I get high quality. But in my poetry some lines will go in high tone and some lines will go in emotional low tone. Suggest me a good mic, headphone and audio interface. I have a budget. under four hundred dollars
Thank you so much. For this video I used my canon 6d Mark II with a 50 mm 1.8 lens. Shortly after this I purchased and have been using my Black Magic Design Pocket 6k Pro with a Sigma 18-35mm lens. Lighting makes a difference as well. I have a godox sl60 with a Neewer Hexadecagon dome softbox. I hope this helps.
Hey what’s up Jay? Honestly, they are just two different sounding microphones. The AT2035 is condenser so it requires phantom power.. (it’s more sensitive with a more transparent tone).. The SM7b is more boomy and less sensitive but has a warmer tone. I hope this helps.
@@archiebeatz thanks bro ! BTW what are your thoughts on the AT4040 ? Just realized Sm7b requires some sort of pre amp or cloud lighter so not going for that one .
They are 2 completely different microphones. the MV51 is a large diaphragm condenser, and the MV7 is a dynamic mic. and generally I'd say go with a dynamic mic if you don't have a treated room.
I just got the mv7 and was wondering what else do I need to record vocals on pro tools with a Mac book pro for it also would like to use it for podcast and streaming
Not sure if you have done one already...if not, could you make an equipment vid for the low budget up and comers? Like an all in one vid with your suggestions on mid to low level products and software. Saving up for a better mic and set up. But for now a brother working with the bare boned necessities.
I have a SM7B and Idk man ima have to say this mic is trash. Dont get me wrong it sounds great but its just hard to get a clean signal out of it. Its always static not only thatI have a cloudlifter, a great interface (Motu M2) and a dedicated preamp (golden age pre 73 jr and also and Avalon V5) and none of that helps it. I cant use it because of the static in it. How do you get a clean sound without the static out of the SM7B?
First, Thank you for commenting. Secondly, it’s unfortunate that you have a bad experience with the SM7b, it can be a beast for the right person and instrument. It could be several things causing the static.. Most of the time is a faulty or poorly built XLR which allows interference or crosstalk. You could either build your own cable or grab something like a Mogami or Livewire XLR. With that being said, some microphones are just not people cup of tea. I have at least 25 other microphones in my home studio that I don’t prefer on my vocals but they work on other things like instruments and other people vocals. It’s all about preference and experience. I hope this helps and let me know if it works.
Curious about your cable, I use mogami, also have you experimented with the hi z switch and phase switch…finally… wondering are you line level or mic out into your interface and is your interface a combo?? Good luck…
@@archiebeatz thanks for your response I might have to give the cables another look. Haven't really given that much thought but they are just some random Amazon XLR cables so I will give that a try. Im just listening to it on your video and I would I could get that nice clean signal out of it like yours
@@watch76 yeah I will definitely look at the cables and ive heard about the mogami cables so I will definitely try them. Also I have experimented with the both of the phase switiches and that didnt work. I also have the my preamp line level were I bypass the gain on motu into my avalon using a trs male to male cable.
Something's wrong in your setup. Likely a cable or something. Could be your specific mic, but not the SM7B in general. It's nothing special, but it doesn't inherently suck or have an abundance of static.
Would love to hear you run the sm7b through your ua6176…maybe in addition, a windscreen vs no windscreen on the sm7b and a cloudlifter vs only the ua 6176. Also, was wondering if you have been using the eq on the ua 6176 and did you make a decision on the gain to level settings on the pre…a lot I know, but curious…peace!

This is a really helpful comment I was torn between getting the classic old SM7b

Take the pop filter from the SM7b and put it on the MV7 to kill the plosives. Sounds great with the SM7b's filter on it.

Do you know if the mounts on the SM7b and MV7 are interchangeable?
