Hello, from the UK. Great review and I bought my Aiwrap for the same reasons and use the same way. I have a 2021 version and just purchased the id. My hair is fine and so for quick results the 20mm worked best. I wanted to try the 30mm conical to see if that gave me a better result. The 20mm also has a conical shape because a tighter curl at the roots gives a longer lasting result and people are always complaining about curls not lasting. I have been disappointed with the 30mm conical. I like the look of the curls better but I find there’s a fault with it. It works well on the right hand side of hair but doesn’t wrap the hair well on the left at all. I think I will purchase the normal 30mm separately and try. The colour way you have bought is very pretty. We have the strawberry bronze version here. It is a very useful tool. Thank you for your review.
Thank you so much for your kind feedback. I’m so happy that my review has some value for you. Yes some people do not like the cone barrel as it does not grip the hair into a wrap as easily as the straight ones do. I’m curious why you don’t already have the 30mm straight barrel from your old 2021 airwrap. I thought they gave you both the 30 and 40.
@ it did but it was the old style separate left and right ones. I bought the new style 20mm separately when it first came out. The 40mm is good for volume but the 30mm is I think the sweet spot. Thanks for your reply.
Ah I see! I also like to use the 40 all round my hair and then use the smaller 20 or 30 mm to frame my face too. I hope you enjoy your new ID for years to come!
I've got a Dyson hairdryer, and as much as I love it I can't help question whether I should have bought a Chinese clone instead. Still happy 3 years later though!
If it's still going strong after 3 years, that's a win! Why do you think a clone would have been better - because of the price? I saw review videos of the Shark version and people kept saying it's much too loud and it dried out their hair because the air was too hot. Also, the resale value at least in Korea for an airwrap is pretty good. Not that I am planning doing that. :)
Thanks for this wonderful video! It really demonstrates how to use the dyson and the pros and cons of owning one. I am wondering if the 20 mm barrel you ordered for the styler you purchased differs from the conical barrel included in the new Dyson ID version as it looks almost the same. TSM! 🙂
Hi and thank you for your kind words. Yes, the two barrels differ. Similarities: they are the same size on the upper half portion of the barrels. Differences: The 20 mm one has an extreme taper on the bottom to achieve 20mm all through the length of the barrel whereas the bottom of the conical barrel is has a more soft and gradual taper from 30 on the bottom to 20mm at the top. Let me explain more techincally: All the barrels (20, 30, 40) have a bottom that fits into the same Dyson machine so they are all 40mm on the bottom. The 40 goes straight up with no taper. The 30 tapers slightly on the very bottom and goes in a straight line. The 20 tapers a lot on the very bottom and goes up in a straight line. So as you get to smaller (30mm, 20mm), you have to have more extreme tapering on the bottom to get the desired size of straight barrel. I'm talking from a manufacturing/design perspective. If you want a more 20mm curl with you conical barrel, focus your hair on the upper portion of the barrel. However, I must say that there is really not that much of a difference in the end result so don't be too worried at having either one. They are very similar once the curls relax and fall after a hour or so. Even with my long hair, you can see that the end result is not that different between me using a 40mm or a conical barrel. My curls are a little tighter with the conical barrel, yes, but I it also takes longer to do my hair with a smaller barrel and my hair was more silkly and smooth with the 40mm maybe because of the size of the waves. They all look good and kind of similar to me. In the end, it's all good!
Thank you so much for your thorough description of the three different size barrels as well as the conical barrel. This is very helpful and I appreciate the time you took to explain the differences between each barrel. On another note, have you tried the new dyson Chitosan hair products - ie, the "Pre-Styling Hair Cream" and the "Post-Styling Hair Serum"? If so, what is your experience with them?
Hi. No, I have not tried their hair products. I apply a heat protectant spray or creme before I hot iron my hair but since getting the airwrap, I sometimes skip even this part as my hair does not get that much heat anymore. I actually saw those in the store display but didn't really even pick it up to look at them. Who knows, though? There might come a time when I need to replace my current creme and I'll go look at those. For now, nope! :) Is there something about them that is very innovative or interesting to you particularly?
My main interest in these products is that they are designed to give longer hold on hair styles. As my dyson curls fall out relatively quickly, I am hopeful that they might work for my hair.
These products are apparently designed to hold your hairstyle longer. Because my airwrap curls fall out quicker than I want, I am hoping the chitosan products might help.
Hi and thank you for chiming in! I’msorry to hear your hair isn’t curling with the shark. The Dyson might do it faster, more quietly, or with less heat damage but if your hair isn’t curling with the shark at all… then I wonder how wet or damp you have your hair when you do it. I am finding that the less wet or damp my hair is, the better curls I get. I’m sure you’ve experimented with it lots by now. How long do you leave the hair on the barrel? Do you have enough tension on the curls that wrap around the barrel? What’s your hair like- does it hold curls ok with a regular curling iron? There might be something that can help you get the curls with the shark. Also do you live in a humid climate?

I like the 40 barrel better. I’ve had trouble getting the shark flex style to curl my hair so wondering if the Dyson is better? Not sure. Thanks!
