As a suggestion for even more niche origins to cover once this series is done, you could try to find origins for some of the move names included in the fighter tips section.
Honestly *Victory Screens* go pretty unnoticed but I really like them because we get more glimpses of the characters personalities or just references to their home series
I know everyone talks about this one but we really need more like Jokers, Jokers PERFECTLY represents the game he's from. Imagine if Ken/Ryu win they dont get the regular victory screen, they stay on stage and the Street Fighter K.O thing appears. That'd be so cool. Or if an FE Character wins they gain XP. Idk, i'm bad at talking but i think it would be cool.
Captain Falcon's Victory Theme comes specifically from F-Zero GX whenever you complete a race (Probably just first place but I think it's for every placement you get in the race). The F-zero X theme you referenced is Captain Falcon's Victory Theme in Smash Bros 64 and Melee whereas Brawl, Smash 4 and Ultimate all use the F-Zero GX victory theme
Thing is, in regards to Ness (and Lucas') victory theme, that actually comes from the last two parts of EarthBound Zero's Eight Melodies, not the EarthBound we're more familiar with. However, in 64 and Melee, Ness' victory theme was based off the last 4 parts of the Eight Melodies in his game.
Came here to say this. I think it's funny that he somehow didn't notice that the last two melodies in Mother 2 don't sound anything like Ness' victory theme in SSBU. Indeed, the victory theme is based on the last two melodies from the original Mother game on NES.
He played the wrong game for F-Zero as well. Captain Falcon's 64/Melee victory theme was based on F-Zero X, but starting with Brawl they changed to one from F-Zero GX. Once again, the themes are so dramatically different I can't believe he didn't notice when editing.
6:40 fun fact: there’s a challenge in the challenge section where the screen is Yoshi doing that pose while Ken is lying on the ground with the background that shows from one of Ryu and Ken’s final smashes
@@MrSkerpentine in the Wii U version, his classic clear image showed a group of characters doing a shoryuken and in 3DS, it referenced the game over screen from SF2 where Little Mac is bruised and has bandages on his face. In Ult, his classic mode clear image is him with the ears and raccoon tail from Mario 3D Land with ICs in the background
Quick correction / clarification on Captain Falcon's victory jingle: Smash 64 and Melee used one based off of F-Zero X's 'course clear' fanfare, while Brawl onwards used the fanfare from F-Zero GX.
@@Aaronitmar Look more into F-Zero. Captain Falcon's victory theme from Brawl, 4 & Ultimate all originate in the end-race theme from F-Zero GX, not F-Zero X. Also, Kirby's originated in Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby's Adventure was the second game, so it did not originate in Adventure.
Byleth has a great one and I hope you put the actual origins as if you don’t know you can just think they are just showing off the different weapons they use, but it is actually referencing the game over screen as all the weapons are put in the ground in the same way and order
That pose Samus pulls in her up victory was also used for a second artwork for Metroid NES, however this artwork is identical to the artwork for Metroid 2, and I believe this was done for a re-release after Metroid 2.
Yo Aaron! If you're running out if ideas for origins in Smash, I've got a lost if ideas (just in case): - Origin of every Legend Class Spirit (the most powerful Spirit in the game) - Origin of every Neutral special (or other specials) - Origin of every stage - Origin of stage entrance - Origin of clapping for your opponent after you lose the battle (?)
Actually at Fox's, there's a thing to correct, his victory animation where he crosses his arms has a pose similar to one Fox does before the start of any mission in SF64
Hey Aaron, I would just like to point out that in Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga Mario could produce flames from his hands without a Fire Flower and is as far as I know the only time he's shown to be able to do so in any game (Other than Smash Bros of course)
I didn’t know you could choose victory screens. I guess you learn something new everyday. Also Steve has the best victory animation, the guy literally builds a house.
I want to point out that Ness and Lucas’ victory themes are actually a shortened rendition of Eight Melodies from Earthbound Beginnings/Mother. Just wanted to point out the error.
Ness's victory theme origin is actually the last 2 melodies from mother 1/earthbound beginnings. And i may be wrong on this but captain falcons victory theme origin is based on f zero x only in smash 64 and melee, but brawl and onward its based on f zero gx victory theme
Two things I noticed: Samus' Left victory is so startlingly similar to the actions she does against Ridley in Melee's intro cinematic that I feel like that HAS to be the inspiration for it. Captain Falcon's victory theme is based off of F-Zero GX, not F-Zero X. Those are two extremely different victory themes that don't share anything in common. Other than that, solid work, everything else seems right on point!
Mario also has access to the Firebrand in superstar saga allowing him it to us fire without a fire flower. The reason he doesn’t in games after and uses the fire flower is because he uses it with a tag attack with Luigi who can’t use fire without a fire flower.
I always thought that Mario’s first victory screen, that you showed, was based on the animations Mario did in Super Mario RPG when he’s pantomiming during conversations.
Aaron, don't forget the special Fire Emblem victory screens. Lucina has two: one when she beats Marth, and one where she beats Ike. Robin has two, both against Lucina. Male Robin and Female Robin have different quotes.
as if to taunt cloud further, all of sephiroths victory screens are based off the nibelheim incident. the pioneer of spiky haired anime boys never gets a break, does he?
My favourite victory screens from the 64 cast goes to Kirby. I've always loved the Kirby Victory Dance and I really love what Ultimate did with the duplicates that are only there to flex the win even harder.
The research you did for this video is so thorough ! Nicely done. Love seeing the old n64 screens yoshis brings back memories can’t wait for the next one
Thanks. My fave must be Luigi. The one where he does Finger Guns and says Bang Bang, while moving them to the left and right, while moving his face and eyes along the same direction, its just funny.
My Favorite Victory Screens That I Can Think Of At The Moment Is Peach Blowing A Kiss, Falco Standing With Hands Crossed, Inkling Spinning The Ink Bucket, And My Personal Favorite... Sephiroth Walking Into The Flames Before Disappearing Into The Ashes
In my opinion I honestly think Mario’s left victory screen is based off Super Mario RPG: Legend of The Seven Stars when he hits an enemy with a punch. But it could mostly be his side smash from 64
6:54 Fun Fact, This used to be an Dual Arrangement of the Title Screen AND the Level Clear Jingle from Yoshi's Story, but because the Smash Ultimate Version is cut short, it only includes the Title Screen Arrangement.
6:35 Even if it's not 100% official, there's screenshots of Yoshi standing over Ryu in Wii u and Ken in ultimate that are clearly meant to be in reference to akuma so at the very least it had to be intentional by ultimate if 4 was using it for a joke during it's dlc season
Falcon's victory theme was sort of updated in Brawl to be more like F-Zero GX/AX, although I still like the first theme more, esp. in melee. Good stuff!
I love the Fox-Falco rivalry Easter egg. I've never noticed that because I never play as Fox, and the only time I would have heard it would be if it was in Melee when I used to play with my grandfather.
Excellent work once again, Aaron! 😃 Nice to see you tackle the origin of the original 12 Smash veterans’ Victory Screen this time! 👏 Can’t wait for the Melee video! 👍
Ness and Lucas's Victory Theme in Ultimate is a remix of EarthBound Beginnings' last two melodies, not EarthBound's. Ness's Victory Theme in 64 and Melee are remixes of melodies 5-8 in EarthBound, while their Brawl and Smash 4 Victory Theme is a remix of Mother Earth (the title theme of EarthBound Beginnings).
So small thing: that first Samus victory pose may just be original, but honestly it always reminded me of that shot of Samus in the smash 4 intro. Like that 2 second shot of her shooting the arm cannon taken from the original reveal cinematic for smash 4. But maybe that’s just me looking too far into it.
Jigglypuff’s Up Victory is one of my favorites, because it looks like she’s arrogantly showing off her victory, taunting you like that little kid that somehow managed to beat you.
I like how the FR/LG victory pose can be seen as an end screen taunt like she pointing at whose name is in first place while looking you straight in the eyes.
Video's off to a good start very first one misses the reference. Mario winding up and throwing a punch is actually from *Super Mario RPG* he does it with several of his "glove" weapons and in many of the game's cutscenes. A lot enemies in the game have this attack as well, like Booster. He's also done it in animated appearances, going all the way back to the '80s. The punch itself originates from old school black & white American slapstick, like Fleischer cartoons and the Three Stooges, and has appeared in countless video games and Anime over the years. Research is important, friend. It's okay to not know things, but it's another thing entirely to not know and pretend you're an authority.
I think it would be pretty neat to show how the victory screen originally was in previous Smash installments in case it's a smash original, like how you did with Smash 64's character selection screen to compare how it begun with how it is now
Fun Fact about the original Metroid's item jingle, it sounds off compared to other Metroid item get themes, but does retain the one we know today, in the famicon version of Metroid (I believe, I learned this a few months ago and I've forgotten some details) The background part of the jingle is much louder and is the one we hear today, but something was changed or went wrong for the NES version as it's much softer and sounds more like a background tune while the one we hear in Metroid and Metroid: ZM is what overtakes it
Fun fact on a year-end video: Ness' victory theme has lyrics! It's actually based on the final 2 melodies from Earthbound Beginnings, a game that Ness isn't from. Sped up, of course. It went, "Sing a melody of love, oh love" which you can sing to the tune of the victory theme in your head.
Botw Link pisses me the hell off. I was already pissed that he removed Twilight Princess Link, the greatest and most manliest Link. But having him make such stupid and irritating screams while trying to imitate Twilight Princess Link is what brings my piss to a boil.
Wrong Melodies. Ness' victory theme comes from Beginnings. Proof (sing these lyrics side by side and you'll see): "Sing a Melody of love, oh love". "And fill it with memories".
Wasn't Mario's up screen animation also used in Sonic's Brawl reveal trailer? There's a point where the two of them pose together and Mario strikes a very similar pose.
I really liked this video and I’m excited to see more. One thing I will say though is sometimes when you brought up an animation being a reference to an older smash game you would show the original animation on screen but then sometimes you wouldn’t. For example when talking about captain falcon you said one of his animations is pulled from smash 64 and showed on screen the original animation but then captain falcon’s next animation you was pulled from melee and for that one you didn’t show the original melee animation that it was based on. Still a great video and I’m certainly not saying I could do better but it’d just be a nice quality of life change in my opinion.
good video, one nitpick i'd like to see for the future videos in the series is to at the very least mention the victory theme for characters who share one. Even just a simple "Luigi's victory theme is the exact same as Mario's" would have sufficed to end off the paragraph. That's it, I love your stuff Aaron!
(0:30) That is actually weird, since I thought it was up, side, down, since taunts, aerials, smashes, tilts and specials traditionally only have up/side/down distinction.
I wish Mario’s victory screens had a bit more flare and more references to the games. He could slide down a flagpole, collect a Power Star/Moon, or even do a victory dance/pose like he does in the Sport/Party games.
7:10 One of Kirby's victory screens in Smash 64 included two other dancers, I believe. That might be true throughout the series; until Ultimate, he was a solo dancer in all but one of his victory screens.
Ness's victory theme is NOT from Earthbound but rather Earthbound Beginnings but the name is still the eight melodies and it is the last two so you got that right be sure to correct it when you talk about Lucas

This is gonna be a great series to watch!!
For Donkey Kong's up victory pose original game not only after completing a bonus level but also after beating a boss in the game.
In Smash 64 Kirby was the First character to have Two Victory Poses
El unico
My favorite series so far!!! Keep up the good work!!!
I have god knows how many hundreds of hours into this game, and first now discovered that you can chose the victory screen
same here. i feel like a total idiot
Ness' up victory's skipping is probably a reference to Skip Sandwiches, which makes him go quickly on the overworld for a while.
Tbh I think Mario's up victory is also a reference to his pyrokinesis he gains in superstar saga
Would have been cool to see the other games victory screens as well to see how they have changed
From this batch of victory animations, Cap. Falcon's are my favorite cuz they're over the top and always make me laugh.
“Ohh arron must be running out of topics for smash to talk about”
Arron: “hold my pro controller.”
Ness's victory theme is NOT from Earthbound but rather Earthbound Beginnings but the name is still the eight melodies and it is the last two so you got that right be sure to correct it when you talk about Lucas
Alright! Victory Screen origins! After this, all that's left is stage origins!
Always love your origins content, dude. Hope to see you hit 250K by the end of the year! You deserve it!
Isn't the Mario "shake fisting" victory animation from Super Mario RPG since he does do a very similar animation to that
Mario does a bunch of punches when he's about to fight...he doesn't wind up his fist.
7:34 the final pose is from return to dream land
8:14 also most kirby games have a short version so the smash bros version isn't shorter
