I realize I'm 3 years behind watching this but what a fabulous segment. Susie was great I learned so much from her section. I love watching your videos thank you
Yes! Melanie Berg! I have loved her for years and years. Her shawls are classic and timeless and I love her intuitive design and pattern writing! Brilliant episode 💖
I am always delighted by the phenomenal information within your episodes, but I have to say, Andrew's wry and often deadpan humor puts me rolling on the floor! :D
I’m sitting with a big smile on my face during and after that episode. I’ve saved the second half of the interview to eek out the joy of your podcast. Have a lovely holiday, all of you. I hope you get lots of new Patreons. It is my small contribution and healthier than a trip to the coffee shop!
I just had an conversation with my mother yesterday, that I'm an "autumn person" and she's a "spring person" when it comes to colors. Really enjoyed this episode! Thank you ❣️
Another great episode. I think the sign of a really talented designer is making stunning objects by utilizing small details or relatively "simple" techniques. Melanie proves the theory!
Such an interesting episode..all of it. Your questions in the interview really brought out the vibrancy of Melanie Berg's designs and her personality. Have a wonderful vacation.
What a wonderful interview with Melanie Berg! Such a lovely warm person (her personality shone!). I’ve stated this before but Andrea and Andrew your playful banter is so much fun!❤️
Ok, kids...I had to stop before the MB interview bc I was cracking up almost crying at the both of you! Andrea, that purple and orange is to DIE for...Andrew, that stunning sweater is fabulous and will match your daughter's hair perfectly! I'll have to do the "drape (droop) test" in the future! ✌ Amy xx
OMG, Andrew's comments while annalyzing the colours made my day lololol he's such a keeper!!! I wish I could talk my husband into knitting, I think it makes such a good hobby for a couple!!! Great episode, made me want to try waking myself a shawl... If there were not that many stitches though
Melanie was such an inspiration for attempting shawl knitting, many lovely designs. Seeing the historical side of knitting and life was very interesting. Andrea, the purple with red is great, it will suit your personality. Keep the fruity knitting going. Cheers, until the next episode.
Great show...as always was totally absorbec in watching the show when what should appear but a photo of my very own Wooly Wormhead cap! Thanks to you both for that fun boost to my day!
Shawls can be such beautiful works of art. I live in a cold climate and I love large wooly shawls ...they are fabulous for layering. And, I am in awe of lace shawls-so intricate, and the people that make them are so talented. Perhaps a bit under appreciated in this episode.
Loved the episode-- so fun to see all of those shawls. I learned a lot, so thank you! I've recently begun weaving my own ends in the same way Melanie showed -- it's really brilliant, isn't it? I would like to note that when you weave back toward the beginning, make sure to tunnel the needle through the strand you are weaving in. This totally locks that sucker forever. It's amazing!
Thanks for this great episode. I now want to knit all the Melanie Berg shawls! You have also given me a much better understanding of why I can’t wear that gorgeous goldy mustard colour I love so much! 💕💕💕
Fantastic, fabulous, amazing interview!! I love her shawls and this was just wonderful. I really appreciated her tip about knitting and blocking a mini-shawl to test the yarn. I also liked her emphasis on the quality of the edge. I also really enjoyed Suzy the Shepherdess...admittedly more than I anticipated. And she uses Blackberry Ridge wool mill...a business local to my area!
One of your best interviews Andrea. You and Melanie seemed very comfortable with each other. I’m sure it had something to do with being in the same room.
The whole episode was throughly delightful! I can’t say how much I enjoyed it. The interview was great and I loved the darling shepherd! I want to listen to that again. I loved the wool slip. My goodness! I remember the color typing years back, and I knew immediately that I was a “winter”. While I like some muddy colors I learned they are not the best look for me. Interesting isn’t it? I wear cool colors and that really works for me. Thanks for that lesson. Loved it all.😁h(
Thank you (both+) for this very interesting podcast. I finally "met" Melanie and I found the pattern I really want to do: a beautiful Secret keeper, twice around my neck, lesson learned :)
Hello beloved Fruity Knitting :) I loved this episode and it's got to be a favourite thus far in your podcast evolution. Your husband cares a lot for you to dedicate both time and work in this merry, universal craft. ♡ The love you both share is evident and I enjoyed giggling along in the informative colour-pairing session. It is especially pertinent, in times where it's all too easy to consume more than we need. Clever choices make a wardrobe last. Also, footage is excellent and Melanie Berg is a dream from whom to garner insight. Her shawl designs are fabulous, and it's lovely you've had such a beautiful time together. Herein, I send only love, blessings and happy thoughts. Have a splendid holiday with your daughter, sweetheart.💙🌍🦋🤗💕🐕🐇 Xxx
I just couldn't stop giggling when Andrea talked about Andrew not looking so "fresh" and "radiant" etc. with the yellowish sweater. Just like she was trying to get him into a beauty contest. And Andrew, as a good sport, just smiled lovingly at her.
So fun and great interview with Melanie. I learned so much and loved to see and hear about her design process. As a fairly newbie knitter, it helped to make sense of patterns and rationale that some assume one already knows. Loved the color and yarn drape chats as well. :-)
I am very familiar with Melanie Berg's designs and knitted 4 of her shawls. I love her aesthetic. I also loved the very scientific drape test and the super cool yarn weaving in method! No Fruity Knitting episode without a laugh ♥
Another wonderful episode! Definitely one that I will view again. BTW, my favorite MB shawl is the semi-circular brown and gold. It reminds me of one that Jane Austin would have worn, draped across the shoulders-very romantic. Have a great vacation; I’m looking forward to whatever you and Andrew will give us next.
I had my colours analysed 30 plus years ago. its been wonderful. i can match accessorize easily and shop quicker, buy yarn in a range of colours. I'm a summer my sons are winter.
That new sweater is stunning Andrea. Perhaps you may want to go up one needle size for the yoke, rather than add stripes. I have done that, and it might make the difference in row gauge, though the casual observer won’t be able to tell.
Oh my gosh, I could always write loads about my love of your shows, but I’ll stick with 2 focuses this time. 1 - Andrew, you put a visual in our minds of you dressed in Andrea’s clothes! Thanks for that laugh! 🤣 2 - Andrea, I agree with you 100% about how wearing a shawl hides the beauty of the work, all scrunched up, so I don’t knit them either, however I have thought about hanging them from the ceiling as “works-of-art sails!” 😃 Enjoy your time with your lovely daughter!
😃 Suzy the Shepherdess! I can see her petticoat get a cult following though and her practices around her sheep are commendable! Great episode as always. Thank you.
This episode has really been fun. Most of my comments today are for Andrew although I loved both of your guests as well. What a gem with that quiet love of your middle age curvaceousness. My husband has said the same to me over the years. I love your scientifically precise floppy test for drape..so easy to check. And the colour segment, I'm still laughing at Andrew's comment that "yes, I'm far more attractive in my clothes than yours". I love history and what Suzy does but would not want to live that way even as a job! . Thank you Melanie for your beautiful designs and wonderful common sense comments about social media. Great job Andrea and Andrew. Enjoy your vacation. HUgs
Hello from the Colorado mountains. :) Loved this episode! Also, I wanted to mention a fun fact. Andrew joked in this episode or last episode about Andrea showing him how to knit with one needle. There is a technique of single needle knitting called nailbinding. It's an ancient fiber art craft used by the Vikings. Andrea, maybe once you finish your crocheted afghan you can try nailbinding and teach Andrew.
I guess Im asking randomly but does any of you know of a way to get back into an instagram account..? I was stupid lost my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
I, too, have “green” skin-just ask my husband (lol). The color analyst agreed, so I got a second opinion as the first was free. Pale olive was the conclusion. Definitely not neutral. I find that most warm colors work well. Although, certain shades of green, mint for example are pretty awful.
Please show us how to lock in the Colors on Maivember Shawl Beginning of the row I had too many weave ins at the end of this Lovely Shawl but moreso a waste of yarn Thanks Marianne 💜😀
Demasiado interesante este episodio,me encanta verlos, muy lindos los chal y la combinación de colores, son una inspiración para mi, saludos desde Costa Rica 🤗🌄
A great example of the colour theory discussed in this episode is the work of photographer Thomas Knights in his Red Hot 100 photographs. Red heads against blue (with a warm undertone) zing.

And I would suggest most women who dye their hair cover their hair if they're going to do this no matter how much they claim that it's exactly the same as their hair hair colour it seldom is simply because of washing and Sun bleaching and living in an environment that changes things just wrap a white towel around your hair or and ivory towel whatever you got around your hair and keep that off your face. final note a real dead giveaway is around the nose and the upper lip anytime I put colours that don't work with me on I turn a funny puce colour there maybe that's not the right tone there there's just a green shows up around my nose as it travels down to my upper lip in that area it just becomes completely shadowed and sick looking. Lovely, cashmere yarn. You both are funny, the yarn test. Wonderful shawls, with tips.... Thanks to all.
Yes! Melanie Berg! I have loved her for years and years. Her shawls are classic and timeless and I love her intuitive design and pattern writing! Brilliant episode 💖
When you held up your WIP I genuinely thought that you’d gone into sewing and that was a piece of fabric! You’re phenomenal!
Oh my goodness same!
Kady Evans I thought the same!
I am always delighted by the phenomenal information within your episodes, but I have to say, Andrew's wry and often deadpan humor puts me rolling on the floor! :D

What a wonderful interview with Melanie Berg! Such a lovely warm person (her personality shone!). I’ve stated this before but Andrea and Andrew your playful banter is so much fun!❤️

thanks for a wonderful interview with melanie berg :-)

Andrea, the purple with red is great, it will suit your personality.

Fantastic show. I am a Melanie Berg fan, I am currently working on her pattern Ropedance.
I just couldn't stop giggling when Andrea talked about Andrew not looking so "fresh" and "radiant" etc. with the yellowish sweater. Just like she was trying to get him into a beauty contest. And Andrew, as a good sport, just smiled lovingly at her.

As always, great and engaging content!
So fun and great interview with Melanie. I learned so much and loved to see and hear about her design process. As a fairly newbie knitter, it helped to make sense of patterns and rationale that some assume one already knows. Loved the color and yarn drape chats as well. :-)

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Loved both interviews! Love the good thoughts expressed by Melanie! And wow! Lovely shawls.
Great episode! Thx for the patreon discount...I immediately downloaded several wonderful shawl patterns by Melanie Berg :))
Great episode as always, I really enjoyed the Meet the Shepherdess segment this week. 🐑
It's back! Now I can finish watching it. Thanks, Andrea, for putting this episode back up today.
Excellent episode! Thank you...really enjoyed
Very nice podcast! Very helpful knowing about the color type. The shawls were beautiful and the 19th century shepherdess.
Super enjoyed this episode. Suzy was great! I also have knit Melanie Berg patterns so that was nice. Enjoyed the Keep the Home Fires Burning.
How cool that Madeline will be able to tell people that her FATHER made her sweater. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
