- While cooking some burgers, our Traeger overheated and caught fire. It got so hot the paint or coating bubbled and burned off. This is a quick video I shot from our security camera monitor. I loaded the full video from two different angles onto a U.S.B. drive.
How long did you run it on smoke? I didn’t see the lid open for startup. Do you clean the fire pot? Do you clean out the pellet hopper? Sawdust in the hopper can cause this.
500+ hours used, hundreds of pounds of food cooked, 7 years of ownership with my Traeger. Not one inkling of fire. Ever.
david kranz well other than the perfectly controlled fire inside of it of course
Did it not light initially and then you turned off the smoker and back on? it would have been filled with pellets so the fire would have been expected.
Greg Pickens The thermostat malfunctioned and caused it to overheat. Had we not been there and unplugged it I'm not sure what would have happened.
KevvinB ahhh. I have never had a thermostat malfunction. So it treated it like the temp wasn't high enough and pumped up the fan and pellets?
I have had flare ups before. Turn that bad boy off and leave the lid closed. Glad nothing burned down!
Were u cooking burgers? If so my grill with high fat burgers will flare up if the temp gets to high from the burger fat hitting the flame .
Traeger’s are dangerous almost burned my house down too. I’m very surprised they haven’t had a class action lawsuit yet.
Traegers are known for this. Almost burnt my house down.
