  • The action camera debate has never been hotter than it is right now. With at least two solid brands and multiple camera options it's tough to know where to start. To make things worse, once you actually settle on a camera, there are WAY too many settings to figure out.
I've been on the GoPro train since the Hero 4 so for me I just stick to what I'm the most comfortable with. In this case that has lead me to the new GoPro Hero 12 for all my "action" oriented filming needs.
The highest quality point of view shot has always been the goal. For my mountain biking application with the Hero 12 I have narrowed down my field of view options to three different "modes" or "settings."
    Hyperview (standard lens)
    Max Superview (max lens)
    Max Hyperview (max lens)
There are pros and cons to each and in this video you get an example of each. Let me know what you think is the best view!
Filmed at the WinMan Trails in Northern Wisconsin. www.winmantrails.com
The bike is a Canyon Spectral 29er and I'm using the GoPro chesty mount with a foam cover on the camera to reduce wind noise.

Valuable comparison, thanks for doing it. I liked the second run video best. For me, the less the distortion the better, and the more realistic video feels. Keep ripping fellas!

  • @BIIIKES

Ok, here are my thoughts. For context, I'm currently running a GP9 w/ OG Max Lens Mod. I am super happy you made this video, as the temptation of buying the newest GoPro finally makes sense since there's a newer Max Lens Mod. Ok, thoughts...

Great video/comparison! Another option is to shoot in Max Superview 4:3 and then squish it (using GoPro FX Reframe) to 16:9 and you get something in-between Max Superview and Max Hyperview. Another nice thing about Max SV 4:3 is that it gives you more options than Max SV 16:9 by just capturing more vertical, so even if you don't squish it to 16:9 you can shift your 16:9 framing up or down if needed. Of the three in your comparison I think I like Max HV the best, but it is a little too much (since it squishes the 8:7 to 16:9) ,captures chin and adds too much edge distortion...which is where Max SV 4:3 comes in.

Max Hyperview looks slick 😎 I like the angle 📐 the trees come at you on POV

  • @PedalVision

I grabbed the 12 too, and Max Hyperview is a game changer! I love the auto zoom feature and no more worries about getting the entire cockpit in the shot. Solid comparison vid 👊🏿

  • @MJKOLODZIK

    Test #1 & #3 were freakin awesome.

  • @Adam_824

I agree the max hyperview is probably the coolest and most unique..I feel at first it’s weird, but once u get adjusted to it, it’s friggn BA..

  • @nigehill

I’d say max superview for most forest and trail riding and max hyperview for ridgeline and high exposure filming. Thanks for doing this video as I’m just getting a maxmod 2.0 lens which hasn’t arrived yet for my new hero 12

  • @MotorcycleMatt1

I like 2 but there is a strange lens flare or something a little up and right of center frame. Maybe the little guy wasn't clean? 3 is different, maybe too much of a good thing? More isn't always better. Arms, face, sometimes feet coming into frame from all different angles is sometimes distracting. Feels like being consumed by an octopus or something. As the lenses get wider it gets harder to fill more of the frame with the riders you're following. Sometimes real good and stable 3rd person footage of rider in front is the most immersive. Good thing the camera can do it all!

  • @acebikemedia

I think the max hyperview is pretty sick looking but id probably only use it when the scenery is epic. The second test, forget which setting it was, wouls probably be my go to. It all looks good though tbh. Shit has come a longggggg ways.

  • @BentSpokesMTB

Max superview with a helmet mount would be great

  • @OutdoorGentleman

    Test #2 max superview 4k 30fps horizon lock 👍🏼

  • @BentSpokesMTB

Max superview is a clear winner.. most enjoyable pov

  • @James-qy4es

btw how durable is the lens itself? would you put a go pro with lens 2.0 in your cycling jersey back pocket without rubber cover or will it scratches instantly?

    Max Superview liked the most

  • @joncarrier9906

I took one thing away from this. “Always keep your little guy clean”

  • @hakooq6432

hey does the stock spectral cf 7 have a loud or quiet hub?

  • @realminivanmike

    Max Superview was my favorite.

  • @OutdoorGentleman

Did you color grade or out of camera? Looks great.
