When passengers stepped on board the Queen Mary they settled in for an adventure on one of the biggest, fastest and most luxurious ships of its day. If you wanted to get from one part of the world to another, travel by ship was your only choice. The Queen Mary's job was to transport passengers and mail across the ocean and provide a home away from home during the five-day crossing. From 1936 to 1967, she crossed the Atlantic Ocean 1,001 times, speeding between Southhampton, England, and New York City, in the United States. During these crossings, the Queen Mary was a City at Sea.
