The demographics is wrong. That percentage is nearly 50% mixed race people and about 8% black. Race mixing in Brazil was never ilegal after slavery was abolished so we have a mixed race generation of people that is half of the population. The other half is white and indigenous.
It's not "white" and "black"
It's Caucasian and Sub Saharan African or congo-african which is where most afro-brazilians are from
And the percentage is :
47% non mixed Caucasian/European
43% mixed European and indigenous
8% African
0.5% indigenous...
47% mixed/brown (PArdo)
43% white
8%black
@@grandetristesse2.060 basically what I said. In Brazil we don’t break it down the same way as in the US. Race in Brazil is perceived differently. In Brazil we measure race by skin colour and not who your ancestors were. Race is not ethnicity. Which is why some people who are considered white in Brazil are not considered white in the US. Because “latino” is not a thing in Brazil since we’re all latinos there.

Number 40 is about some indigenous tribe, no one in Brazil does this kind of shit except for a tribe in the middle of the Amazon, besides this ant only exists in the Amazon and 80% of the population lives near the coast, very far from the Amazon. There are several things wrong but I preferred to talk about this one because he says "Brazilian boys" as if all Brazilians do this, when it is just a custom of an isolated indigenous tribe in the Amazon. It's the same thing as saying that "American boys" need to eat at Mcdonald's every day to become adults, it doesn't make any fucking sense. 43 another very relevant error, the nation with the most black people outside of Africa is the United States which has around 14% of the 330 million black population, in Brazil the black population is 8% of 210 million, so it is a simple calculation to understand. In Brazil, around 49% consider themselves "pardo", a mixed race person, not too white to be white and not too black to be black. And around 41% consider themselves white. Brazil is extremely mixed, there have never been prohibitions or divisions of people of different races in relating and having families and this is the case to this day. Another gross mistake is to say: "The Amazon is the lungs of the World", no, no, that's crazy, all the trees in the world, not just in the Amazon, correspond to around 30% of the oxygen, and the sea plants in the ocean correspond to around 70%... Another thing that doesn't make any sense. 54, interestingly Pelé is in this vertical cemetery.

45:40 - Yes, we build these things here. We have one of the largest technology industries here in Brazil, including aerospace. iPhone is expensive here because we don't have favorable trade agreements between Brazil and the United States, because Americans think we live in the woods. This percentage of 56% of Brazilians identifying as black is wrong! In the last census (2022) 45.3% of people identified as pardo (mixed race, which can be white+black, white+indigenous, indigenous+black, etc.) 43.5% identified as white, 10.2% identified as black, 0.6% as indigenous and 0.4% as East Asian. So, in fact, only about 10% of Brazilians are black. The number is around 50% if we consider pardo people as black too, but it is complex, because the majority of pardo people also have European ancestry, and many of them share more traits of European ancestry than black ancestry. The IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) places pardo people in the same group as black people because the majority of them have some degree of black ancestry, some more than others.
true, and the pardo percentage is probably even bigger than that.
About number 26. You have no idea of Brazilians' ability to make fun of everything. Mark Zuckerberg even blocked Brazilians on Facebook for making fun of them in the comments. If you think a Bin Laden bar is crazy, we have a singer called MC Bin Laden.
"Singer" hahaha
07:05 no guys, that way you said before it's right, that guy from the other video tought you wrong, there's many accents in Brazil and speak the "de" as in spanish is also right, but "djay" is so so wrong, no one in Brazil speaks like that
yeah, most accents say "Rio THE janeiro" (with the spanish "de"), only cariocas (people from Rio de Janeiro) say "Rio d'jy Janeiro".
In Brazil exists eletronic industries, manufacturing computers, for exemple. Exist a large numbers of tecnical assistente too But, These types of products are majority imported and the taxes are expensive.
even for apple products, we have apple stores here
Furthermore, there is a Foxconn/Apple factory in Jundiaí/SP. However, there are very high taxes in Brazil, which make it, for example, cheaper to buy an iPhone in the USA, paying for a round-trip ticket, plus hotel accommodation, than buying a product manufactured in Brazil, plus national taxes.
He's correct, France has 12 time zones. They have territories in 5 continents.
A few notes about Brasil and bin laden:
In the late 90’s/early 2000’s there was a comedy tv show called “casseta & planeta” where was a segment called “cafofo do osama” (osama’s crib), which was a parody that osama bin laden was a refugee living in a favela and married a brazilian. If you look it up, don’t consider the black face pls
currently on the national big brother show (big brother Brasil) there is a contestant called “mc bin laden” who is a funk singer from São Paulo.
Preach!!! I'm hoping that they see your comment ^^

I really think that nº 57 is wrong, coffee in Brazil is widely consumed, I know people from all regions of Brazil and there is no shortage of coffee in anyone's house.
I agree!
Actually, when we have a "s" in between vowels in portuguese, we pronounce it with the sound of "z"
so Brasil is actually pronounced with a Z sound.
Another interesting fact about Brazil in relation to the USA:
Did you know that the state of New York, which at the time was still called "New Amsterdam" was founded by Brazilian refugee immigrants together with the Dutch who were expelled from "New Holland" by the Portuguese and Brazilians in the 17th century in which the place was once a large Dutch colonial conglomerate in northeast Brazil?
Yes, they were from Recife.
83 - No way that's true! we have production for all "i-stuff" here...the thing is that the prices are insane, so many people prefer to buy them in US, so the warranty doesn't work for those devices.
Now, about technology...man, we have factories for all kinds of electronics. Apple uses a third company (Foxxconn) for their products, just as Xiaomi and Dell. He have Samsung, Motorola, JBL, AOC, AIWA Lenovo, Nintendo, etc.etc... (however, Canon, Nikon and Sony closed their doors around here) Sony still produces devices and also we have production of Xbox, but through other companies.
.. off course we build laptops and phones and DSLR cameras and cars and planes and submarines and particles accelerator here, we are not monkeys,.. but just the brand Apple is much more expensive. this video is very shallow and it has much more wrong stuff than Geography Now video.

About the last fact, in reality dilma did took a few loams but all other presidents also did. She was impeached more because she got no allies (and the responsible for moving the process (in USA it would be the house speaker)
after her vice-president (whom was unling to collaborate with the "legal" coup) took the presidency congress passed a law to make her "crimes" legal.
which, in turn wasn't necessarily illegal before. The acts were like, "regulated"...
Number 40 is a custom of a remote tribe. The custom was not usual even among the indigenous tribes, much less among the population.
So it's weird when he said "brazilian boys".
It would be like saying "American boys don´t use electricity and this and that" when talking about the Amish. (or just think instead of some local custom by some indigenous American people)
Football is really a national passion, even though some people do not like it, in the world cup the hole country stops to watch the games but the samba stereotype does piss off a lot of brazilians because it's mostly a Rio and São Paulo thing, the other regions have their own traditions for carnaval (frevo, axé, etc)
The Bin Laden bars happened because, after the 9/11 we had news about the US army looking for Bin Laden everywhere for months. Then a comedy TV Show started saying that Osama had a crib (It was literally called "Osama's Crib") in Rio and that he was staying there the whole time, enjoying the beach. They made a whole set of it too. 🤣🤣It was on for weeks, small takes of 2 to 5 minutes max during that comedy show. It was a lamer version of SNL in my opinion, but that Bin Laden sketch was awesome. LMAO

In fact, Apple electronic products are not built in Brazil, but we have several other brands that have assembly companies here. This does not mean that we do not have maintenance or assistance from Apple.
Fun fact, in old Portuguese, Brazil is written with Z not S. This S thing came with a reform of the language in the begining of the 20th century.

About the coffee thing: while the best grains are exported we still have a coffee consumption culture! Breakfast is literally called "morning coffee" (café da manhã), with a companion afternoon coffee (café da tarde). A lot of restaurants also offer a small cup of coffee for free after lunch. I think our cups are just smaller and our coffee stronger
Têm muita informação errada no video que vocês reagiram 😄
the women's vote stuff at 30:13 is just wrong.
Femine vote was universally allowed in 1932, not 1946.
Before that, still in the 20s, some women would vote but they had to sue the state for it.
1932 seems too late, but for comparisson
USA - 1920
UK - 1928
France - 1944
Italy - 1945
Germany - 1918
Spain - 1933
Sweden - 1919
Russia - 1917
Mexico - 1953
Argentina - 1947
Belgium - 1948
so you see... the way this video brings this fact, it seems that it was so late compared to the rest of the world.
But in fact, Brazil allowed female suffrage BEFORE France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Belgium and probably several other western European countries.
In number 37, it is worth remembering that this number of people was estimated and there was no confirmation of its veracity, as in other major events.
Not long ago there was a gathering on Av. Paulista in São Paulo, which is approximately 1 km, where it was said by the organizers that there were close to 750 thousand people, but a study by a local university (USP - University of São Paulo) using a method with AI (Artificial Intelligence) showed that there should be a total of 185 thousand people in the place, so this number of 3.7 million people on Copacabana beach in this show may be greatly overestimated.
There are important facts not given: 1) there is a 13o salary in December 2) there is a full month or larger, full paid, to mother with newborns 3) the medical universal service SUS is free, even for cancer treatment, also free for tourists and illegal imigrants 4) the work vacancies last for 30 days, full paid 5) there is 10 or more holidays per year 6) the best universities are public and free, the student pays nothing 7) a lot of medicins (diabetes, hypertension, psichiatric drugs) are freely provided by SUS 8) if a divorced guy does not gives money for his kids, up to 1/3 of his salary, he goes to prision without possibility of fiance.
The Bin Laden bar part was too much for the Americans. 😂
when he talks about brazilian cities with over 1 million people, those are MUNICIPALITIES populations.
the concept of city may differ from country to country. In some countries, cities are almost synonym to metropolitan area, that is, extrapolating the municipal borders.
When considering contiguous urban area populations, the rankings change. Porto Alegre becomes 4th or 5th for example, with almost 5 million people.
man i doesnt get my laptop or my cellphone in usa, i get it here. We are not monkeys, we have stores, cities, internet, tecnology

Brazil have 4 time zones and the time zones of France are due to its colonies

Interesting facts about Snake Island. It is on the south coast of São Paulo. The snakes are classified as "Jararaca ilhoa". Through the process of adapting to living on an island, they developed a stronger venom than common pit vipers, as they needed to prey on birds. (jararacas are the snakes that cause the most accidents with humans in Brazil) In the past, the lighthouse located at the top of the island needed to be activated manually. Then the family of the person responsible moved to the island. After a while, the lighthouse stopped being activated and the navy went to the location, and found the entire family dead, because there were several snakes in the house. Since then, the Lighthouse has been automated. And you cannot disembark on the island without authorization from the Navy.

Another interesting fact about Brazil in relation to the USA:
Did you know that the former Emperor Dom Pedro II of the former Empire of Brazil almost became Emperor of the USA in the mid-19th century through popular American votes at the time who were fed up with Abraham Lincoln's presidential system?
a lot wrong information
the geograf guy is amazing but he is wrong about 'Rio Jay Janeiro', in portuguese the letter 'D' have the sound of 'THE' in english, so you guys can say RIO THE JANEIRO, sounds 99% right
yeah yeah, Norway won 1 friendly game and 1 match in the 1998 world cup. We very rarely play against Norway. We haven't played against them in almost 20 years. Generally Brasil doesn't put all of their main players in friendly matches and in the 1998 world cup match, Brasil had already won 2 matches in the group phase so the coach played with the reserves, because Brasil's spot in the round of 16 was already guaranteed, so there was no reason in risking the physical integrity of the main players.
Awesome video, you guys are amazing, thank you!
#84 - Electronics are really expensive in Brazil due to taxes, however, they are assembled and some are produced in the country, with a good number of them coming from Zona Franca de Manaus. In fact, most of the imported equipment has to go there to adapt products according to Brazilian laws, communication standards, and Portuguese instructions. Additionally, there are plenty of authorized stores from Apple, Samsung, and others where you can fix your devices.

About the "56% identify as black" is wrong. Here in Brazil we have an "other race" where a person is too black to be white and too white to be black. They are called Pardos. They are a mixture of blacks, whites and indigenous people and there are a large number of them here in Brazil. The video probably associated the Pardos with black people.

Apparently the Bin Laden bar got you exactly on their goal: laughing out loud! Brazilians have a weird, intense, hilarious sense of humor. As they say themselves, "I'll lose a friend, but I won't miss a joke."

Terra Encantada is no more. The park abandoned attractions where all demolished, already. But they were there, standing still for over 10 years, after the park shutted down in 2010. And even so it was almost abandoned already, it never got "completed", it was always looking like something that was still under construction until the very end, with many of the attractions closed due to lack of maintainecement 😅
I'm Brazilian and I have a curiosity for you. In fact, a recent survey detects that there are 144 registered places with the name "BAR DO OSAMA" (Osama's Bar) or "BAR DO BIN LADEN" (Bin Laden's Bar) in Brazil. In this research, no variations were recorded such as "Osama's Cave", "Osama's Cabin", etc.
Personally, I really like one of these bars close to home called "Cafofo do Osama" (Osama's cozy place)
The name is written Brasil, but it is actully pronounced "Brazil", because in the language rules every "S" that comes after a vowel sounds like a "Z"
So it’s actually pronounced as Brasil, according to Portuguese phonemic rules.
@@patinho5589 it's pronounced Brazil, but written "Brasil"

about BinLaden, there was a comedy show in Brazil where BinLaden was married to a stereotypical brazilian black woman and lived in the dog's house on the lawn of the White House. The show was called Casseta & Planeta.

43.5% white

The change on Capital, from Rio de Janeiro to Brasilia was an strategic one. 1st: The population was mainly concentrated in the coast, and bringing the capital to the middle of the country encouraged a expansion to the west and boosted the economy in the region. 2nd: to prevent naval atacks on the capital such as "Batalha do Rio de Janeiro" in 1711 when french privateers kidnapped the city and asked for a ranson to the portuguese crown, which them payed.

My brother works for a company that fixes Apple devices here.
Hi, I'm a researcher here in Brazil, I study penile cancer and yes, penile cancer is quite common here, especially in the north/northeast of Brazil, but this is not directly linked to having sexual relations with animals, they are a set of factors that lead men to have penile cancer, among them is also the lack of intimate hygiene, multiple sexual partners, not using condoms at the time of the act, and because the region with the highest rates is a very hot region, the majority of patients with penis cancer they work on farms under the sun and spend all day working in the hot sun, many of them are elderly and have the mentality that if they touch their penis to clean it properly they will no longer be men (ahha this thought is a bit crazy but they think so). And also, as they live far from the big city, they have this culture of having sex with animals and for them it's super normal, many are forced to do this type of practice from a young age so they can become "men", but this type of behavior has decreased. practice over the years and just to remember, in Brazil this type of practice is a crime (zoophilia). Many of these patients live far from urban areas and have limited access to public healthcare, so they only seek hospitals when the disease is already advanced, many of them are aged 50 or over.

The thing about putring your hands in a thing full of ants only happens among indigenous cultures. Most of brazilians dont even know it exists.
Tem um cantor brasileiro chamado mc Bin Laden e atualmente ele está no reality show Big Brother Brasil 24 .
Fire ants are the most painful insects in the world. The Indigenous people make a type of glove, where they trap 50 to 100 ants with their stingers inside. In this ritual, they put this glove on the Indigenous man who will become an adult, and dance with him for a few minutes. Only after this ritual, do they take off their gloves and pass them on to a new man. To give you an idea, a reporter put on a glove with just 3 ants, after being stung, he removed the glove screaming, the pain lasted 24 hours and he vomited a few times due to the pain.
Of course that in Brazil we make a lot of electronic devices like laptops, smartphones and many more, from many famous brands. The problem is with Apple.
