There's a bunch of videos of them playing Carnival and Wonder. And especially with Carnival, Jen Turner never seems to play it exactly the same way twice. Taking sort of a jam band or jazz approach. That's what takes real talent.
@@attila195 Natilie makes a point to hire female musicians and they are pretty good. Her band members stay with her for years. I expect those long spider fingers cover a couple of frets. Seems the singer is stretching out some to match the music.
The great thing about this ensemble that Natalie put together was how she let everyone just be free and explore their instruments, which is evident with every different improvised version that I’ve heard
lol People dont get how good Jen is its not just her tone lol.Jen Turner is the best guitarist of the 90s. Tasteful in the pocket Genius. Solos are the best and nobody noticed them cause they were woven into the songs so masterfully like they just went along. Dont mean to compare her but shes Hendrix Gilmour and herself. If someone want to learn how to be a guitar player in todays world you must study Jen Turner.
@@jm12green31 No bro you are and its my opinion. She amazing to my ears and ill triple down on that, Im not disrespecting song writing or players or bands of that time period by saying it.
It is a delight to listen to this music so perfectly executed. Nothing to do with what is currently there, with few exceptions. And my God that solo guitar!!
Que gran voz de Natalie....tengo el disco Tigerlily de 1995 para disfrutar de principio a fin los 11 temas y esta cancion Carnival ya un clasico. Saludos desde Lima-Perú.
They have the looseness of a 90's band rather than the conventionality of a 50's band, the simplicity of a 60's band, the tightness of a 70's band, or the electronic innovation and hookiness of an 80's band.
Wow, I've been searching for this performance online for a long, long time. I remembered watching this on MTV when it first aired (I was 22), and was absolutely blown away by Jen Turner's guitar playing.
I'll never forget the first time I heard these songs when Tiger Lily released. First thought "who the hell is playing guitar??! It's like a whole other song happening in unison"
They exist , but sadly they are Lady Gaga, Billy Eyelash and "place random song of the week singer here" Todays generation would never accept this as "their music".. I remember being a kid and listening to this when it first came out and simply loving "pop/alternative" and "rock/alternative" there was so much diversity on alt radio.. today's radio is pure garbage
They are out there, but you have to search. Have a listen to Rhiannon Giddens, Larkin Poe (Lovell sisters) and young singer-songwriters such as Eliza Shaddad, Rachel Sermanni.
Always loved this song-but Aileen Wuornos choosing it for her celebration of life gathering after her execution made it hit differently-feeling how she identified with the song…
I was going to say this host was annoying but then he says, "She's anti-smoking, anti-drinking, and anti-caffeine. Well, better not ask her out after the show then". 😆
The current crop of spandex and sequined covered bodysuit canned music ‘superstars” can’t touch this real music. I love how Natalie let her band rip on this album and in the live performances.
@The Artist I aren't actually knocking Kate Bush (or at least didn't intend to). I agree that some artists (like Kate Bush and Natalie Merchant) produce quality rather than quantity. Too much touring takes its toll on the voice, but it is a shame for the fans when an artist doesn't play live at all. I just wish that I liked her voice more, as I appreciate the songs. The same with Joanna Newsome.
I never seen that girl play the guitar the way it is on the original recording. Lmfao, it's sad cause Natalie has such a great voice. That's a good thing cause she can't dance
Wow! Jennifer Turner ladies and gentleman. Love watching her do her magic on the guitar
What can I say? When Jennifer plays her guitar, it's magic! The notes fly so effortlessly off her strings. Mind blowingly beautiful!
That wah-wah solo on Carnival and the endlessly crunchy tone...
There's a bunch of videos of them playing Carnival and Wonder. And especially with Carnival, Jen Turner never seems to play it exactly the same way twice. Taking sort of a jam band or jazz approach. That's what takes real talent.
I'm grateful for every version of Carnival, especially with Jen Turner on guitar
Jen is the BEST!
Best version where she killed was the live nj concert

@@trinidadapodaca7027 What's that have to do with anything. Jen Turner is an amazing guitar player, different than Nancy.
true
I LOVE Jennifer. It is rare to see her live back then. Soul-good guitarist but really shy.
To see Jen smile when she is crushing the lead guitar brings me joy
I could watch her dance all day

The great thing about this ensemble that Natalie put together was how she let everyone just be free and explore their instruments, which is evident with every different improvised version that I’ve heard

That's exactly what "the" Bruce Dickinson was urging Blue Oyster Cult to do on SNL all those years ago. Really explore the space.
