Tecumseh Carburetor Repair - Vintage Factory Training Video - Carb Rebuild

- Here is a 2nd Original Tecumseh Factory Training Video I found in my archives - from the (now out of business) original Tecumseh Engine Products Company. I am uploading this to RUclips for anyone who want to see what Service Technicians and Small Engine Shops used for Troubleshooting Tecumseh Engines. The video is long and dry (from 1985!!). - but I thought it would be a nice alternative to other carb troubleshooting videos on RUclips - some of which are very good - but others are just "so-so".
The beginning of this video has a corny skit - where the factory engineers at Tecumseh poke fun at "Joe Homeowner" , (dressed with a Goofy hat) that is has done his own tune up - and now the engine will not start).
The rest of the video may help anyone diagnose common engine / starting problems related to carburetors - especially on 1960's, 70's and 80's series Tecumseh engines.
I liked the adjustable carbs. I would change cam profiles with welding and regrinding for performance, so AFR needed to change also. Too bad this company is not around anymore! Those Tecumseh engines would make a lot of power and stay together even at high RPM's.
This is from before economists took over, when service was part of a company's product. Great video.
i dont mean to be offtopic but does anyone know a tool to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the login password. I would appreciate any help you can give me!
@Lionel Markus Instablaster =)
@Zaid Jaxton I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Zaid Jaxton it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my ass !
@Lionel Markus Happy to help xD
Ooooo... The flashbacks! Worked 20 years as a repairman at a hardware store selling Husqvarna, Stiga and Ariens, I sure recognize the "I never touched it" statement :-)
FANTASTIC JLO was taken over by ASPERA AND CLOSED DOWN.
Great bit of nostalgia, and some helpful information too. Thank you for sharing this! If you have any others, please share them too.
That skit is funny af working at a lawnmower shop that's exactly what they say
Funny and informative = not boring. I enjoyed all of this video.
Extreamly helpful! Thank u. Learned a lot.
I rebuilt My Tecumseh 5hp Powersport Ohv Engine Carburetor. Almost 2 years ago starts and idles perfectly like my Honda engines. And thank you for putting up this video great piece of Small Engine history
They completely skipped over the part where you order a replacement chinesium carburetor from Amazon for $20.
Thank you Very useful, helped me a lot to service and repair my TVM140 with the 632253 carburetor 👍
This video is great. Not many people can tune tecumseh, this video shows it all
Cool classic, thanks for posting!
This a Gem of Tecumseh Engine history
The scary part of this is this is what most shops in Denver are like as portrayed in the beginning
LOL. Dude at the one minute mark must be Slippers Dad. (from Taryl fixes all)
lol!
This has helped me alot. Have a 1971 Sears SS12 with a Tecumseh HH120. The carb is almost exactly the same.
i now know how to replace welsh plugs!!!!! thank you!!!!!!!
does that make you BRILLIANT OR WHAT? YA' KNOW,,,,,,,,,THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE NOT AS SMART AS YOU...........
The good old days when you could call stupid customers stupid.
He wasn't stupid, he was Goofy!
there never was a time when you could!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The customer is always stupid
@@artaxerxes2363 where is your business, located, so that I can avoid it!
@@relentlessmadman I'm supervisor of customer service in Ohio
Excellent. How do you remove and replace the rubber primer bulb????
14:12 how to set the speed control panel so that engine is not partially choked in high speed position
Well Sir, I guess I had try to find out what a Welsh plug is and Where the Hell I can get some!
dorky, hilarious, and useful! (yeah, a little long, but it shows nearly everything carb related, and on easily visible and clean engines...)
Now, if only I had that darn microfiche card 30...
@@dagrote1 he's gotta have SOME KIND OF ACCENT,,,,,,,,,,,,,which one would you like him to have? maybe he should have texted his problem with the tech,,,,,,,,,,then you wouldn't be so offended..........are you by any chance a SNOWFLAKE MILLENNIAL who gets upset and offended at EVERYTHING..............NO NEED TO ANSWER,,,,,,,,,,,I THINK I KNOW..........
Wow. Do you have more?
ok goofy is funny but after that ITS GOLD!
So 80s fantastic
Is there a gasket kit available for a type 1426b motor?
I've noticed in small engine repair that the customer will stand there and bald face lie to you about the "good" condition of their equipment.
I worked at an equipment rental store. The rented mowers went out with a full tank of gas and an hour and a half later they would always call and say the mower stopped and wouldn't run. If you asked if they put gas in it, they'd get mad and always say yes, and you'd have to tell them to bring it back. I soon learned to say, "Well of course you probably checked that it still had gas, try pulling the spark plug wire off and putting it back on a little tighter". That was a way for the customer to save face and ended a lot of wasted time for us.
Hey! have a question i have an Ariens ST-524 1987 snow thrower with tecumseh engine 5 hp runs smoothly on 95 and 98 octane. But with alkylate gasoline runs the engine unevenly have tried adjusting the carburetor. Is the engine too old for this fuel or is something else wrong?
18:15 what does this pin do? Mine is flat at the tip :/
What type of oil should be used on the needle inlet seat, any type of motor oil around 5w-30 or SAE 30?
I started my seat in dry and it made it about 1/4" and slammed shut a door on any more movement. I swear I heard the seat say "Not one more thousandths of an inch in penetration pal, unless you grab the lube!"
HELPPPPP what kind of lube does she like? : )
Phil Yamascunt WD40 will work or any light oil
Is Tecumseh Aspera.?
I wonder if Disney ever seen this?
Today at $85 shop labor? 3 hours & parts, could buy a new mower.
That's my thoughts too. And I'd suggest more for labor and would parts even be available. I'm worn out trying to tinker with my Katrina age tecumseh 11hp and have a new generator arriving tomorrow. I've cleaned the fuel tank and lines, changed oil, cleaned out the carb and replaced the spark plug. It came to life some 7 seconds. I'll finish enjoying the video. Thanks.
Buy Briggs and Stratton.
Hell they are junk also.
The last good year for Briggs and Stratton was around 1980.
No matter they have there problems also.
People don’t buy engines they buy lawnmowers. Most would not know what kind of engine they have or even that it was not the same brand as the mower!

Hmmmm, I had, notice I said HAD, a horizontal 18 horsepower B&S, with very few hours, broke the idler because the oil ran to either end of the oil pan at 20 degrees or less incline or decline. Junked it, gave it away, replaced with 20 horsepower Kawasaki engine. No more problems. Oh, and it was built in 1976.
No! No drills!!!!
Those metal floats helped create parts sales.
Too much engineered bs.
Kind of disgusting how they portray their customers as complete morons. If the customer wants to be a responsible owner and learn how to service their motor the company makes fun of them.
It was the technician sniffing his finger for me 🫵🤣
Why the clown act? It degrades from being serious.. I won't watch such crap.
Could use the information but I'm offended by the manner you presented it I'll look someplace else
