    The glitter paper from dollar tree isn't card stock. It's actually sticker paper, and it's kind of plastic. So, no. It doesn't work very well with complicated dies. However the sticky is on the low tack side.

    Hey Mary! The secret to success with the Dollar Tree vinyl is to cut it on the WASHI SHEET setting using less pressure and using the light grip mat. It's too thin for anything stronger than that. Also, avoid intricate designs. I generally use it for basic fonts on signs, etc.
    I loved seeing your take on these items. Thank you.

    Dollar Tree or Dollarama also carry glitter sticker sheets. 5 to a pack. They’re really thin so hard to use as is. I stick them on my cheap white cardstock and now I have glitter cardstock! If you look at their poster board section sometimes they sell metallic mirror poster cardstocks too.

    Hi Mary! The reason you got such a well stocked Dollar Tree is that their Headquarters is in Virginia. I have had my challenges with that glitter cardstock as well. However, I found the glittery stuff peels off to reveal a shiny cardstock, which I used from a leaf diecut and it looked really good. But solid images work the best for keeping the glitter. Thanks for your tips. Appreciate how you look out for us!

    I have a Maker, and the vinyl is fine. I think you made the error. I do not know if the Joy allows the user to adjust the pressure settings, but that is an option for Maker users. It looks like you used glitter paper, not cardstock, in your die cutting test. They are not the same thing. Lastly, I like the Cricut tool dupes better than the Cricut tools! The weeder and scraper are fantastic.

    Great video! I’ll have to look for the butterfly ephemera…cute! I’ve never used Dollar Tree’s glitter cardstock and you may already be aware of this, but here’s something I learned from the Gemini manual (“Using Shims” and “Cutting Very Intricate Dies”) and a tutorial by Sara Davies of Crafter’s Companion: For a stronger cut with any glitter cardstock and an intricate die with the Gemini, it’s recommended to have the cutting side of the die facing the metal shim. That way it acts like scissors, metal on metal. So the sandwich I now use (from the bottom up) is clear cutting plate, magnetic shim, plastic shim, die (blade side up), glitter card, metal shim, and clear cutting plate. And sometimes I pass it through twice. This was a game changer for me for intricate cuts with glitter card.

    When I use the DT vinyl (not the glitter ones) I cut it on washi tape setting and reduce the blade pressure to the lowest (70). Cuts like butter. But don't try thin or tiny cuts... it's a nightmare!!

  • @olivia8979
    @olivia8979 2 года назад +12

    For the Cricut... it is probably the cut setting you used. For each material, you have to test the cut settings. You can pick a different material type or finely adjust the cut settings. I have a Maker, but I assume that is true for the Joy as well. So even if you have the most expensive vinyl you can find, it might be slightly different and may require slightly different cut settings.
    I rarely go to the Dollar Tree. I should go have a browse!

    • @olivia8979
      @olivia8979 2 года назад +3

      Part 2 of this post... The easiest thing to try first is to select the material type as vinyl, but then select Less Pressure before you cut. If that doesn't work then you need to find a cut setting that has less pressure.
      And by the way, if you ever have trouble getting good cuts from paper use the setting for cardstock for intricate cuts.

      She used a Gemini, a much more advanced die cutter machine versus “The Maker”! Who started that nickname anyway??

    • @olivia8979
      @olivia8979 2 года назад +1

      @@tonyarodgers-beute8537 Tonya, go to timestamp 7:40 where she uses the Cricut Joy.
      You think the Gemini is more advanced than the Cricut? I have nothing against the Gemini, but it does one thing. It cuts from relatively small pieces of paper and a small number of other materials. The Cricut can do much more than that, and will allow you to cut your own designs in any size up to 12" wide. "The Maker" is not a nickname! It is the manufacturer's name of one of the Cricut models.

    Mary, the glitter "cardstock" is a peel off film, very thin and the colors will bleed if touched with humid hands. I made a card in blue and the color stained my dies, which I don't care having my metal dies in color. I was able to get very intricate cuts after peeling the glitter film and pressing it in my base cardstock, it cut like butter.
    I'm talking of the glitter sheets that come 3 in a pack.

    This is in regards to the glitter cardstock. I have found that any glitter sheets with the shiny backing paper is just about impossible to cut intricate dies. It does not matter what the price point of the glitter cardstock is. I have tried many brands and they all cut poorly. I use the Anna Griffin Empress machine. The problem is the backing paper. I really fine this annoying. The manufaturers need to do betters. I had some foiled adhesive sheets from Paper Wishes that gave me the same issue. They were about 4x9 size. I finally slowly peeled the backing off and adhered them to thin white cardstock. They cut great after that with intricate dies. Hope this suggestion helps if you really want to use detailed dies. I would try this with 8x10 glitter sheets but not sure about 12x12. Unless you cut just the size you need and put on thin white cardstock first. Love your channel.

    I have always enjoyed your craft videos and this was no exception. You are a very good instructor and a pleasure to listen to. I thought this was a very informative video. I shop at Dollar Tree for crafts and have been pretty happy with a lot of the products. Last time I checked mine - no dies or stamps but hope springs eternal! I have purchased their stickers which can be amazing and those strips of bead embellishments are stunning and versatile. Sometimes I marvel that I can create such beautiful pieces “on the cheap” like this. Also wanted to thank you for showing me how I can use those faux wood die cuts. I never thought to emboss them but that is genius. (I am always amazed at new ideas like this and think to myself-why didn’t I think of that?) I am definitely doing that with the myriad of wooden pieces I have. Last but not least, the cards, sign, and wall art you made are so creative. Those butterflies were the perfect touch to your wall art. I can also imagine using those to make wall art just by themselves in some kind of pattern on the wall adhered with those command strip thingies or as a wreath. I love butterflies. Thank you for a very fun and inspiring video Mary. God bless you. P.S. I am checking out that glass magnetic mat. I think I have had every mat known to mankind. I should do a review -but a large glass magnet mat? Sounds like the pinnacle of greatness as far as I am concerned. Thanks for sharing that discount too. PPS: just bought the mat! woo hoo!

Aside from that review, I've heard nothing but great things from those who got it. I'm so glad my sharing could be a source of inspiration! YAY! Enjoy all your goodies.

    Great reviews! I tried both the smooth and the glitter vinyl from DT, I used the washi tape setting for the glitter, regular for the smooth. With the smooth I was able to get a more intricate design. The smooth transferred perfectly with a little extra burnishing. The glitter, however, wouldn't stick to any of my transfer tapes no matter how hard I tried, so I agree, good as a sticker only. I encourage you to try the other vinyls, can't beat the price for the amount you get. Thanks again, enjoyed the reviews!

    I got that glitter paper and it made me say very bad words. 😂I used dies and also tried it with my Cameo and had the same results you did. It also came off of my card (once it was all done 😡🤬) because I didn't add additional adhesive. I got the flower border die (it's the only die or stamp I've ever seen in any of the Dollar Trees by me). It's pretty cute and it works well in my Platinum 6. I never knew that using pigment inks on an acrylic/silicone stamp would make such a difference. Thank you! Where did you find the spray bottles (which section)? That cheap glitter cardstock and the vinyl, I had better luck die cutting if I put a sheet of paper directly under it. My Cameo didn't care for it much either, but I was able to eventually cut it with lots of adjustment, but it ruined the blade. Worst part was, it didn't stick for crap.

    We don t have dollar tree in our country,but we have action with craft releated materials.I saw these product were simular to the action.And Also the same results.The glitter paper did not diecut very well to.I was so amazed they have more or less the same products I will not buy the stamps again.They don t stick to blocks I put them on Disapponting but they were cheap.I personal choose to only use the products at the action I have tried.There is a lot of junk to.I want to use first what I have.But a review like this is very rewarding to many Thank you for sharing.

      The stamps are not good quality but if you have nothing else there are tricks you can make them work. I would try a little tacky glue (like Tombow green bottle) and let it dry. It will dry sticky and will stay on the blocks.

    I have a bunch of silicone stamps from Dollar Tree and it really helps to rub an eraser over the stamps before you use them..,.makes the ink stick well. I their stickers. The wooden things you have--I've seen people put a push pin in them and use them as stamps or for texture on a gelli plate. I have had no luck with their stencils at all. They are super thin and just not great

    Thanks for this video, I love those butterflies, I need to use them lol. We never had the stamps or dies at my dollar tree, unless they sold out before I get there. I love versafine Clare for stamping, doesn’t matter what the stamp is made from, they always stamp great.

    Mary, thank you for sharing your projects and products with us! In my city, Dollar Tree and Harbor Freight have been delightful resources for craft supplies, craft tools, and craft supply storage.
    I first spotted those butterfly stickers (in Blue Morpho and Monarch!) at one of my local DTs in 2017, and used the blue ones to decorate a wine bottle. They started adding colors about three years ago, and I bought a few every time I saw them. I used to use them on every card I made, but I haven't seen them in stocks for months, so now I'm hoarding them instead of sharing😞☹️😞. They have a great selection of stickers now, but the dimensional glitter ones are still my favorites. I love a previous commenter's amazing idea, to separate the layers, using just the acetate layer on projects (I love both layers, though!).
    I've had the glitter sticker paper for an age, but haven't been sure how to use it. Thank you for the tip to back it with cardstock.
    The butterfly ephemera packs are so beautiful! I hope they will be available here.
    DT's crafting tools are better than expected. Here are just two examples: The little pink-handled detail ("fussy-cutting") scissors are much sturdier than they look, so they cut well. I've used their dry adhesives for years, with no complaints. I'm going to have to test them for tearability. If they can be torn, they will be perfect!
    The dies used to be in my stores, but I hesitated (I spend a ridiculous amount of money in DT), now they are never in stock.
    Thank you for showing us that some cheaper alternatives to our niche crafting supplies can work well.

    Nice Video, thanks.
    If you want to make a nice image with the dye ink on your cheaper stamps you can use a transparent embossing ink ( versamark ) first, the dye ink will stick to the versamark and give a goood impressing. Love Aya

    TFS....interesting! Good to know about DT's glitter paper and vinyl. Did the glitter paper shed at all?
    I bought those butterfly stickers and plan to use them on cards soon....and also plan to add some adhesive to them as a back up b/c I don't trust the cheap adhesive that some products are likely made with.

    I use the Alene's glue that I get at Dollar Tree. I think it's 3-4 ounces & I've used it for years. The key is to use just a tiny amount.

    Heyyyy… thanks for the information. I buy things from Dollar Tree because I live 45 miles from Michael’s and JoAnne’s; I refuse to shop at Hobby Lobby because of their politics. I do shop online, but sometimes it’s nice to look at and touch an item. I buy stickers, Modpodge, tools, and other basics. I use the vinyl that is intended for a Cricut to make trims, cover cardboard, etc. when making gift boxes. I have a Silhouette, but I haven’t talked myself into trying it there. Again, thanks for the reviews. 👍🏻
