@@tktopmovies because he’s Half Kneazle which are VERY magical almost mythical beings that are often beyond most human intelligence. I think some could speak as well. Very telepathic but also the intelligence part shines here where Crookshanks figured out the rat was an Animagus❤
@@Muck006 It's explained in the book. Sirius tells them Crockshanks knew Pettigrew wasn't a real rat and was trying to capture Pettigrew for Sirius, who had befriended Crockshanks earlier in the book. When a wizard or witch is in their animagi form they can somehow communicate with animals.
Harry actually spent around a week at the Leaky Cauldron. Everyone always said that Harry looked like his father, so when he saw himself, it makes sense that he thought it was his father. Taking a walk in the moonlight.
I always wondered why it took him so long to break out that way. If he could do it all along, why wait? Maybe it was explained in the books, but it's been about 15 years since I read them (currently re-reading and on CoS right now)
@@panjamysy he was depressed in prison. He felt he was the cause of Lily & James’ deaths. He got a newspaper that showed the Weasleys in Egypt & recognized Peter Petigrew as Scabbers. That’s when he was escaped to kill Peter.

It wasent a happy thought so th3 dementia couldn't take it away an when it got too bad he would turn into a dog and that was easier to handle because dogs emotions are simpiler. When he saw the newspaper when fudge visited him. He saw that Peter was at Hogwarts and that haunted him because he knew he was so close to Harry. Finally he was able to turn into a dog and at this point he was so skinny he fit between the bars. And because he was a dog it very difficult for the dementors to detect them.
Chocolate produces feelings of comfort and joy, and in the books the school nurse agreed with Lupin that it’s the correct Remedy after a run-in with a Dementor.
@@tktopmovies Ya chocolate has been proven to stimulate the body to release endorphins, the feel good hormone, so it would be particularly helpful for recoverry after a Dementor attack.
Technically, Harry and Hermione didn’t ’change’ history… if you watch back the first time around, everything happens the same way (they never saw the execution, just the birds flying away etc), so their future selves are already part of their present!

In the scene with the Bogart, when Lupin jumps in front of Harry, the Bogart turns into a full moon, which is what he fears most being a werewolf. Another Latin name link, Lupin is Latin for wolf.

Sirius Black actually gave Harry Potter 2 things 1 - the broom that was the feather reference in the movie. 2 - Permission to visit Hogsmead not mentioned in the movie. Everyone mistakes the Big Dog for a Wareroof.
Lupin saw on the marauder's map that Harry, Ron, and Hermione were in the Shrieking Shack with Sirius and Pettigrew but living the office he left the map there Snape went to his studio to give him the anti-werewolf potion, that helps him stay calmer during the full moon, Snape saw all that and went straight there, but he didn't pay attention to the presence of Pettigrew, too concentrated to prove to Dumbledore he was right about Lupin. Hagrid and Harry go into the leaky cauldron in the first film. If you notice, the wizard stirring his cup of coffee using magic while reading, is actually reading Stephen Hawkings A Brief History of Time, which was a bit of a nod to the time travel that happens later.
Ian Brown, singer for ‘80s English rock band, The Stone Roses, was the wizard in The Leaky Cauldron who was stirring a spoon in one of the scenes. (It’s real quick, so if you blink or talk over it, you’ll miss it ;) )

It always surprises me that no one recognizes Emma Thompson in her Professor Trelawney role -- She has such a huge catalog of accomplishments ( Nanny Mc Phee -- Love Actually -- Howards End -- The Remains of the Day -- Sense and Sensibility ect ) -- but then again many of them are top notch actors too --

@@tktopmovies If you like Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh (Gilderoy Lockhart (in the Chamber of Secrets movie), you should try Much Ado About Nothing. It's a Shakespeare movie, but not hard to follow at all - it's a comedy/love story, and Keanu Reeves plays the villain in it.

Kenneth Branagh, who played the DADA teacher Gilderoy Lockhart in the previous movie, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" is her husband. I think it would have been cool if they were both in the same movie.

Both of these are Shakespeare movies, and co-star a number of other terrific British actors, like Brian Blessed. Denzel Washington plays a prince in Much Ado About Nothing (this is the only movie he's been in that I've seen).
The Leaky Cauldron is in London which is a Pub that is like the gateway to Diagon Alley. Knocturn Alley is the darker part of Diagon Alley that Harry ended up after saying Diagonally in Chamber of Secrets movie
Knocturn Alley is another “Alley” along with Diagon Alley in the magical world that you get to from the Leaky Cauldron. Remember in 1st film that Hagrid took Harry to Leaky Cauldron and then Hagrid tapped on the brick wall and it opened to Diagon Alley
The one thing I love about Year 3, and it hit me YEARS AGO when reading the book, is that in a world full of magic and sorcery, time travel was the last plot device I was expecting! Great reaction you guys!!
Time travel is a LAZY and BAD plot device (next to "alternate universe"/"multiverse") and needs to "die". Rowling's version is about the only one that actually makes sense, because she already describes events as they happen WITH the time travel ... and they only understand it because of it. Too bad it doesnt logically make sense, because Harry WOULD HAVE DIED at the lake with the dementors & Sirius BEFORE GETTING THE CHANCE TO GO BACK AND SAVE HIMSELF ... so how can "the cycle" start?
One of my favourite quotes from the Potter-Verse: "I solemnly swear I am up to no good!" That's such a coming-of-age-concept and it fits perfectly since the Harry Potter-Series is clearly a coming-of-age-story! I just love it...
You think of "up to no good" and the first thing that springs to mind is Fred and George 😂 The first time I saw this film I thought they'd created it themselves, until it's revealed who did creat it.
Snape was making the potion that helps Lupin!!!!! Altho Snape fancies the dark arts position, he is an excellent master of potions. Later after you watch all of the movies...look up the meaning of the potions Snape asks Harry about in the first movie.
Yes, rewatch them BUT only after reading the books.... seven books that fly by just as fast as the movies and give you more insight and detail into the characters and backstories.

The map was made by Harry's dad, Sirius, Lupin, and Pettigrew. When Lupin turned into a werewolf, he chose the nickname "Moony. @@tktopmovies Not necessarily. Harry's such a powerful wizard that in all probability if he chose to become one, he could. The spell, however is quite difficult and dangerous and the Ministry of Magic keeps a record of all animagi (somehow James, Sirius, and Peter slipped by without being known--I suspect with the help of Dumbledore).

@@WMalven No, actually Dumbledore didn't know about it. Lupin felt a constant sense of guilt and shame for having deceived Dumbledore, who had gone out of his way to trust him. That's covered in the third book.

You really need to turn on the subtitles when you watch the Harry Potter movies. They are very, very dialogue driven & viewers need to pay attention to what the characters are saying to follow the plot. That’s much easier to do with the subtitles turned on, especially when you’re speaking over the dialogue for you’re reactions. Harry clearly tells the Knight Bus conductor that he wants to go to the Leaky Cauldron in London. The Leaky Cauldron is a pub/inn for magical community. It’s where Hagrid took Harry in the first movie & the whole place went silent when Hagrid said Harry’s name & then everyone stepped forward to shake his hand. The entrance to Diagon Alley is in the back courtyard of the Leaky Cauldron. Hagrid tapped the bricks with his umbrella to open it up. The movies only get more mature, detailed & darker from here on out & it is important to keep up since what’s said in passing in one movie becomes very important in a later movie. If you miss the dialogue you’ll just be confused when it’s bought up in a later movie. The intro of the magical world of the first 3 movies is over. Things are just going to get more mature, detailed, complicated & intense from now on.
A bit of behind the scene info …Michael Gambon (Dumbledore) and Alan Rickman(Snape) in the Scene where they have all the kids in sleeping bags…….they played a bit of a prank on Daniel Radcliffe(Harry Potter) where they put a farting machine that the actor who plays Dumbledore had control of and would make it sound like Dan/Harry was farting.
@@tktopmovies Ian McKellin shared in a sort of interview thing that was part of another documentary type video that showed his conversation with Michael Gambon about being confused for one another by so many people and Ian said to one of Michael’s questions about autographs and Ian said “Oh I just Sign your name” haha 😂😅❤ when they think he’s Michael when they mixed up the wrong movies to begin with when coming up to them hahaha
Another thing that they hint that lupin is a ware wolf is when he jumps in front of Harry in class and they show clouds with a moon and he turns it to a white balloon with the spell
Actually, that's three Defense Against the Dark Arts Teachers down: 1. Quirinius Quirrell 2. Gilderoy Lockhart and 3. Remus Lupin. Tom Riddle (Voldemort) wanted to be the DADA teacher but Dumbledore wouldn't hire him because of his affinity for the dark arts, so Riddle cursed the position so that nobody who held the job would last a year.

@@tktopmovies Yes, there is a different DADA professor in the next movie. I don't want to say who it is because I don't want to give too much away. But there is a diferent DADA professor in each movie. Also, I couldn't get over how different Professor Flitwick looked in this movie compared the first movie where he was the levitation teacher. In that movie he looked more like a goblin but in this one he looked more human with the slicked back hair and mustache.
Something that isn't explained in the movie... Yes, Lupin was looking at the map and that's how he knew to come to the shrieking shack. Snape went to Lupins office to give him a potion to help with his werewolf phase. He saw the map, too, and followed them to the shack. Unfortunately Harry zapped him before he could give Lupin the potion.
That doesnt work ... because Snape WOULD HAVE seen the name PETER PETTIGREW on the map as well ... and he would have known about Peter supposedly being dead.
@@Muck006 you're assuming that Snape would have noticed Pettigrew's name after seeing Sirius on the map. His hatred for Sirius would have given him blinders and wouldn't have even noticed the other names.
There is a hint in the names Sirius Black and Remus Lupin regarding their double identities. Sirius is a star also called the "Dog star" because it's the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major, which means "Big Dog" in Latin, and "Lupin" is derived from the word "Lupine" the Latin word for "Wolf"

Harry can’t fully leave his aunt’s and uncle’s house. I can’t say exactly why because it will be a spoiler but I can say they do at least I think they do tell you why he has to go back every year after school. I can also tell you that there is a good reason for Harry to return to his aunts every year.

It wasn't explained in the film but the Marauders Map was made by the 4 friends. Moony = Remus Lupin (werewolf), Wormtail = Peter Pettigrew (rat), Padfoot = Sirius Black (dog )and Prongs = James Potter, as his Patronus was a stag
Serius Black was helped by Crookshanks, Hermione's cat. There is a fantastic fan theory about this. Without giving away too many spoilers, there is a character briefly mentioned in the first book who raises possibly magical cats. (They become important later) In the 7th book we find out the Potter family had a cat. The theory is that cat was from the character from the first book and was Crookshanks. Crookshanks was there the night the Potters died and knew Black was innocent and Pettigrew was guilty. That is why the cat kept trying to kill the rat.
Harry´s dad James, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black and Peter Pettygrew were 4 friends when they were students in Hogwarts and formed a group named "the Marauders" back in the day. the names on the map were their nicknames for each other (Sirius is Padfoot f.e.) - that´s why Professor Lupin instantly recognized the "Marauder´s map" ;O)

Awesome reaction guys!!! Sirius was able to escape from Azkaban because he transformed into his animagi form (dog) to do so. The dementors do not pay attention to anything that is not human so that made it easy for Sirius to slip past them at Azkaban and Hogwarts. 😃😍😎

Black is padfoot, Lupin is Mooney, James AKA Harry's dad was Prongs and Peter is wormtail. the map creators. Now peter was the one who betrayed Harry's parents and framed Black. Black is good.
Lupin teaching harry the Patronus took several weeks to months for him to learn properly any of it. Which sadly hardly any of it was in this movie but it’s been my favourite movie of all time regarding the series of films. Still have the cassette tapes for them ! They also included some of what became the larger documentary films later on which y’all should react to as well. You’ll love it. I will supply links.

The position of Defense Against the Dark Arts is cursed, that is why you had a different teacher. It makes sense to watch each film several times to catch those things you missed. Glad you are hooked. Join the club of millions of fans who watched the movies and/or read the books.
We are definitely hooked! We CANNOT WAIT to watch the 4th movie next weekend! And you're so right---thinking back to that position, first it was Professor Quirrel, then it was the author, and then Lupin. Now will we see anyone else in the role???
I noticed one thing for the first time. When Remus interferes in the classroom between Harry and his fear (dementor) the dementor changed in to cloud and moon!! which is Remus' fear (being werewolf). All this time I thought the fear dementor was turned in to a peaceful night with a bright moon .... doh .........
The place the bus takes Harry to and subsequent scenes is the Leaky Cauldron. They changed a lot of the sets and designs of things from this film like the Hogwarts uniforms and their wands. But they did keep some things like the train, the castle, classrooms etc. the same so it doesn't seem that they've completely changed it
Sirius is an Animagus. They went over it in class. They can choose when to transform. Sirius is the black dog. Lupin is a werewolf and throughout his time in school he used the Shrieking Shack for his transition nights. His screams are why it's called Shrieking Shack. Only the core friend group and Dumbledore knew about it. The friends all were Animagus to be able to spend time with Lupin still when he was a werewolf. I've seen other comments explaining all of their forms and names, plus the map etc. So I wont go into it. But the dog is not Lupin, it's Sirius
So, to explain a few things. 1) When they were all in the Shrieking Shack, they were going back and forth because Serious and Lu[in knew that Peter was in the room while in rat form so they were trying to act like they didn't know any better and Serious was "acting" like he had gone mad and was intending to kill harry. If you look closely, when they brought up the subject of Peter, Sabers starts trying to escape from Ron's lap. 2) Most people tend to miss this, but when Snape comes out of the tree and attempts to attack Harry, as soon as he sees Lupin, he immediately shields the kids behind himself. He didn't go for his wand, he didn't try to run away, his first instinct was to but himself in-between Lupin and the students even if it meant dying or being turned into werewolf forever. Its little bits of character development/foreshadowing like that that show that while Snape is a jerk and a bully, he is still a teacher who's priority is the safety of his students. That whole scene did not happen in the books but its one of the many changes the movie makes throughout the story that improves and humanizes the characters more. 3) Another thing that people also miss, the reason why the Dementors are always drawn to harry is because most of his memories are filled with loss, suffering, and trauma. To the Dementors, they see this as "savory".
Three of my favorite things about Prisoner Of Azkaban are: 1. The song "Double Trouble" 2. Harry flying on Buckbeak's back. 3. The introduction of Gary Oldman as Sirius Black and David Thewlis as Remus Lupin.
Fun fact, or maybe not a fun fact, Emma Thompson, who plays Trelawney was once married to Kenneth Branagh who played Gilderoy Lockhart in the Chamber of Secrets.
Can't wait for you to watch the next film, there's a couple of Actors that Americans that have reacted to HP always know. One of them is from a fantasy movie series, and one is from a UK Sci-fi series.
Not sure if anyone else answered this but Sirius was able to escape Azkaban in his dog form. Dementors cannot detect animals in the same way as humans. They are blind and sort of sense human thoughts. As long as Sirius stayed as a dog he was able to get passed the Dementors. When he saw the newspaper report of the Wesley's winning a competion to visit Egypt he noticed the rat Ron was holding. He knew Ron was Harrys best friend it was in the paper and he recognised Peter Pettigrew. He knew he had to escape and protect Harry. The Newspaper picture was shown in a scene in the Leaky Caldron. The Harry Potter books were read by so many children and their parents like myself because they are impossible to put down once your start. Gripping story lines characters and a detailed world that draws you in. My children would line up at bookstores with hundreds of people when each book was published. When the last book came out we ordered it by post. My eldest son went and waited for the postman at the end of our street at 6am in the morning! He wanted to start reading before school. I picked it up and read it while he was at school. The Movies are as good as they could be but had to leave a lot out or they would be 6 hours long! Thanks for watching with such excitement

Something that isn’t brought up in the movies that is in the books is that Harry’s eyes in the books are green witch is just like his mothers eyes and because Daniel Radcliffe was allergic to the contacts that would of made his eyes green he couldn’t ware them so they had to take that part out and just have Harry have blue eyes instead.

Sirius Black is an Animagus, same as professor McGonagall and Peter Pettigrew. He can transform into a dog whenever he wants, while Lupin on the other hand has no control over turning into a werewolf in the moonlight. 👍🏼
At the beginning they are at the Leaky Cauldren Pub (which is like a hotel & pub?bar together), which is the muggle way of getting into Diagon Alley. the shopping area & place that has Gringott's bank.

The Leaky Cauldron is like a hotel for wizards in London. It was the place where there was the entrance for the Diagon Alley, when Hagrid and Harry visited it in the first film. Azkaban is the magical prison. It is an old castle somewhere at the North Sea (northern of the UK). The dementors were the guardians. They suck the happiness and the joy of every place and the people around them. Azkaban didn’t had cells and chains… etc The prisoners couldn’t escape because of the presence of the Dementors. Marking them depressed and had no interest in life. J.K. Rowling created those creatures by one of her experiences. Many people have seen nightmares LFC waking up in the night and seeing this around them! It is recorded form people all around the globe, one specific thing. Waking up and seeing a tall, big “shadow” standing in from of you or at the end of the room. Rowing had seeing a night mate like this and that’s why “Dementors” were born! Snape mentioned “Dementor’s kiss” That was like the ultimate penalty for a criminal. The dementor was so close to you and by “kissing” you it could suck your soul. Hippos+griffin = Hippogriff •Sirius Black wasn’t a wolf, he was a black dog. Remus Lupin was a werewolf. The story is long but I’ll try to explain. James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew were all students at Hogwarts, in the same years. They were best friends. Remus got attacked by a werewolf and he was “infected” with the wolf-curse. Then, he started to transform into a werewolf each full moon. Dumbledore was headmaster at that time and he didn’t want Remus to be discriminated by the wizards around him… he wanted to continue his studies at Hogwarts but letting a werewolf among student was extremely dangerous and illegal. Dumbledore planted the Whomping Willow at Hogwarts and created a secret passage under it. That lead at the Shrieking Shack (the wooden cabin Ron and Hermione were looking at. Do you remember Hermione saying that it was considered the most haunted house in Britain?) That was because while he was at Hogwarts Remus was transported there to change each full moon!!! He was taking a magical potion that allowed his to keep his human-side while he was in the wolf form. And he stayed there as long as he was a wolf. His friends James, Sirius and Peter found a spell and they became animagi. James became a stag (male deer) Sirius became a black dog and Peter became a rat. *** Animagus is not the same with werewolves. Animagus = animals + magus (means wizard in Hellenic🇬🇷) A wizard that had the ability to transform into an animal. *This was a RARE magical ability* Very veryyy few wizards were animagi. Do you remember MacGonaggall being transformed into a cat? She was an animagus as well. Animagi were transformed into their animal form at will, werewolves had no choice… Dumbledore gave to James, Sirius and Peter a book with a very complicated spell, portion and a ritual to become an animagus. In each full moon they changed into their animals forms and kept company to Remus while he was a wolf!!! Note that each wizard was able to transform only to ONE animal! Sirius was always a dog, MacGonaggall was always a cat… etc They couldn’t change everytime! Remus kept his secret until that time he was a teacher. Everyone learnt it and that’s why he was “forced” to retire because they would fire him anyway! •Boggarts and Dementors• Boggarts were a different magical creature. Harry’s boggart was a dementor because Harry was afraid of them. Each person had it own boggart as any of us fears something did rent the most. In the books for example we see Molley Weasley’s boggart (Ron’s mum) when Harry was at their house Molley founded a boggart at the wardrobe and it was transformed into 7 dead bodies showing to her the 7 dead bodies of her children… Her worst fear! •Now, what happened with Peter, Sirius and Harry’s parents• When Voldemort was after Harry’s parents they were hiding. Dumbledore haloed them by giving them instructions to perform a very powerful and curious spell. (That is was expelled in the books so I’m telling you to help you understand the whole story) James, Lily and baby Harry Harry chose a house to hide and they made the *Fidelius Charm*. They hide the secret of their location in one person’s soul. What does that mean? Even if Voldemort was standing at the front door of their house he couldn’t see the house, he could enter and it was like that location didn’t exist for him. ONLY IF the person who was the “keeper of the secret” was telling you their location *WITH HIS WILL* you could find their location! It doesn’t matter if Voldemort tortured you to say it… only if you would say it willingly, Voldemort could go there. James and Lily wanted Sirius to be the keeper of the secret because they knew that he would never revealed their location BUT Sirius did a terrible mistake. Sirius proposed to Peter Pettigrew to be the keeper of the secret because they trusted him as a friend… Siri’s said that Voldemort knew that Sirius was their best fiend, so it would be greater to hide the secret into another person. So, as long as Voldemort could hunt Sirius for the secret, Peter would be the one true keeper of the secret being undetected!!! But Peter was a traitor… the moment they made him the Kepler of the secret, Peter went straight to Voldemort and betrayed them. Then Voldie went there and killed them… Then Sirius tried to kill Peter for that! But Peter staged his death. He escaped with his rat form and hide at the Weasleys for 12 years! •Patronus• Patronus could take two forms. One of them was the shield-form, crediting a barrier of light and not letting the dementor affect you. The other form was the corporeal form when your dementor had the form of an animal. Again, each person had a different patronus! Harry’s patronus was a stag, Hermione’s was an otter, Remus’ was a wolf, Ron’s was a dog…etc

Also, "lupin" is Latin for "wolf", and "Remus" is the name of one of the two legendary brothers who founded the city of Rome, and who were supposedly raised by a wolf. Rowling uses a lot of symbolic names. "Sirius" is the name of a star - the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major - "The Big Dog". And so "Sirius" is often called, "The Dog Star". Also happens to be the origin of the phrase "dog days of Summer" - when the days are especially hot. People used to believe that the extra heat was coming from Sirius, which is the visibly brightest star in the night sky. "Albus" means "white". "Rubeus" means "red" (like "ruby"). And "Black" means "black". Professor Sprout is the herbology teacher. Sybil Trelawny is the divination teacher - "Sybil" being the name of an oracle from Greek mythology, IIRC. "Voldemort" means "fly from death" and "Malfoy" means "bad faith" in French (perhaps slightly modified). And "Pettigrew" is Estonian for "rat". OK, I made that last one up. There are some others that come up in the later books/movies that I won't spoil for you.
Actually the first spell harry did was Maxima which means creating light while the one that protect us from dementors is expecto patronum which provides protections so those are two different magical spells
I never noticed this till a bit sho but the scene where Harry is watching the map you can notice that where Harrt is going two steps at a time versus Peters 4 steps at a time should have given a clue what he was

Love these reactions. 🔥Got me back reading the books again. Gonna be playing the hell outta the new game when it drops later today. Seriously tho reading the books is lowkey required not tryna sound like one of those gatekeeper fans cuz I love the movies myself and love that y'all enjoy them but really the series just ain't the same unless you read the books too. There's just so much to this world you would never know. Like 80% is left out or changed. The game just came out today and just like when I read the books I'm about to escape this reality and immerse myself in the wizarding world.
The Knight Bus has protective enchantments on it to keep muggles from seeing it. Most magic buildings and locations do. Hogwarts fir example looks like a dangerous, crumbling ruin if a muggle happens to stumble into the area. There's a really great scene in ths book that didn't make it into the movie where Harry gets some epic payback on Draco. Harry also got his Firebolt from Sirius a lot earlier in the book and flew it in some Quidditch matches. That's why I highly recommend reading or listening to the books once someone finishes the movies. It's like going on a slightly different adventure. Remus Lupin was attacked by a werewolf named Fenrir Greyback when he was a kid. His changes were uncontrolled so he had to be contained every full moon. Years later someone invented a Wolfsbane potion that helped Lupin retain most of himself while in werewolf form. He would curl up somewhere until it passed without worrying that he would attack anyone. When he saw Pettigrew on the map with the trio as well as Sirius, he ran to find them. However, he missed taking his potion. Snape brought it to his office and saw the open map and went after them as well.

lupin is a werewolf, pettigrew and sirius are animagus, they became animagus along with harry’s dad to help lupin when he would turn into a werewolf (harry’s dad was a stag, like his patronus). a key difference between werewolves and an animagus is that werewolves can’t turn at will, the others can.
Lupin is a werewolf, Sirius is an Animagus like Pettigrew. Essentially a werewolf is forced to turn, an animagus is more of a shape-shifter, though they each have only one animal they can transform into. Sirius' just happens to be a dog. A werewolf becomes completely feral without wolfsbane potion, but an animagus is still essentially themselves.
this one will always be my favorite. Probably because its the one I owned and watched over and over again. But I also just think the director did something really special with this movie and I always felt curious what he would have done if he directed the rest of the movies. I think he would have done a great job.

@@Muck006 It's explained in the book. Sirius tells them Crockshanks knew Pettigrew wasn't a real rat and was trying to capture Pettigrew for Sirius, who had befriended Crockshanks earlier in the book. When a wizard or witch is in their animagi form they can somehow communicate with animals.
Harry actually spent around a week at the Leaky Cauldron. Everyone always said that Harry looked like his father, so when he saw himself, it makes sense that he thought it was his father. Taking a walk in the moonlight.
Sirius got out of Azkaban because he could transform into a dog. The dementors couldn’t sense the dog.

@@panjamysy he was depressed in prison. He felt he was the cause of Lily & James’ deaths. He got a newspaper that showed the Weasleys in Egypt & recognized Peter Petigrew as Scabbers. That’s when he was escaped to kill Peter.

It wasent a happy thought so th3 dementia couldn't take it away an when it got too bad he would turn into a dog and that was easier to handle because dogs emotions are simpiler. When he saw the newspaper when fudge visited him. He saw that Peter was at Hogwarts and that haunted him because he knew he was so close to Harry. Finally he was able to turn into a dog and at this point he was so skinny he fit between the bars. And because he was a dog it very difficult for the dementors to detect them.
Chocolate produces feelings of comfort and joy, and in the books the school nurse agreed with Lupin that it’s the correct Remedy after a run-in with a Dementor.

Lupin saw on the marauder's map that Harry, Ron, and Hermione were in the Shrieking Shack with Sirius and Pettigrew but living the office he left the map there Snape went to his studio to give him the anti-werewolf potion, that helps him stay calmer during the full moon, Snape saw all that and went straight there, but he didn't pay attention to the presence of Pettigrew, too concentrated to prove to Dumbledore he was right about Lupin. It always surprises me that no one recognizes Emma Thompson in her Professor Trelawney role -- She has such a huge catalog of accomplishments ( Nanny Mc Phee -- Love Actually -- Howards End -- The Remains of the Day -- Sense and Sensibility ect ) -- but then again many of them are top notch actors too --

The Leaky Cauldron is in London which is a Pub that is like the gateway to Diagon Alley. Knocturn Alley is the darker part of Diagon Alley that Harry ended up after saying Diagonally in Chamber of Secrets movie

Time travel is a LAZY and BAD plot device (next to "alternate universe"/"multiverse") and needs to "die". Rowling's version is about the only one that actually makes sense, because she already describes events as they happen WITH the time travel ... and they only understand it because of it. Too bad it doesnt logically make sense, because Harry WOULD HAVE DIED at the lake with the dementors & Sirius BEFORE GETTING THE CHANCE TO GO BACK AND SAVE HIMSELF ... so how can "the cycle" start?

Snape was making the potion that helps Lupin!!!!! Altho Snape fancies the dark arts position, he is an excellent master of potions. Later after you watch all of the movies...look up the meaning of the potions Snape asks Harry about in the first movie.

The spell, however is quite difficult and dangerous and the Ministry of Magic keeps a record of all animagi (somehow James, Sirius, and Peter slipped by without being known--I suspect with the help of Dumbledore).

@@WMalven No, actually Dumbledore didn't know about it. Lupin felt a constant sense of guilt and shame for having deceived Dumbledore, who had gone out of his way to trust him. That's covered in the third book.

You really need to turn on the subtitles when you watch the Harry Potter movies. They are very, very dialogue driven & viewers need to pay attention to what the characters are saying to follow the plot. That’s much easier to do with the subtitles turned on, especially when you’re speaking over the dialogue for you’re reactions.
Harry clearly tells the Knight Bus conductor that he wants to go to the Leaky Cauldron in London. The Leaky Cauldron is a pub/inn for magical community. It’s where Hagrid took Harry in the first movie & the whole place went silent when Hagrid said Harry’s name & then everyone stepped forward to shake his hand. The entrance to Diagon Alley is in the back courtyard of the Leaky Cauldron. Hagrid tapped the bricks with his umbrella to open it up.
The movies only get more mature, detailed & darker from here on out & it is important to keep up since what’s said in passing in one movie becomes very important in a later movie. If you miss the dialogue you’ll just be confused when it’s bought up in a later movie. The intro of the magical world of the first 3 movies is over. Things are just going to get more mature, detailed, complicated & intense from now on.
A bit of behind the scene info …Michael Gambon (Dumbledore) and Alan Rickman(Snape) in the Scene where they have all the kids in sleeping bags…….they played a bit of a prank on Daniel Radcliffe(Harry Potter) where they put a farting machine that the actor who plays Dumbledore had control of and would make it sound like Dan/Harry was farting.

@@tktopmovies Ian McKellin shared in a sort of interview thing that was part of another documentary type video that showed his conversation with Michael Gambon about being confused for one another by so many people and Ian said to one of Michael’s questions about autographs and Ian said “Oh I just Sign your name” haha 😂😅❤ when they think he’s Michael when they mixed up the wrong movies to begin with when coming up to them hahaha
Another thing that they hint that lupin is a ware wolf is when he jumps in front of Harry in class and they show clouds with a moon and he turns it to a white balloon with the spell
Actually, that's three Defense Against the Dark Arts Teachers down: 1. Quirinius Quirrell 2. Gilderoy Lockhart and 3. Remus Lupin. Tom Riddle (Voldemort) wanted to be the DADA teacher but Dumbledore wouldn't hire him because of his affinity for the dark arts, so Riddle cursed the position so that nobody who held the job would last a year.

Also, I couldn't get over how different Professor Flitwick looked in this movie compared the first movie where he was the levitation teacher. In that movie he looked more like a goblin but in this one he looked more human with the slicked back hair and mustache.
Something that isn't explained in the movie... Yes, Lupin was looking at the map and that's how he knew to come to the shrieking shack. Snape went to Lupins office to give him a potion to help with his werewolf phase. He saw the map, too, and followed them to the shack. Unfortunately Harry zapped him before he could give Lupin the potion.
That doesnt work ... because Snape WOULD HAVE seen the name PETER PETTIGREW on the map as well ... and he would have known about Peter supposedly being dead.

There is a hint in the names Sirius Black and Remus Lupin regarding their double identities. Sirius is a star also called the "Dog star" because it's the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major, which means "Big Dog" in Latin, and "Lupin" is derived from the word "Lupine" the Latin word for "Wolf"

I can’t say exactly why because it will be a spoiler but I can say they do at least I think they do tell you why he has to go back every year after school. I can also tell you that there is a good reason for Harry to return to his aunts every year.

It wasn't explained in the film but the Marauders Map was made by the 4 friends. Moony = Remus Lupin (werewolf), Wormtail = Peter Pettigrew (rat), Padfoot = Sirius Black (dog )and Prongs = James Potter, as his Patronus was a stag

Serius Black was helped by Crookshanks, Hermione's cat. There is a fantastic fan theory about this. Without giving away too many spoilers, there is a character briefly mentioned in the first book who raises possibly magical cats. (They become important later) In the 7th book we find out the Potter family had a cat. The theory is that cat was from the character from the first book and was Crookshanks. Crookshanks was there the night the Potters died and knew Black was innocent and Pettigrew was guilty. That is why the cat kept trying to kill the rat.

Harry´s dad James, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black and Peter Pettygrew were 4 friends when they were students in Hogwarts and formed a group named "the Marauders" back in the day. the names on the map were their nicknames for each other (Sirius is Padfoot f.e.) - that´s why Professor Lupin instantly recognized the "Marauder´s map" ;O)

Black is padfoot, Lupin is Mooney, James AKA Harry's dad was Prongs and Peter is wormtail. the map creators. Now peter was the one who betrayed Harry's parents and framed Black. Black is good.

Lupin teaching harry the Patronus took several weeks to months for him to learn properly any of it. Which sadly hardly any of it was in this movie but it’s been my favourite movie of all time regarding the series of films. Still have the cassette tapes for them ! They also included some of what became the larger documentary films later on which y’all should react to as well. You’ll love it. I will supply links.

I noticed one thing for the first time. When Remus interferes in the classroom between Harry and his fear (dementor) the dementor changed in to cloud and moon!! which is Remus' fear (being werewolf). All this time I thought the fear dementor was turned in to a peaceful night with a bright moon .... doh .........
His biggest fear was the moon!!!! WOAHHHH!
The place the bus takes Harry to and subsequent scenes is the Leaky Cauldron. They changed a lot of the sets and designs of things from this film like the Hogwarts uniforms and their wands. But they did keep some things like the train, the castle, classrooms etc. the same so it doesn't seem that they've completely changed it
Sirius is an Animagus. They went over it in class. They can choose when to transform. Sirius is the black dog. Lupin is a werewolf and throughout his time in school he used the Shrieking Shack for his transition nights. His screams are why it's called Shrieking Shack. Only the core friend group and Dumbledore knew about it. The friends all were Animagus to be able to spend time with Lupin still when he was a werewolf. I've seen other comments explaining all of their forms and names, plus the map etc. So I wont go into it. But the dog is not Lupin, it's Sirius

Snape also knew about it because as a student he followed them into the shrieking shack.
So, to explain a few things.
1) When they were all in the Shrieking Shack, they were going back and forth because Serious and Lu[in knew that Peter was in the room while in rat form so they were trying to act like they didn't know any better and Serious was "acting" like he had gone mad and was intending to kill harry. If you look closely, when they brought up the subject of Peter, Sabers starts trying to escape from Ron's lap.
2) Most people tend to miss this, but when Snape comes out of the tree and attempts to attack Harry, as soon as he sees Lupin, he immediately shields the kids behind himself. He didn't go for his wand, he didn't try to run away, his first instinct was to but himself in-between Lupin and the students even if it meant dying or being turned into werewolf forever. Its little bits of character development/foreshadowing like that that show that while Snape is a jerk and a bully, he is still a teacher who's priority is the safety of his students. That whole scene did not happen in the books but its one of the many changes the movie makes throughout the story that improves and humanizes the characters more.
3) Another thing that people also miss, the reason why the Dementors are always drawn to harry is because most of his memories are filled with loss, suffering, and trauma. To the Dementors, they see this as "savory".
This is one of my favorites of the series. So happy to watch it again with you. I can’t wait for you to watch the Goblet of Fire next week.

Not sure if anyone else answered this but Sirius was able to escape Azkaban in his dog form. Dementors cannot detect animals in the same way as humans. They are blind and sort of sense human thoughts.
As long as Sirius stayed as a dog he was able to get passed the Dementors. When he saw the newspaper report of the Wesley's winning a competion to visit Egypt he noticed the rat Ron was holding. He knew Ron was Harrys best friend it was in the paper and he recognised Peter Pettigrew. He knew he had to escape and protect Harry. The Newspaper picture was shown in a scene in the Leaky Caldron.
The Harry Potter books were read by so many children and their parents like myself because they are impossible to put down once your start. Gripping story lines characters and a detailed world that draws you in.
My children would line up at bookstores with hundreds of people when each book was published. When the last book came out we ordered it by post. My eldest son went and waited for the postman at the end of our street at 6am in the morning!
He wanted to start reading before school. I picked it up and read it while he was at school.
The Movies are as good as they could be but had to leave a lot out or they would be 6 hours long!

Something that isn’t brought up in the movies that is in the books is that Harry’s eyes in the books are green witch is just like his mothers eyes and because Daniel Radcliffe was allergic to the contacts that would of made his eyes green he couldn’t ware them so they had to take that part out and just have Harry have blue eyes instead.

Sirius Black is an Animagus, same as professor McGonagall and Peter Pettigrew. He can transform into a dog whenever he wants, while Lupin on the other hand has no control over turning into a werewolf in the moonlight. 👍🏼
At the beginning they are at the Leaky Cauldren Pub (which is like a hotel & pub?bar together), which is the muggle way of getting into Diagon Alley. the shopping area & place that has Gringott's bank.
The Leaky Cauldron is a shabby-looking Inn in niggle London which serves as an access point to Diagon Alley

The Leaky Cauldron is like a hotel for wizards in London. It was the place where there was the entrance for the Diagon Alley, when Hagrid and Harry visited it in the first film.
Azkaban is the magical prison. It is an old castle somewhere at the North Sea (northern of the UK).
The dementors were the guardians. They suck the happiness and the joy of every place and the people around them. Azkaban didn’t had cells and chains… etc The prisoners couldn’t escape because of the presence of the Dementors. Marking them depressed and had no interest in life.
J.K. Rowling created those creatures by one of her experiences. Many people have seen nightmares LFC waking up in the night and seeing this around them!
It is recorded form people all around the globe, one specific thing. Waking up and seeing a tall, big “shadow” standing in from of you or at the end of the room. Rowing had seeing a night mate like this and that’s why “Dementors” were born!
Snape mentioned “Dementor’s kiss”
That was like the ultimate penalty for a criminal. The dementor was so close to you and by “kissing” you it could suck your soul. Your body should remain intact and you were still “alive” because your heart was beating and you were breathing and everything but you were something like an empty shell… you couldn’t walk, or talk or speak or think… your body was just existed without a soul

•Sirius Black wasn’t a wolf, he was a black dog. Remus Lupin was a werewolf. The story is long but I’ll try to explain.
James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew were all students at Hogwarts, in the same years. They were best friends.
Remus got attacked by a werewolf and he was “infected” with the wolf-curse. Then, he started to transform into a werewolf each full moon.
Dumbledore was headmaster at that time and he didn’t want Remus to be discriminated by the wizards around him… he wanted to continue his studies at Hogwarts but letting a werewolf among student was extremely dangerous and illegal.
Dumbledore planted the Whomping Willow at Hogwarts and created a secret passage under it. That lead at the Shrieking Shack (the wooden cabin Ron and Hermione were looking at. Do you remember Hermione saying that it was considered the most haunted house in Britain?)
That was because while he was at Hogwarts Remus was transported there to change each full moon!!!
He was taking a magical potion that allowed his to keep his human-side while he was in the wolf form. And he stayed there as long as he was a wolf.
His friends James, Sirius and Peter found a spell and they became animagi. James became a stag (male deer) Sirius became a black dog and Peter became a rat.

•Boggarts and Dementors•
Boggarts were a different magical creature. Harry’s boggart was a dementor because Harry was afraid of them. Each person had it own boggart as any of us fears something did rent the most.
In the books for example we see Molley Weasley’s boggart (Ron’s mum) when Harry was at their house Molley founded a boggart at the wardrobe and it was transformed into 7 dead bodies showing to her the 7 dead bodies of her children…
Her worst fear!
•Now, what happened with Peter, Sirius and Harry’s parents•
When Voldemort was after Harry’s parents they were hiding.
Dumbledore haloed them by giving them instructions to perform a very powerful and curious spell.
(That is was expelled in the books so I’m telling you to help you understand the whole story)
James, Lily and baby Harry Harry chose a house to hide and they made the *Fidelius Charm*.
They hide the secret of their location in one person’s soul.
What does that mean? Even if Voldemort was standing at the front door of their house he couldn’t see the house, he could enter and it was like that location didn’t exist for him.
ONLY IF the person who was the “keeper of the secret” was telling you their location *WITH HIS WILL* you could find their location!
It doesn’t matter if Voldemort tortured you to say it… only if you would say it willingly, Voldemort could go there.
James and Lily wanted Sirius to be the keeper of the secret because they knew that he would never revealed their location BUT Sirius did a terrible mistake. Sirius proposed to Peter Pettigrew to be the keeper of the secret because they trusted him as a friend…
Siri’s said that Voldemort knew that Sirius was their best fiend, so it would be greater to hide the secret into another person. So, as long as Voldemort could hunt Sirius for the secret, Peter would be the one true keeper of the secret being undetected!!!
But Peter was a traitor… the moment they made him the Kepler of the secret, Peter went straight to Voldemort and betrayed them.
Then Voldie went there and killed them…
Then Sirius tried to kill Peter for that!
But Peter staged his death. He escaped with his rat form and hide at the Weasleys for 12 years!
•Patronus•
Patronus could take two forms.
One of them was the shield-form, crediting a barrier of light and not letting the dementor affect you.
The other form was the corporeal form when your dementor had the form of an animal.
Again, each person had a different patronus!
Harry’s patronus was a stag, Hermione’s was an otter, Remus’ was a wolf, Ron’s was a dog…etc

"Sirius" is the name of a star - the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major - "The Big Dog". And so "Sirius" is often called, "The Dog Star". Also happens to be the origin of the phrase "dog days of Summer" - when the days are especially hot. People used to believe that the extra heat was coming from Sirius, which is the visibly brightest star in the night sky.
"Albus" means "white". "Rubeus" means "red" (like "ruby"). And "Black" means "black".
Professor Sprout is the herbology teacher.
Sybil Trelawny is the divination teacher - "Sybil" being the name of an oracle from Greek mythology, IIRC.
"Voldemort" means "fly from death" and "Malfoy" means "bad faith" in French (perhaps slightly modified).
And "Pettigrew" is Estonian for "rat".
OK, I made that last one up.

Actually the first spell harry did was Maxima which means creating light while the one that protect us from dementors is expecto patronum which provides protections so those are two different magical spells
I never noticed this till a bit sho but the scene where Harry is watching the map you can notice that where Harrt is going two steps at a time versus Peters 4 steps at a time should have given a clue what he was

Love these reactions. 🔥Got me back reading the books again. Gonna be playing the hell outta the new game when it drops later today. Seriously tho reading the books is lowkey required not tryna sound like one of those gatekeeper fans cuz I love the movies myself and love that y'all enjoy them but really the series just ain't the same unless you read the books too. There's just so much to this world you would never know. Like 80% is left out or changed. The game just came out today and just like when I read the books I'm about to escape this reality and immerse myself in the wizarding world.
The Knight Bus has protective enchantments on it to keep muggles from seeing it. Most magic buildings and locations do. Hogwarts fir example looks like a dangerous, crumbling ruin if a muggle happens to stumble into the area.
There's a really great scene in ths book that didn't make it into the movie where Harry gets some epic payback on Draco. Harry also got his Firebolt from Sirius a lot earlier in the book and flew it in some Quidditch matches. That's why I highly recommend reading or listening to the books once someone finishes the movies. It's like going on a slightly different adventure.
Remus Lupin was attacked by a werewolf named Fenrir Greyback when he was a kid. His changes were uncontrolled so he had to be contained every full moon. Years later someone invented a Wolfsbane potion that helped Lupin retain most of himself while in werewolf form. He would curl up somewhere until it passed without worrying that he would attack anyone. When he saw Pettigrew on the map with the trio as well as Sirius, he ran to find them. However, he missed taking his potion. Snape brought it to his office and saw the open map and went after them as well.

that's why the Boggart turned into a full moon when Professor Lupin jumped in front of Harry. Lupin's biggest fear was a full moon because he's a werewolf

Sirius escaped Azkaban when he saw Scabbers in the Weasley's vacation pic, missing one of his toes. He realized Peter was alive and had been hiding as Scabbers the last 12 years. Sirius escaped by changing into Padfoot, a form the dementors didn't recognize

When Lupin jumps in front of Harry’s boggart dementor, the boggart takes on the guise of what Lupin fears most: a full moon that he then turns into a balloon
lupin is a werewolf, pettigrew and sirius are animagus, they became animagus along with harry’s dad
to help lupin when he would turn into a werewolf (harry’s dad was a stag,
like his patronus). a key difference between werewolves and an animagus is that werewolves can’t turn at will, the others can.
Lupin is a werewolf, Sirius is an Animagus like Pettigrew. Essentially a werewolf is forced to turn, an animagus is more of a shape-shifter, though they each have only one animal they can transform into. Sirius' just happens to be a dog. A werewolf becomes completely feral without wolfsbane potion, but an animagus is still essentially themselves.
this one will always be my favorite. Probably because its the one I owned and watched over and over again. But I also just think the director did something really special with this movie and I always felt curious what he would have done if he directed the rest of the movies. I think he would have done a great job.

love the reactions so far but kind of wish you paid more attention to context clues sometimes lol. it should have been easy to understand that sirius wasnt actually a bad guy ad he wasnt after Harry as soon as Peter Pettigrew was shown to be alive. Also Ron literally said that sirius black was the dog and he is an animagus
