Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Visa requirements: Americans and Canadians will not need visa for Brazil. This was CONFIRMED today, April 10th. The administration of Brazil's president Lula has has tried several times to introduce a visa requirement for a handful of countries, which has repeatedly been postponed.
The visa requirement has now been postponed until April 10, 2025. (But my guess is still that it will be completely abandoned).
What are the rules to visit Brazil for an American, Canadian and Australian? After major delays and fear of huge costs the administration of Brazil's president Lula is now ready to drop the visa requirement.
As of April 10 2024, people from USA, Canada and Australia, will not need to apply for a visa to visit Brazil, and the current e-Visa system will probably be terminated.
Brazil's new e-visa has been struggling with major delays - often several months - and many tourists have been afraid not to be accepted in time for their trip.
The revenue expectations from the visa procedures is projected to be much lower than the money American tourists are bringing if they are not haltered by visa.

Official Statement April 10 2024:
The Brazilian government postponed the visa requirement for U.S. nationals for one year. On April 10, 2025, the Government of Brazil will reinstate a visa requirement for all U.S. nationals visiting Brazil, with an option for an e-visa for qualified applicants. This date reflects a one-year postponement announced on April 9, 2024.
Currently, the visa fee is $80.90 with a 10-year validity. For questions about the e-visa application procedures, visit the Brazilian government-authorized website: brazil.vfsevisa.com

Sweden has very few visa requirements, but some European countries are strict at the moment 👍

@@SwedishGringo The visa requeriments will NOT be canceled, it was postponed to adapt and improve the e-visa website where foreigners will be able to apply for the brazilian visa instead of going to a braziliam embassy.

Main reason is the bill of added ”paperwork” (know, it’s electronic) and loss of tourists don’t make up for the revenue from the visa. Also, it’s been a very problemaric transition, that very few acctually asked for

Glad I looked this up. I avoid places with visa. Just too much of a headache. Also they are a scam. Just let us pay at the airport in customs if you want a “visa” fee. But I will be going now to Brasil.

The visa will not be around for long, but I can’t say for sure exactly when they will be scrapped. A lot of people have paid that high fee so guess they’ll need to find some middle ground

There’s nothing new about the situation: Brazil was going to impose visa requirements for Americans but it’s been canceled. There wasn’t any requirement before, so it’s all just back to normal.

@@user-of5kc2fy9o: Brazil has very little international tourism as it is, you’ll find nothing remotely to what’s going on in Cartagena or Medellin. I meet a few Americans a week in Rio … so I think a few of them being passport bros won’t make a lot of difference. Also way less open prostitution.
