The Octa-Switch has been around forever. Sure it might not be as advanced as the G2/G3 that the boys at That Pedal Show are doing, but these are SOLID switchers. :)
This is exactly what I'm looking for . . . except one with a MIDI input, as well, so my DAW can switch it. Maybe they'll add that functionality in the future. Good to know this tech is becoming available.
I have the octaswitch 2 And it’s been a game changer on my ever expanding paddleboard. It’s mechanical dip switches are easy to use and less confusing, as this would be a perfect situation for a first switcher and you’ll never go back… You’ll thank me later… Keep on rockin…
I have the original version of the Octa-Switch. This new version’s footprint is about half as wide, and there are considerably more features. Will have to check it out.
Fantastic demo as usual ! Did you try octaswitch with Neunaber Illumine in midi ? Is it possible to assign a preset of the Illumine to each switch of the strip ?
I have the MK1 and it’s solid. I like how you Can easily change the loops of each preset on the fly with the DIP switches. Only problem is the MK1 is huge!
Very cool and diverse unit Pete. Thanks! One thing I did not see unless I missed it...a lot of these switcher/loopers have a Tuner output so you can mute your rig and tune up without everyone hearing you, then click off of it. I see there is a "Bypass/Mute" button, but don't see a Tuner output. Is this capability included in this unit? I'll have to pull the manual and check. Gotta get one of these units, but not happy with the cost. I think all electronics and micro-controlled, a unit like this could be had for $250-300 rather than $500...yikes!
@@axkmster look at the boogie "midi matrix". I think it does what we want, but someone smarter than me will have to figure out if that box can talk to this one lol
I’d really love to learn how you programmed automatone midi with the switches! Update: Seeing his video, I got myself one but not the strip, octa switch 2, which unfortunately didn’t come with midi, a good option i’d like to have!
Pete, There is one thing I'd like to do and I suspect the Octa-switch won't support it. Please let me know if I understand correctly. I presently have a wet/dry variant with two amps (but without a switcher yet). The thing I need a switcher for is to put some pedals to amp 1 and others to amp 2. Is there any way I can do that with an Octa-switch or is there a better one to do this. thanks!
So on this unit there are only 8 presets available, correct? If you're playing a set of 30 songs, you would have to use 8 presets for the whole show (excluding anything midi)? Just trying to make sure I've got this grasped...working toward getting my first switcher.
man amazing!, question, i have a blackstar amp which has an "stereo" jack for the pedal swtich cause it controls the voice and clean dirty channel, how can i wire that? since the amp has just 1 hole for controling voice and channel
Leave it to the Danes to make it simple. I love that it doesn't have an LCD screen. The guys I work for would be merciless if I brought an LCD on stage with them... brutal. LOL
Hi Pete. ive been trying to research if my Rocktron Intellifex will work with an Octa switch the strip but not finding anything. do you know if that is possible?
No one has seems to mention what I’ve been wondering. Halfway through this one, but I don’t think he is going to either, ha ha. How many pedals can be used with this switcher? I would imagine each loop doesn’t mean one pedal. Which would leave just eight pedals. Seems pretty limiting, so probably not. Or perhaps, each loop could four or five pedals needed for that #1 patch/foot switch? Thanks! 😝🤘🏻🎸🇺🇸
Since jack cables are getting bigger than the pedals, I'd love to see a strip that allow you to stack the pedals together, power them, without those big jacks in the way.
Hi Randy, no units like this generally speaking when you turn the loops on and off they by their design will cut off the signal. You’re switching the loop right out of the signal path.
@@PeteThorn yep I was thinking of asking the same thing. But that is the give and take of keeping a switcher simple. No delay or reverb spill over trails due to its simplicity of switching loops on and off. A Boss ES-8 is more sophisticated and can achieve the spill over seamlessly but you need to really dig into the menus to set the parameters correctly (carry over and patch change delay set to 0 ms). For some guitarist, all that digital control stuff is too much and they don't care about fx spill overs...then this carl martin is for them. I personally love delay and reverb trails when I switch...so I'll stick to those spillover fx switchers. cool vid bro🤘🏼
this is exactly what i need to make life easy and clean switching. i plan on using a two notes torpedo captor x. i'd like one preset for my clean, with the compression and light reverb from the captor. but for drive, i want no compression or reverb from the captor, and switch the channel on my amp to the od channel. this looks possibly capable. i also have pedals, but this is solving the captor x needs. quick question, can i come out of the capto and back to pedal board and through a tap/stereo delay before off to desk?
Can this be used to control three-channel amps? The dip-switches only have two selections. This would be the answer to my hopes if it could (The Boss ES-5 is needlessly complicated for what I do).
It’s possible. I’m not sure. You might need to use two of the switching jacks- Going to a TRS cable. Like 2 mono quarter inch to TRS. Or if your aunt has some other type of foot switch jack might need a custom cable
@@PeteThorn Thanks, Pete! My BE-100 Deluxe has a single TRS cable that goes from the amp to the switch. Maybe some sort of Y-cable with two mono on one end going to TRS at the amp... ?

pete i watched your helix video way back on the tim + pete show and it changed my mind about multi-effects pedals... i totally understand the need here, but helix just seems more.... modern? flexible? less cable-y?
But you still have players of course that preferr a few individual pedals! Different products for different purposes. Although the helix does allow you to use a few pedals in its loops. Carl Martin is more for the all-analog true bypass aficionados
why would you buy this unit over the musicomlab, rjm, boss, or morningstar offerings? feels like an inferior product and wish we got some of that insight beyond just the overview of features. how does this thing stack up to other options? is it actually worth it?
Hi Ben There are a few things, simplicity, the instant access, the 4 Ext switches, true bypass using gold relays so that you can run say 8 guitar to two amps, or say one guitar to 8 amps and anything in between. But most important no menus, very easy to set-up and use.
Respectfully, you do recognize that Carl Martin asked me to demonstrate this product- not to compare it to every other switcher on the market...? This is a demo I’m making for a company, not a head to head comparison of every switcher out there
