Good to see a lot of coaches using this method with their athletes. Both my coach, KOM coaching, and Ed Laverack are big believers in using volume to train for such a short effort
You're probably right. Riding chaintight everywhere at 220 is tempting but then 4 or 5hrs at that pace does fatigue ur legs and if that affects doing ur v02 intervals the next day then whats the point. Better to tap round at 180 190
Tim Cusick of Training Peaks advises riding at the bottom of the target zone. The zones are differentiated because they generally target different energy systems, so riding at the bottom of Z2 at 170W is roughly working the same system as at the top at 220W. Riding at the bottom allows for considerably more volume, so more time in the zone stressing the desired energy system without accumulating excess fatigue. Obviously there is room for exceptions, but holds as a general rule. This can be hard, especially for us who love to smash hillclimbs!
do you reckon a WT pro would walk the hill climb nationals? like what is feather doing? 9/9.5 wkg for 3 minutes? Pog can do that after 200km cant he.. or am a chatting shite. And he'll only rarely train those sort of efforts. Zone 2 volume all the way
3 mins feather does 9w/kg which is mad. I think a fair few world tour pros could win nationals with no additional training . I think the rest of them unless they trained especially for it probably wouldn't as it's such an odd effort
You in luck - here it is open.spotify.com/episode/1DR4ohezun9I22l97x182h?si=ppDm4vnbSgmMEPVGTfzn8A&context=spotify%3Ashow%3A3qwS8TlEOfAdwtnX7qaEEL&dl_branch=1
Isn't the general approach to do LSD stuff months before the event and to increase intensity and specificity closer to the event? Not a criticism. But I can't wrap my head around your training peaks log
Yh it is, however my training this summer has been bit chaotic. Also I am doing decent intensity atm and I still have 2 months until my peak. Guess we'll see at end of October if it works or not

I was expecting "aight, just whack it"
Emmie who holds the QOM is predominantly an mountain runner :)
tbh on the day that is the best strategy - if you not seeing 500w when you look down you aren't going hard enough
Anything to do with hill climbing is a winner for me.

My hr was low 130s at like 210, but maybe I should just go even slower than that

Charlie you are a beast...my FTP is 4wkg but my top end power for 3 mins is barely 6wkg!!
