I had no idea you were blind. I'm honestly extremely surprised. I guess I just never considered if there was a reason for your shades/glasses. I just assumed it was a stylistic choice.
I'm extremely impressed with how resilient and capable you are without sight.
My sight is my best sense (most of my other senses are weaker than average though, so I rely on my sight more than most folks)). I don't think I'd be capable of even half the things you are if I couldn't see
You are a truly inspirational individual..

This is awesome that he does not let the disability define him. Here's a man who is a husband and a business owner and in many ways a firearms historian and entertainer to hundreds of thousands around the world!.... With insights into life that are quite profound. For blind a man he sees a lot. I count myself a fan. Salute!

Misha, I admire you so very much for your ability to recognize extreme amounts of detail in guns and weapon related items despite your lack of vision. You are much more well versed in differentiating the subtle differences in things than a large number of people in the gun community and in the greater populace. I will always be amazed at your work and attention to detail regarding firearms. Thank you so much for bringing your expertise and your stories of your life to us via RUclips.

Your point about perfectly healthy people not having a sense of understanding or consideration is right on. I have been disabled or lets say very limited with health troubles for years, Chronic pain and fatigue, and also migraines that started when i was 13 years old, causing me to go blind for about an hour, then numbness, throwing up and then massive head pain that takes a couple weeks to get over. It sure is hard to get people to understand that i can not jump through all the hoops and run with the herd. People get very mean about it sometimes. But such is the human beast.

Upon seeing my first video with you, I realized when you tapped the butt plate on your "M38 early and late comparison" that you may have limited sight. I was wrong, as you have None. My Mother lost her hearing in the mid 1950's before I was 10. Family members initially claimed it was for attention until she got her first hearing aid. It squealed all the time. I learned to look, or listen for clues. I see people who have all kind of issues everywhere.
I have lost sight in one eye, service related. I have done pretty good with one working eye, except when I run my hand into something. I miss Depth Perception. I think you know the feeling. I will continue viewing your videos.

  • @trainsbangsandautomobiles824
    @trainsbangsandautomobiles824 6 лет назад +15

One thing you mentioned is not having depth perception with just one eye. I just learned this fact just last year. Heres the kicker, I been blind in my right eye since birth lol. No one ever mentioned lack of depth perception to me. I drive (cars/racing is also a big hobby of mine) and never had a issue. I read that birds use the quick movement of there heads to add depth perception due to there two eyes being on each side of there head. Hearing that, my family noted that I have always seemed to move my head slightly side to side alot and they thought it was something to do with my eye sight. I guess there were right lol

Plus try being right handed but left eye dominant in shooting. Started out when I was a kid shooting long guns left handed so I could see the sights, and handguns right handed. Not long into shooting I started shooting handguns left handed as well even tho I didn't need to, it just become natural. Fast forward until a couple years ago I had a motorcycle wreak that damaged my left wrist. I could still shoot long arms left handed as my shoulder is what takes the recoil, but had to go BACK to shooting handguns right handed and pretty much had to learn to shoot a pistol all over again.

You are humble and a intelligent individual and I do like your outlook on life. When you said "At least I did something today instead of staying home." really did speak to me even though I have 20/20 vision and I'm in good shape. Days when I am at home and have nothing to do usually get me down because often times I feel like I'm inside of a cage and just want to get out. Often times I would just go to a store and just look around and not buy anything. I do that just because I want to see something else besides my living room and to interact with somebody else besides my roommate. Staying at home all day long and doing nothing can through you in depression. I know that from experience because after I graduated High school in 2013 I had to deal with six months of unemployment because of the crappy economy we had to deal with since 08. Spending all day filling out applications and not getting any calls back for months on end is depressing as hell.

Funny you should ask, yes, in a sense I do....but since yeah blind 'photographic' memory probably operates a bit different for me than most others? I do 'see' words/phrases/numbers in my mind's eye if that helps? I am not sure if it is just something I have or something I had to learn to make/use as its not as if back in school I could look back at notes all the time or something *shrug*.

@@misha5670 Sounds like you may have synesthesia (some estimates claim roughly 1 in 10 people experience some form of synesthesia). In most cases it's little more than an interesting quirk.
However, it sounds like you developed a way to utilize synesthesia in a uniquely beneficial manner to help compensate for your ocular disability. If that IS the case, then it's extremely impressive and I suspect you might be one of only a few people who've ever managed to harness such an ability.

I find it somewhat perplexing that Misha is so informed about firearms and history while managing his disability. There is just so much more information on his channel. Thankyou for sharing Misha! It has to be difficult to pick up that much information using brail or even modern methods. Firearms have a good feel in the hands so I can see how someone who relies so much on touch would really enjoy them - even if they could not see the point of aim/impact. ...and of course they do go boom! The older weapons, particularly the Warsaw Pact ones machined painstakingly and almost entirely by humans seem really cool to me. I think a person would go absolutely broke paying a machinist to make an AK today. It leads to a healthy respect for Eastern Europeans.

Interesting. In Poland expensive things like computer equipment and text to speech software can be reimbursed by governmental agency s fund for disabled persons rehabilitation, it requires some paperwork but it can be done rather easily. In theory the same applies for working dog, but in practice however demand outweights supply, so the waiting list is long. Curious how it works in the US. I imagine it varies from state to state.
    Cheers from Poland.

"They're not bad, they used to be several thousands. Now they're only several hundred."
*Fast forward to me actively weeping at a range because I shot a full mag of 9mm hollow points*

No need for any graphics, these are great to listen to while multitasking. And if it means less work and editing and more videos thats better.

    You rock Misha
Not only you are better, smarter then all people I ever met on the subject
I consider myself extremely knowledgeable about firearms and I have the gift of sight
But compare to you I am a moron

I heard someone say that the best equivalent we sighted people have for distinguishing a black vision vs the nothingness Misha describes is to close only one eye. It isn't black, but a missing input. Try it yourself :)

I started it a bit less than a year ago. I do post commentaries and the occassional gun video here too, but it has mostly turned into my hobby channel, which is models.

Don’t take this the wrong way. I don’t see you with any disability. You know your stuff and you enjoy your shooting. I guess I just look past it. I enjoy the channel and the content.
