I used to work as a temp in Utqiakvik Alaska. I always brought dried beans/peas. They make delicious soups and stews, even cold ones like black bean soup.

Food is definitely more expensive in Hawaii overall. We have traveled back and forth to Oahu around 10 - 12 times over the past 17 years and notice it each time. We are coming from San Francisco, which is also quite expensive so the sticker shock is a little less for us. Also, right now, prices are going up quickly here as well. You give some good comparisons and suggestions! Thanks you!

Thanks for the comment! Yup I believe CA runs a close second when it comes to food cost.

With all the BS money we have given to Ukraine and waste on other countries, the government should cover the costs of shipping items to Hawaii and make it affordable over here. It really is insane. The options in Hilo are very limited. Just KTA, Foodland, Malama, Target, Sack N Save and Walmart. Costco is in Kona (1.5 hours away) This video is a year old, prices are even higher now.

Ridiculous political influence. Haleakala Dairy with processed plant in Oahu sent to Japan and back to Maui and guess who gets shipping cost. Thanks Union.
