  • Welcome back too my workshop 😁
In todays video i have a close look at the Trend Pocket Hole Jig.
I have had this ‪@TrendToolTechnology‬ jig for about a year now and finally have a chance to review it.
I explain what a pocket hole joint is and where you would use it.
I hope you like the video and possibly learn a little bit 😁.
If you did like it, please like and subscribe or share the video as it would really help out my little channel.
    Thanks for watching 😁👍

😁 Thanks Jim. Sometimes a pocket hole joint is just what you need. I still love my older one (it dose the job) but this new one should be a great addition to the workshop. Thanks for watching 😁👍

It looks a well made jig Frank, it didn't deform when the cramp was applied. Good design being able to adjust the distance between the two holes. Good demo. Tony

Good demonstration of what happens inside the wood. Can pull straight through on mdf but really strong joint on timber.

😁 Thanks Ben. Its nice to see exactly what it looks like inside just to understand how it actually works. Thanks for watching 😁👍

Nice vid Frank. I’ve got the same jig, use it all the time, very useful, not so great on mdf unless it’s something I’m doing wrong.👍

😁 Thanks Allan. Obviously you can use then on mdf but it is never going to be very strong due to the internal structure of the material. On mdf I would really only use them in combination with glue to hold a joint together while the glue is drying. Never rely on them for strength with mdf. Thanks for watching Allan 😁👍

Looks solid though the lack of dust extraction is a little oversight. I suppose all the other companies have to be careful to avoid Kreg's patents ;)

Shame there is no height adjustment on that jig so no good if i wanted to use it to joining 38mm timber as the holes would be too close to the edge and not centred

2:35 that is called a Robinson drive they use it a lot in Canada 🇨🇦 has a much higher torque than a pozi drive which helps pull your wood/ materials together

😁 Thanks for the info Tacka73, I've never used one before. But I can see how it would have better torque transfer than a pozi or a phillips 😁. Thanks for watching 😁👍

Most advice on pocket hole joinery advise not drilling the hole from the “inside” of the connection, like in your Festool cart, because you are screwing towards the outside edge of the material you are connecting to. They say drilling from the outside, so that one screws into the body of the material is the ideal.
I’ve done a modest amount of pocket hole joinery such as radiator covers, boxing in pipes etc, built in shelves and I’ve never had any problem at all drilling “inside” rather than outside the piece for the obvious aesthetic reasons. That said, none of my ‘joinery’ for those purposes was bearing any great load. I love pocket hole screws for the speed of knocking jobs like those on the head in minutes rather than hours.

😁 Thanks D. You are 100% correct. Good advice is NOT to drill toward the outer edge. The idea of this video is just an introduction to pocket hole joinery for those that have never used them. The Festool carts are not very structural but they are still surprisingly strong. I assume there is no risk of end grain split due to the laminations of the ply. But you are right that drilling from the inside is not as good as drilling from the outside. Thanks for watching D 😁👍
