The colors are just beautiful on that sweater. Thank you for all this information. I am becoming a better knitted because of all you teach me. Have a wonderful week.
Beautiful cardigan pattern! Thank you for taking the time to explain why and how. I always take a pattern and knit it in the round. I learned how to knit a sweater with my yarn and gauge the Elizabeth Zimmermann way. I have never looked back!
Great tutorial! I knit a cardigan in the round using your earlier tutorial on knitting a Norwegian sweater. It can be found easily on youtube. Again thank you for all of your knitting videos.
Thank you so much for your practical advice on knitting this beautiful cardigan in the round. This is one of the things I love about you guys. You always have practical advice. Thanks again for a great video! Hope you’re getting out and going skiing.
I love knitting’s in the round and it makes sense as knitting is better than purling, and faster. Thank you again for useful information and a bit of history. Take care fellows.
Oh my, that is a beautiful sweater!!! I love the contrast color!!! Just gorgeous!!!!! I also love the sweaters you two are wearing!!!!! You never disappoint!!!!!
It took me a minute but I see you both are wearing the same sweater pattern but in different ways to create the look. So cool too see the ways you can create a look that is the same yet different, it that makes sense. Love them!
This is a beautiful cardigan! I bought this pattern book for my Christmas gift. I buy my own gifts because I get exactly what I want! LOL I can see doing the Norwegian method of working in the round with the pattern work is a lot easier than knitting and purling back and forth. This is going to be on my bucket list to do. I'll research how to do the sleeves since I'm not clear on it. Thank you very much!
Wow, you have to be a seriously gifted knitter for in the round. I have yet to make a simple scarf, but i enjoy hearing about all things related to knitting and creating things. Have a wonderous week.
Thank you for showing how easy it is to knit these beautiful sweaters in the round. This video and the previous series of three that you published several years ago make this the only way I will ever knit a cardigan again! Now to figure out my new gauge since I’m knitting my Freya with a worsted weight yarn to make it extra warm and a bit oversized.
Thank you, that was informative. I had to watch it twice because I kept getting distracted by the lovely greenery outside your greenhouse...lol ( I have ice and snow outside so it cheered me up ! ) Hope you are getting lots of rest, enjoy your week !
I am so glad you did this video! I have a pattern that is knitted flat and seamed. It is a pullover and I have been a little intimidated to try it in the round. I think I might give it a try. I did not want to purl in Fair Isle because I don't really know what I am doing! Thank you so much for all of your tips to make me a better knitter. Have a great day!
Hello, You guys are so...… talented and inspiring to me and all your viewers!!! Actually I don't but do crochet its all yarn and "art" at the sametime. 💖💖💖💖 Looking to ya'll next video🙏🙏🙏🙏
Amazing. You are both so talented. Knitting in the round changed my life! I've recently started a hat and glove set using Portuguese knitting (I saw your older video re different knitting styles) in the round and I was surprised how easy was to get the hang of. I've got a long way to go before I could do something like one of these gorgeous sweaters but maybe some day soon I'll give it a try. Thank you for all your inspirational videos.
Lovely to see you two wonderful Guys, Happy New Year. Sorry I haven’t been commenting for a while, been caring for a family member. The cardigan is fabulous, I learned to knit on the round whilst on holiday in the Shetland Isles and loved doing it. I really want to knit on the round again so a big thank you for this tutorial. I think you are both wonderful, my most favourite people. You both look very handsome today in your fabulous sweaters. Sending you both all my love as always xxxxxxx Dorothy 🙋🏻❤️😘😘🌟❤️🌟
I enjoyed this video even though I'm not an experienced enough knitter to have understood it. I just love watching you! I'm making the sweater you have on and the Thorvald sweater. I'm having my heart surgery on Thursday so it will make good hospital knitting (I hope). I'm looking forward to next week.
I am knit a hat in the round , for my husbands birthday, I am forming Squares, it looks pretty awesome🤗 too bad I made it too big😱. As always terrific video. Erne & Carlitos. 😘
Learned something!! I didn't know you could sew around neck then trim away excess for neck shaping! Knitting then steeking definitely seems the best way.
Beautiful cardigan. I could visualize how to work it bottom up in the round very clearly listening to your instructions. One would use a drop sleeve versus a set in sleeve and pick up around the steeked edges for the placket. Right? ☺️
There is actually no need for that.We never add any extra stitches because the knitted fabric is elastic and therefore it is totally unnecessary. But, it is up to anyone to do so, if they wish.
I love you both and follow you for years happily,I want to say it first;)) then I have a question how to convert a round knitting colorwork diagram to flat one? I terribly need to learn, seriously I’m very unhappy about it because I really don’t know what to do and I can’t go on my project. love from Turkey💜❤️
I'm nervous. I just finished a pullover made out of Berrocco superwash. I now love the feel of it and the color but not the style. I wish I had made it in a cardigan style instead. My issue is that I already wet blocked and air dried it naturally. Is it to late to steek? It has bottom and neck ribbing.
Naughty manequin, going down all on her own. Freya is lovely. Glad you made knitting in the round clear, pity you can't use the arm curve. Should be a raglan then. Oh well, you can't have it all with Freya 😉
Thank you so much for explaining why your patterns are published as flat instead of in the round. I love Freja but would not want to do colorwork flat in peices. It’s not the purling that is off putting to me rather it is reading the patterns one way for the knit round and from left to right for the purl - drives me crazy and I have to frog when I forget. I made Tuva and made a mistake in the neckline placement as I added stitches to the sleeves and that threw off the placement of the neck - but I sort of fixed it and still wear it. I want to make Tuva again. OK back to the subject matter - have you considered making a video for purchase that would show step by step how to convert Freja? Maybe asking for questions before video is made and addressing our concerns in the video? I love this pattern but would not attempt it knitted in the flat. Arne, I love your explanations, but you have been doing patterns etc for so long and for someone like me who has never steeked or altered a pattern it seems scary to do as I fear I would ruin the pattern and not know how to make it beautiful. I do not understand the add one stitch for placement, and have other questions. It would be fun and so full of learning new techniques if there was a way we could do it together as a group. thank you another wonderful video!
It has been my understanding that it is an industry standard for yarn companies to publish their patterns as pieces knitted flat to appeal to a broader audience in marketing their yarn. As Arne has explained, it is an easy matter to convert a flat pattern to an in-the-round pattern, provided that you take into consideration what number of stitches may have been used within the seam allowance. I think it is much easier than converting an in-the-round pattern to flat. I personally prefer to knit in the round, however, as a XXL sized man, I am instantly defeated when I have to cast on 300 to 360 stitches, just to get started! I am currently working on a stranded pullover where I am knitting the individual “flat” pieces in-the-round, with the intention of steeking them apart and then sewing the pieces together afterwards. I may decide it is more work than necessary, but the idea of seeing the colorwork pattern develop quicker over 156 stitches rather than 300 (my steek is 6 stitches wide), may keep me motivated. Sometimes you just have to try something yourself in order to decide if you like it or not. Thank you, Carlos & Arne, for endorsing the idea that we are free to adjust patterns to suit our own personal tastes and methods!
Hi Patti, we do not add any. We never add additional stitches for steeking in the front because when you sew on the placket, you are adding those stitches there - in other words, the plackets will have plenty of stitches because they overlap. Knitting is elastic and easily adaptable and one or two stitches more or less makes absolutely no difference. But, for those who wish to add extra stitches, please feel free to do so. We never add any extra stitches because the knitted fabric is elastic and therefore it is totally unnecessary. But, it is up to anyone to do so, if they wish.
Hi Arne & Carlos, love this pattern and colors. I remember in an earlier video you talked about how traditional patterns would take the neck steak into consideration in pattern placement so that the pattern was not chopped into by the steak. How might you suggest adjusting Freya around the neck similarly?
I love your matching sweaters! Everything you explained sound logical to me. But how can you actually go forth and back with different colours? I tried it once and had a hard time, controlling the threads and get an even stitch. It just looked like a mess, because I didn't knew how to carry the float. Do you have any tips for that problem?
Thanks for explaining knitting in the round boggles my brain. It's harder to shape in the round. But it's more effective. Can you please if you have time make a video of the setting up after the rib at the bottom in the round so we can have a visual to back uo what u mean by the middle line.?
Thanks guys, great topic. Question, does your patterns / motifs change if they are knitted top down instead of bottom to top? The sweaters you have on are awsome.
I purchased the pattern for Freya and all the rowan yarn to make it. When I read the pattern, I almost threw it in the fire thinking of all the color work that I would have to purl - and thinking of reading the chart backwards on every other row. I have been trying to work out how to knit it in the round and your cavalier attitude towards this change gives me courage. I bought the .pdf and the chart is unreadable. It is very small and the print is very hard to distinguish. Any thoughts ? I want to make this my covid19 winter 2020/21 project.
Since it is a Rowan pattern, even if it is designed by us, it need to go through the Rowan customer service. Please contact them and ask if they can send you a larger chart.
What did Arne mean when you knit the section on the armhole as a whole going up the neckline? Also, you don't decrease sts on the neckline as a personal preference? That means that the hole for the neckline would be more fitted?
Hi, thank you for watching! But you do not need to decrease anything in the neckline when you are going to steek it anyway, you just fit the neckline using a pair of scissors.
Your designs are wonderful.
Thank you Patti!
Love your sweaters you are both wearing.
Thank you!
Such a beautiful design
Thank you Jennifer!
Lovely cardigan.
Thank you Carolina!
Great explanation. Thank you for another beautiful design.

I love knitting in the round. Thank you for sharing all your ideas. - Keep Smiling

👍. Thank you. Knitters need to learn how easy it is to convert patterns. It’s only a little maths but so much creativity.
You are welcome Julie!

Thank you Julie!
Learned something!! I didn't know you could sew around neck then trim away excess for neck shaping! Knitting then steeking definitely seems the best way.

Very clearly explained Arne. Thank you. Did you not make a video about steeking? I am sure you did!
Hi Jo An, yes we have and there is link to it in the video. Enjoy your week!

Thank you for watching James!
Bonsoir Arne & Carlos, vous mettez de très bons pull-overs avec de Belles couleurs différentes !! C'est Excellant !! Noriko
Merci!
Don’t you need to add stiches in the front and the armholes for steeking?
We do not add them but if you prefer that you can do that.
Great information. thank you for them states.
Thank you for watching Teri!
Surely additional stitches are necessary for the steeks at the front, and armholes - which can also carry the shaping for the sleeves.
There is actually no need for that.We never add any extra stitches because the knitted fabric is elastic and therefore it is totally unnecessary. But, it is up to anyone to do so, if they wish.

Hi chaps, I’m looking for the pattern of both your jumpers in this video. Do you have it for sale please. Love Maggie x
Hi! I like the sweaters that you are wearing. Where can I find the pattern? What is it called? Is there in one of your books? thanks
I like the Rowan seater, but I LOVE the sweater you both are wearing. Is that pattern available, Arne and Carlos? Takk skal du ha.

Where can I find the pattern for the gorgeous sweaters you two are wearing? I agree, I don’t like to make a sweater in parts either!
Hi Anne, you can find it on our website arnecarlos.com/shop
How many steek stitches would you add for the front and arm openings? I adore this sweater. Thank you.
Hi Patti, we do not add any.
