Hi Careful Consumer, I'm Dush a volunteer here at NutritionFacts.org. Great that you are consuming spinach and beets - fantastic sources of nutrition!
A diet rich in dark green leafies is great - we have a Daily Dozen guide available here: nutritionfacts.org/daily-dozen-challenge/ on which veg to eat daily. Eating spinach is fine, but just be careful on consuming it daily because of the oxalates. You can also get similar nutrition from things like Kale. See our video on it here: nutritionfacts.org/video/oxalates-in-spinach-and-kidney-stones-should-we-be-concerned/

that is not what it meant...100% meaning that SPECIFIC vege is not responsive to that specific cell type proliferation... or maybe fueling it in some sense for the cancer cells to grow...for example in the last chart for stomach cancer..tomato is way over 100% meaning ..probably you have to stay away from tomato for stomach cancer cos it is not effective..but you can eat more of the yellow green onion or garlic to fight it.

@@KeyofDavid5778 Right, but in one of his latest videos, Dr. Greger recommends that after you chop up your broccoli, let it sit for about 45 minutes for the sulforaphane to form. And as for onions, again, once you cut it up, let it stand for at least 15 minutes for the allicin to form. Thereby boosting their nutrients. If however you've purchased frozen broccoli or you've cooked it too long, than you can add mustard powder. It's on his video entitled "second strategy for cooking broccoli"

Yes, some veggies even get more bioavailable through cooking.
Broccoli, carrots, kale and other more "hard" veggies gets absorbed better when cooked.
Be careful with boiling though, because you end up pouring away a lot of nutrients when you pour out the water.
A good idea is to get a steam cooker, which preserves all nutrients inside the veggies, but still softens it so that you can digest it better.
Go to nutritionfacts and search for "cooking methods" or something similar. He did a video on this topic some years back.
Keep it green, keep it healthy, keep it cruelty free! :)

Very important question - better cooked or fresh?

Hi, Neformalis! In most cases, raw is best, but it depends on the individual food, and the cooking method. More on that here: nutritionfacts.org/video/flashback-friday-best-way-to-cook-vegetables/ I hope that helps!

Great content! Surprising to see regular cabbage beating out red cabbage in every type of cancer prevention. Every comparison I’ve seen between the two rates red cabbage as healthier than regular due to the increased amount of antioxidants in red. Any thoughts?

...same with califlower v. broccoli, so eat both types to hedge your bet.

I’d throw in red cabbage into my salad with endive, broccoli, beets and have my oil free garlic onion dressing as the oils are the problem with cancer, even the good oils. What happens from my research and marked studies is the oils harden the cell wall so nutrients can’t get in.

I saw that Yellow Onions were on the list, but not Red Onions. I know in your previous videos you have said that the "purple foods" (red onions being one) are better for you and it you had a choice to go with the "purple version". I'm guessing they are absent from these results because they just weren't part of the tests. Would that "assumption" be correct? Thanks for the great information Dr. Gregor.

Yes, they probably just didn't test red onions.
