    Great detailed video! One thing i would add is to check the breather valve on the diff 9 times it of 10 a clogged breather caused the seals to leak in the first place. Clean your breathers or extend it up to the fuel fill door if you off road.

      There’s videos on that. Check timmythetoolman here on RUclips. Blew my rear right seal because the breather cap was clogged from dirty water over the years.

    Hi Brian,
    I don't know if you will ever read this but I just wanted to tell you that this is the first time in 15 years I have ever watched and completed a video on RUclips from start to finish let alone that it's a hefty 30 min + video. This was a complete breath of fresh air having the pleasure to watch such thorough and insightful explanation of doing such disassembly. I was looking for videos on how to replace brakes on a 4Runner and I'm beyond glad I came across your channel.
    Lastly, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience and thank you for doing it in such respectful, reverent and precise manner.
    You have earned my absolute respect

    Great video! I changed one thing that saved alot of headache and money. Since there is a gap between the abs ring and the outer keeper, you have just enough room to get the snap ring free with a decent pair of snap ring pliers and a pry bar. You can then press out the bearing, abs ring, and both keepers without having to cut/replace anything.

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  7 лет назад

      Mitchell Mize I'll give it a try next time. Thank you!

      @matts_.4494 7 лет назад +1

      Nice work, I was sure that Toyota didn't intend for folks to cut that abs ring. So I knew there was away Thanks for bringing it to our attention. The only other problem that you might run into is that some of these axle press tools that bolts to your backing plate and hangs in your press, are too small in internal diameter to fit over the ABS ring.. The tool costs upwards of $300, So make sure it fits your application.

    Awesome! Thanks so much for this video! i was just watching another video but once he got the axle out he just said "the bearings need to be done at a machine shop" well considering i bought myself i press specifically to do this job i was bummed...until i found this video! Now i just need to get out the welder and fabricate that tool that almost looks like an axle housing! Just an amateur here who would rather spend the money on tools than pay for labor...plus i was thinking i would press a few AK receivers since i bought a press and all...lol thanks again for this.

    Great video, it's been so long since I serviced drum brakes that section sure helped me a lot.
    I tried the pipe hammer tool & couldn't move the bearing down no matter what so I used the press I needed to remove the bearing as the other removal trick didn't work either (slamming the splined axle end into a piece of wood on the ground while holding the backing plate)Maybe my assembly was set up too tight from the factory,mine is a four wheel drive if that makes a difference, anyway good instruction!

    I have a small oily residue on my parking brake adjuster. The wheel doesnt to wobble so its not the bearing. How bad of a leak should it be before I worry?

    • @frankmaggio4328
      @frankmaggio4328 3 года назад

      The wheel doesn't have to wobble for it to a seal. Once it wobbles the bearing is bad. Just have to loose enough fluid to kill the bearing. I just found the rear driver side brake was saturated in gear oil.,I'm doing both bearings and seals since I don't inonow how long it's been leaking. May have just started but since I want to travel out of state it's better to have piece of mind. Fix any leak before $100 turns into $1000!

    Great video. Unfortunately the shop that installed the new bearings seems to have bent the bolts that connect from hub to axle. Can they be replaced? I cannot simply slide the bolts through the four holes on the outer part of the axle. They no longer line up correctly.

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  6 лет назад

      stiffmeister0hYeah I would check with your parts supplier if you can get the bolts. I do know you can knock them out one at a time and they press into the backing plate kind a like a wheel stud.
