as a metalhead, although that sounds nice... you gotta consider that a lot of music becomes better with metal. Shown by Nik Nocturnal... Not trying to go against you, but just something to consider.
And this piece/ role isn't just for any old soprano, but specifically a 'dramatic coloratura soprano', one who can handle music with lots of runs, trills and leaps especially well. The dramatic part means that they are able to sing so high (an F6) while also sustaining incredible breath control and sustaining power
I would very much want to watch a heavy metal version of The Magic Flute. The Aria is DARK, man. It even has an extremely metal title that translates to Hell's Vengeance Boils in my Heart. In context, The Queen of the Night, in a vengeful rage puts a knife in her daughter (and main character along with another guy named Tamino) Pamina's hand and tells her to assassinate Sarastro, the queen's rival or else she will curse and disown her. It's a tense moment, is extremely metal and I'm SO effing happy you chose to use Diana Damrau's version, as it is by far my favorite. Opera was the heavy metal of its day. Epic and often dark and controversial. I've always thought Phantom of the Opera would make an amazing metal opera. Nightwish already did a rendition of the title song and it is bloody phenomenal.
If you like classical music, you have to listen to Wolf Hoffmann's Longplayer "Headbangers Symphony" and "Classical". He's the guitarist of Accept and interprets classical songs with electric guitar such as "Hall of the mountain King", "The Moldau" or "Habanera" (Carmen).
Here ya go, man. Other artists to check out that blend Classical and Metal (not just Neoclassical Metal) are Dark Moor, Epica, Dan Mumm, and Haggard. ruclips.net/video/joTZrFKiKLU/видео.html
My parents are both huge opera fans and I grew up listening The Magic Flute. I have wanted a metal version of it for a while so thank you for finally making it a reality.
Diana Damrau isn’t known for darker, serious roles like this. She mainly does fun, happy roles in comedy/romance operas that fit her coloratura voice. Lots of Rossini. But she just so happens to be the best in the world at this particular aria. She’s flown all over the world to perform this. My mom, a long time opera student, was shocked when I told her of this video. “Diana? Singing Mozart? No way”. But she watched it, and… yeah.
yeah well, I kinda suggest u see Marco Meatball, the guy is an ex opera singer, and welp, he analizes game music, nostly genshin impact music, he keeps saying that "classical music" evolution is the addition of guitars and heavy metal to orchestras
Basically me. I've been a Metalhead for 15 years and Classical/Orchestral composer for 15 years too. I love both Technical Death Metal, Progressive Metal, Dsbm, Gothic Metal, Deathrock, and Goth Rock, but then I love Classical music, and Orchestral music as well. They both go together great. Classical Brutal Technical Symphonic Death Metal 😅
Love how you combined the accents and pulse of the original piece with metal drum patterns instead of just slapping on a run-of-the-mill metal rhythm pattern and calling it a day. Much love, Beadley
Another piece that is very metal is the Dies Irae (Day of Wrath) from Verdi's Requiem. The RUclips video of Bernstein conducting is an excellent one. I's always been one of my favorites.
This is one reason I love Nightwish and guitarists like Yngwie. The "classical" sound and rock/metal feel just really goes well together for me. I can say the same with many power metal bands too, or are they symphonic metal? Neo classical? I'm not very familiar with the technicalities but I think you get my point. It's also why Afterlife is my favourite Avenged Sevenfold song, and why I love Galneryus' Angel of Salvation among many others. Music is all inter-related. Genre mashups can be done beautifully, and are always welcome in my book. And I honestly wouldn't have started listening to classical stuff had it not been for the metal music I listened to.
Absolutely brilliant! And this proves that there are stylistic avenues available to modern metal vocalists who are seeking alternatives to the ubiquitous cookie-monster-on-steroids status quo. Staccato head voice lines rock! :)
I just listen to Symphonic Metal, like Septic Flesh (Symphony Orchestra/Concert Music + Death/Doom Metal), Carach Angren (Horror Score + Black Metal), Hevein (Chamber Music + Thrash/Groove Metal), Nightwish (Opera/Folk music + Metal), Blackthorn (Gothic Opera/Electric Violin + Black Metal/Melodic Deathmetal) etc. I love them, and this gives Nightwish vibes. I personally make thrash with classical/orchestral elements, using the EHX mel9 as an organ/mellotron, and occasional scores using section instruments, like my voice for choirs and an Ebow or a Cello, for strings.
Being raised on Classical/Opera from my mum and Rock by my father - it is no wonder I loved Metal! I even back in the 80's had told her that you CAN metal up opera (king Diamond, Doro Pech and many others) and she looked at me like I had gone mad! This is a perfect example!! Thank you!!! And BTW this is one of my favourite operas and tickled giddy that you did this!
The best part of this video (or anyone in which he uses that wig) is that Bradley very much look alike Tom Hulce's version of Mozart, in 1984 Amadeus. A crystal meth Tom Hulce's Mozart, to be more precise, but still.
Absolutely. Its all there. Thematic variation, counterpoint, polyrythmic effects, layering of instrumentation. Listening to classical improves your appreciation of metal and vice versa.
That was awesome. Great interpretation on drums and guitar. I really liked how everything you added was spot on and the mix was great too. Fantastic work. That looked like a lot of fun even though I know how much work must have gone into it. I loved that you didn't go the obvious path and choose a classical piece that was all dark and minor. I just chuck Dimmu on when I want that. The piece of opera you chose was major and bright and uplifting and heavy as fk at the same time. Bravo maestro!
One of my favorite bands is Haggard and you just made a Haggard song. This is awesome and I would love more like this. Off-topic, I've seen multiple versions of this specific opera scene. Why the costume designer in this version decided to make every woman look like Jerry Only from the Misfits.... is just beyond me.
I always loved the idea of playing classical music like _Hungarian Rhapsody #2_ by Franz Liszt or Ludwig von _Beethoven's 5th Symphony_ with heavy distortion guitars (and also playing Heavy Metal on piano, like Randy Rhoads/Bob Daisley's _Crazy Train_ and the song _Black Sabbath_ from the album _Black Sabbath_ by the band _Black Sabbath_ ...), and also playing _Etude #3 in G# Minor (La Campanella)_ , also by Franz Liszt, on the acoustic guitar ... then Steve Vai and Ry Cooder did _Paganini's 5th Caprice_ in the film _Crossroads_ in 1986 ... then _Savatage_ came out with _Prelude to Madness_ in 1987, then went on to form the _Trans-Sibearian Orchestra_ ... *It never gets old* ... Don't even get me started on Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's _Marche Slave_ ...
Brilliant! For anyone that's studied music, or played a classical instrument, they already know this. Try explaining it to some people though, even fans of metal.
From anecdotal evidence I can say that nearly every metal fan I know likes different types of old and classical music as well. It's the depth and complexity of these types of music that speaks to people who want music that's not just some background noise but really speaks to them throughout their lives.
A classic example of this is Swan Song ruclips.net/video/dcMVtrvpJpk/видео.html by this classically-trained pianist who doubles as a heavy metal guitarist. In this song, she seamlessly switches from Chopin on grand piano intro, to heavy metal on guitar, (with the grand piano classical music backing track in between) to a Dvorak+ themed outro. Last week, she dropped her Helloween Eagle Fly Free arrangements ruclips.net/video/-h3BLRs0Xr4/видео.html from her new EP featuring: 1. Battery (METALLICA) 2. Far Beyond The Sun (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) 3. Eagle Fly Free (HELLOWEEN) 4. The Loner (GARY MOORE) 5. Burn (DEEP PURPLE) 6. Addicted (LOVEBITES)
Musically, this was epic! But the conclusion is wrong: if you can mash together two gendres it doesn't mean they are the same. If it was a valid conclusion, then Kiffness' work would prove that all pop music is just cat meows.

I think metal heads like lots of types of music, but they feel like they should only listen to metal. “I love ABBA! They invented post ironic porcelain metal!”
Fair point. When you think about it, Igor Stravinsky's Firebird Suite is the most metal music every created. It debut performance resulted in a riot over the audience being unable to come to grips with what they were hearing.
Okay, Now I wanna hear that Aria with some Vocal Fry. Also, when you consider the lyrics are basically "Kill your lover Serratso or I will disown you." dark lyrics to totally fit metal.

Amazing to see how classical music was influenced by metal. Never realized!
