  • Hi everyone! I moved to Korea in the fall of 2023 to teach English as a foreign language with EPIK! In this video, I share a few of the expectations vs. realities of the EPIK program and moving to South Korea! I hope that you find this video and advice helpful. Good luck on your own adventures!

My advice is if you live in a more rural area, on weekends, travel to bigger cities if you need or want to get out.

Hey Courtney! Quick question, now that you’re teaching 5 schools do you get the travel school bonus for each school or is it capped? 🙆🏽‍♂️ Love from South Africa! 🇿🇦

Hi! Great question! You do get a travel school allowance, but it is capped at three schools (as of right now)! So any number of schools passed three are all compensated the same!

Hi! I did not! So unfortunately I don’t have any tips, but it looks to be a great opportunity!

If you don't get to use all of your vacation time, do you just lose it? Do they pay you for unused vacation or just let you take long weekends to use the remaining days or can you only use your days off when the kids are out of school?

Hi! You can (usually) only take days off when the students are not in school! And vacation days unfortunately don’t roll into the next year. To the best of my understanding if the vacation days are not used there is no compensation, unfortunately they are just unused.

Hi! Would you is it easy to integrate with "expats" is there opportunity for that, also is it affordable to eat out a lot or do you need to cook a lot to save money

@kamerondunnuck6759 Hi! I think this all depends on location but there usually are language exchange programs in cities to help connect Koreans and Foreigners to practice their English/Korean which is a good way to find people! And I’m sure there are lots of other opportunities if you connect with the right facebook group or something similar in your area!!
As for the food, I think eating food out here is very affordable compared to the states! With that being said of course eating in does save money and is something I try and do as much as possible!

@@courtneyschapter1146 Hi thanks for answering my questions I am aware that the apartments don't have ovens or a dryer for drying clothes, do you make a lot of rice ? Could you give me examples of the food you make ? I am just trying to get a perspective on cooking without an oven.
      Thanks again

Thanks for this video too, I'm a new subbi. Quick question, are there a variety of churches to attend?
