I live in South Florida and have the pleasure of watching these majestic animals hunt throughout the day. I always have my eyes to the sky searching for "fish hawks".
Miami boy here. I love ospreys. There's one by my house that loves diving into the water just for fun. He'll even just hang out in the water for minutes at a time. Sometimes he'll just sit in the shallow end and wet hit head and wings over and over on a hot day. They're my favorite bird of prey!
No one else has commented on the scene in which the osprey is apparently drying his feathers in mid-flight. (1:45) What an amazing surprise the videographer caught!
Makes us realize that as human predators of fish we have it easy. I've helped several Osprey birds recover from injuries and I've taken them fishing. Several of the heald birds were smart enough to know that a fishing pole brought up fish and would fly to it and land on it later.
This is actually somehow very disturbing when human using motorboats too much that the birds couldnt hunt.. Another exhausted summer for ospreys they said...
They're very common in my area, see them everywhere nesting on platforms made for them as well. Bald Eagles are also common here, and Red Tailed Hawks are perhaps the most common raptor, pretty much in any habitat in fact.
A few days ago I saw an Osprey fly by the balcony I was on. There was about 25kt wind from storm and he had two fish, one in each talon. He flew by so slow it was like he was in slow motion.
I have a couple by my apartment in Seattle area and I thought it was an eagle it was so big. After searching with the m shaped wings it's an osprey. Since it was bigger then a hawk I assumed it was an eagle.
The video of the osprey catching that fish was amazing; your comment about increased boat traffic encroaching of its hunting efforts bothered me. When will we consider the impact of our activities on the wildlife around us?
They seem to Very Used to 👥 & 🚗 area that Really surprised me~(I 💙 them Don't eat other's 🐣 though theirs often being grabbed by owls or falcon & eagles that kind... 💔 )
How did they evolve to develop such a dangerpus method of catching fish? The bald eagle has a much safer form of retrieval ( although they too also get it wrong). Why not pluck the fish instead of dive bombing it?
Why not dive bomb for the fish while everyone else around is waiting for the fish to come closer to the surface where they can pluck it? Or be the eagle who, more often than not, just steals the fish from the osprey? Let someone else do the dive bombing.
The osprey goes to the lake and finds the fish have gone too deep for him, chased away by the swarm of motorboats. "Don't despair, little osprey! There are a million other places for you to hunt," says a kindly boatman. So the osprey goes to the river and finds the fish have gone too deep for him, chased away by the swarm of motorboats. I often see an osprey flying over my house with his catch from the lake down the street. Can't appreciate these birds enough
That was an amazing mid-flight "dog shake" to get his feathers dry!
Keith Durant i thought it was a glitch :D
At first so did I then you see the head rocking counter to the body....if it was a beagle you would see the ears flying!
TOTALLY WET DOG!
awesome
01:36 yea lol

Seen this happen last week, absolutely amazing.
U rly can feel how much strength the osprey requires to lift itself out of the water with its catch
I thought the dive into the water was brilliant and the best thing in the video and then boom!! Every single shot after it was incredible.
the way they shake off the water like a dog - in mid-air - is something i havent seen before. crazy stuff
1:43 Tripped me up when I watched the 'dog shake' for the first time lol
Gorgeous Osprey ❤
Brilliant photography! I ❤️ Ospreys!
I saw this play out yesterday. Lake Guntersville, Al. Amazing bird.
That was great, thank you for sharing. 👍😎

I had the privilege of watching an Osprey catch a fish just 100 yards from our dock at our lake cabin. It was just like this video.
Wow! It takes a lot of effort to fly out of the water, let alone being wet and carrying a catch.
An assault weapon for land, air and water, US army needs this.
Well they have obviously good eye sight , so just had to watch dad :-)

I just lifted myself off the step to help him …😝…..🦅❤️
The Osprey is magnificent raptor

Now I 've understood where Will Ospreay's high flying skills came from
Fest bird fisherman, best video, best narration. Thanks

We have these in Florida
Unbelievable animals!

Cool👍
Wow
WoW! Damn humans have to ruin everything.
Osprey of US navy can't even dive lol
No, but it's a very capable aircraft
What lake is that?
Why no captions?

Awww so sad.
Wow man thats soo cool
I really want a pet like that
Cheaters get caught On the spot hope you're kidding
Cheaters get caught On the spot that escalated quickly
this is what the plane is named after?
Yes sir. There is a long tradition of naming warplanes after bids of prey. (Harrier, Osprey, Eagle, etc.)
How did they evolve to develop such a dangerpus method of catching fish? The bald eagle has a much safer form of retrieval ( although they too also get it wrong).
Why not pluck the fish instead of dive bombing it?
Raymond Jones they can go deep into the water to catch witch gives the prey a much harder time escaping
Why not dive bomb for the fish while everyone else around is waiting for the fish to come closer to the surface where they can pluck it?
Or be the eagle who, more often than not, just steals the fish from the osprey? Let someone else do the dive bombing.
I live in maine,we have osprey and boats. There's a million other places for them to hunt. They have better luck on rivers anywyas.

Although this video footage was very cool, the commentary just stressed me out a little. You should have given this a more honest title.
Marie Soleil it just seemed like the commentary was making a point about how the Osprey is affected by human activity on the water.
Notice meeeeee
