I remember playing Survival Games in Lifeboat when I was in elementary school, definitely was one of the greatest experiences. After seeing Hive with Survival Games I was hyped and I liked it so much I maxed the game in 23 days, one of the first games for me to play every time made whole loads of memories and I'm forever grateful for how Survival Games was to my Minecraft life
Lifeboat Survival Games man... I remember my brother and I would always play it together and try to get to deathmatch and then fight to the end. Good times man good times
Hive was pretty much the last hope for SG by adding in never-before seen mechanics, but the playerbase quickly dwindled as people just moved on to other gamemodes
@@NimrodPepega SG was one of the most popular games for years, and some servers were filled with thousands just playing. It dying now doesn’t mean it wasn’t huge
I think it was big RUclipsrs who kept the game mode alive for so long. In the Java world where captainsparklez partnered with Mineplex to make tons of SG videos, once he stopped the gamemode died not too long after. You don’t see too many mini game Minecraft RUclipsrs anymore
This truly was the best era of minecraft, both as a player and a viewer of minecraft videos. Not just SG, but all content alike just felt so much more lively and unique. I think you're right about attention spans having changed drastically and I feel that it's impacted both how viewers enjoy videos as well as how creators make them. It's sad really, I wish things were more how they were a decade ago
It's interesting, I was playing on nearly all of the remaining SG servers mentioned in this video up until their removals, So I was able to witness their decreasing player counts first hand. Lifeboat and Java CubeCraft were definitely the most blatantly obvious ones, Cause Lifeboat prior to revamping the gamemode was extremely laggy and that caused more and more people to stop playing altogether, And Java CubeCraft was already declining in players server wide so it made sense that their SG gamemode had next to no playerbase. But the most bizarre case for me was definitely MCCentral's decline, Cause that was the dominant SG server on Java for nearly four years straight, And it definitely had one of the more active communities compared to the rest. But then it completely fell off the face of the earth once one of the major updates revamped the hub era and reset everyone's stats back to 0. (It also changed the kit system and made everyone have to pay for them again). After that it only took a few weeks before the playerbase died out completely. A bizarre, But in hindsight understandable decline. So now all we're left with is Bedrock CubeCraft, The Hive, Current LBSG, and on the Java side of things Hypixel's Blitz SG gamemode... And that's basically it. Why exactly this happened I will never know, You could probably attribute the shutdowns of MCSG and Badlion to its early signs of decline, I also have no doubt that Lifeboat's terrible server updates played a massive part in its decline, Not to mention the rise in gamemodes such as Sky Wars, EggWars, Bed Wars, and UHC that undeniably stole its position of being the most popular PVP gamemode. I don't think it's impossible for the gamemode to have a resurgence in popularity, But it'll more than likely have to be updated in some kind of fashion cause its clear that the traditional SG gamemode no longer interests people these days. But whatever the case may be, I'll still remain as one of the only people with a current long running Survival Games series, Cause I still can't get enough of it somehow lol
Survival Games was easily one of the greatest games I’ve played especially on Lifeboat. I remember watching a multitude of Bajan’s videos including the music video that he was in. It honestly hurts to see SG dying out despite all the memories that were placed onto it
Along with SG, other og mini games like spleef and the walls have also been unable to evade time's arrow. I miss adventure maps and old mod packs that added depth to the game in a totally unique but still fitting way. Something about old MC was just different. It was simpler and yet that almost made the game feel more fulfilling. The community felt more whole and it was like everyone was discovering together just how far we could push the limits of what was possible of being achieved in this basic sandbox cube game. Maybe it's because of how development changed after microsoft took over. Maybe it's because the game just got old and enough of the mystery was uncovered. Or maybe many of us just aren't looking at it with the fresh eyes we once had. Whatever it is, even if watching it all slowly fade away has been more than a little bittersweet, I'm still happy to have grown up with this game and this community and am grateful to have been able to have had so many memorable days playing and watching other play this game ❤
Survival Games are the main reason why I tried playing Minecraft servers in the first place. I remember watching hundred episodes of Bajan Canadian hunger games videos and he was the main reason why I tried to play servers and try PvP in the first place. LBSG is the most played server I ever played since Minecraft Pocket Edition is a thing and it was my go to Minecraft version to play hunger games.
It's quite the tragedy, I remember watching people like Bajan and Lachlan playing sg and it will always be one of the most nostolgic game modes that I enjoy going back to every now and then
I was a sg main(about 1 year)for most of my hive career. To be honest, it saw the death coming, ever since i quit a year ago and i cam e back recently i realized how much it had died, it had gon to barely hit 1k but now its just sad. I wish i could have my old survival games back but you know i guess that it is what it is, very sad death
As a Survival Games OG, starting in 2012 I miss playing so much. The peak for me was 2013-2015. I believe with the new movie coming out in November there is a chance to make a comeback but map building teams will need to appear out of the blue somewhere. There is also no incentive with rewards anymore and attention spans are at an all time low due to YT shorts and tiktok. I’m happy to just be apart of history others will only know about and never got to experience. Going on 26 now so I truly grew up with the gamemode. (Java edition player) - Churchay/TheChurchyHD
You didn't touch on the primary 2 factors that I think really caused the death of Survival Games. The first, was the fact that most servers shifted away from the core survival games experience that made the game fun. By adding all kinds of unique mechanics and items and things, they really just bogged it down and made it too flashy and complicated. Then you can add on to this the fact that most servers went pay to win, where people could buy kits and things to give themselves a gameplay advantage. The pay to win aspects, as well as unnecessary extra gameplay and overpowered loot tables, made the game feel like less of an even playing field, and less rewarding. The second thing is that hacking became the norm. Servers didn't really have the resources to properly fight against people using hacked clients, so it reached a point where it was virtually impossible to play a survival games match, on any server, without getting eliminated by a hacker. This made it basically impossible to actually play, and definitely destroyed the fun. There may have been survival games modes in some servers back in 2020, but I haven't been able to find a true, classic, enjoyable survival games experience since years before that. If I had to guess, I'd say that the experience that was possible at its peak was essentially obliterate within a span of a few years. I never stopped wanting to play it, it's just that it stopped existing the way it used to exist. And I'm sure that was a big contributor to why the popularity of it died, because people simply couldn't play it anymore.
I wholeheartedly agree with your first point. Way I see it, these unique mechanics and items are just weird gimmicks and I don't like them. I know other people do and that's why they continue to play it. But I always thought they were annoying and took away from the point of the game. And YES, I don't really like most kits. It is survival games, not kit pvp. Now I think it is alright if there are just a handful of basic kits that can be helpful at first, like maybe one with a stone sword or another with like an iron chestplate to start off with. But some of these kits are just ridiculous and overpowered. p2w is lame and servers that do this aren't good for new players.
I was hugely obsessed with SG growing up. On Lifeboat, Survival Games was my go-to gamemode. Whenever I wasn’t playing, I would watch Huahwi’s MCSG videos. I always wanted Lifeboat to add fishing rods and flint and steel because of Huahwi. I made some friends online thanks to Lifeboat. Their numbered server system made it really easy to play with a friend or host a big meetup (shoutout to sg13). If you entered a game early, you had to wait a while for it to fill up. It was funny whenever you saw players trash talk each other before the game began. With the influx of PC and console players, it became increasingly difficult to win a game as a mobile player. Lifeboat’s pay to win/play features didn’t sit well with the community either. Survival Games got boring, so I quit multiplayer Minecraft for a while. When I came back, the Bedrock server scene changed completely. Lifeboat fell off and the Hive became the biggest server. The first game I tried was SG, and while I enjoyed it, I couldn’t help but notice that something was missing from it. It was a sense of community. With a player count in the hundreds, I expected everyone to know each other, or at least the higher leveled players. In the games I played however, everything went by much quicker than I remember in Lifeboat. The queue, the fights, the time until deathmatch, requeueing, nearly every aspect of Hive SG was going by at a much faster pace that there wasn’t even any time to write a message in chat. I think because of this reason, as well as the points you mention in the video, contributed to SG’s decline. I doubt SG will ever make a comeback. It’s a gamemode as old as Minecraft itself, and if the big Minecraft tournaments couldn’t bring SG out of the dead, I’m afraid that nothing will.
I miss battle mode it was very good no op items you can turn on voice chat to see mad players they had so many maps but now legacy edition is gone some players try to recreate it but it's not the same
I remember spending hours, upon hours upon hours playing an old SG server called MCSG - thanks to Huahwi - he was the reason I was so involved in PvP. This video brought back almost tears. One can only dream that the days will be as simple as how they were a decade ago.
Bang on the point, SG has little hope and as it goes never say never but I do worry about the future of SG, and unless a sudden nostalgia wave hits and everyone returns then I doubt it will live on for 5 more years, but the only way to find out is to see how the future goes
That was a great video, however, I think you left out an important point with that being Survival games is called Survival games not craft royal. So any revamp of Survival games shouldn't get rid of it's Hunger Games origins. Apart from that I do agree with you on how it needs to be changed to make it more relevant again. However, I'd do it slightly differently to the way you suggested. With my changes making it more strategic and exciting at certain times. So my changes would be to allow the tributes to form alliances, this would be balanced as eventually the team would have to turn on each other as there can only be one winner. They could also add a quick chat feature to allow them to communicate more easily. To have there be less food in the arena, so the tributes have to gather food, instead of just being able to survive off food found in chests. This would also make alliances break apart quicker, as there likely wouldn't be enough food for all of them. To shorten the grace period to 10 seconds, in order to make the opening minute more of a blood bath. To make it so all the best loot spawns in the corner copier and that there's less chests just randomly around the map, as the alliance that takes the corner copier deserves the best loot, due to them having to share it. To add deadly parkour and puzzles that give really good loot, this would be a cool idea as it would make the game longer, while not making it drag as well as giving people who don't want to go into the corner copier a better chance to win. And my final suggestion is to replace the boring storm with natural disasters and unique hostile mobs that push tributes back into the Corner copier These changes would make the game more entertaining as it would force players to strategies more, while also giving the game much bigger highs, with the opening bloodbath and natural disasters/ mobs pushing them into the corner copier
I've been on Hive bedrock since 2018, I Remember when they first added SG, it was a huge deal, and I Played it constantly once the armor system was balanced out. But now seeing the SG npc being moved to the arcade, away from the main hub, was super sad to see, this game was pretty much the only pvp gamemode I played. and to see it crippling today is really upsetting. You put the game-modes history into words that I Couldn't find myself saying, great job on the video PotatoPie25. o7 to the once best PVP gamemode of Minecraft, Survival games.
Hey, so about your comment at the end of the video about SG not likely returning that is most likely false, since in late 2023 a new hunger games movie is supposed to come out. I think this has a lot of potential to bring back survival games.
PS3 and Xbox360 versions had an interesting take on survival games basically trowing you in a much smaller map than normal sg and having 16 players teaming allowed
1.19 content is immensely growing with more and more people making content out of it. A 1.19 SG would be great and it would actually bring it popularity.
Here's the reason: Sg has no easy way for unskilled players to win in sw/tw you can hit ppl into the void if you lack pvp skills, in sg theres no way to do this so mobile and controller players always get beaten by the one pc player in the lobby and have no way of actually winning.
Your attention span theory is interesting however I would point to how popular egg wars is on cubecraft and that game can take absolutely ages all tho I guess the difference is u can find people to fight easier in that
I miss BajanCandian and ASFJerome I miss the Nexus and the FridgeMC I got older and found MCCentral vanilla survival games with the OG maps but it got taken down. I wish I could play a couple more games when it was booming.
Great content thanks but Im suprised that you've skipped the part MCSG tried to come back 2-3 years ago and failed. Also In turkey we have got 2 big cracked pvp servers, named sonoyuncu and craftrise, there are still 100-200 current time players in day. but it used to be thousands a few years ago. sadly survival games is dead right now. But i liked the idea of battle royale, with little touches hypixel could bring the survival games and hype together. one day i hope...
New survival game maps suck on top of how servers choose to distribute loot and the gamemodes are also horrendous. Me personally the old maps are better and the old textures are still better. The only good survival games is blitz but people got tired of it and there’s no new updates.
im sad i just started getting into this game when my cousin showed me it on lifeboat and its not that popular like he said and its super fun but rlly challenging because almost every time i think im safe and organizing inv someone just hits me
Broo i remember playing on sg lbsg net 2015 and it peaks at 20,000. JFM and adventuregamingHQ are my go to eatch during those days in 2015 and 16. Miss the octopus lifeboat junglish lobby
My first multiplayer experience was survival games on a server called playmindcrack. Literally playing that over and over again was how I got better at PVP. I still very vividly remember my first ever win. I was hiding on the map and the other two remaining players killed each other.
SkyWars is still basically just sg but above the void. Survival Games aren’t dead, they’re just in the skywars era and skywars can be found practically everywhere, and MCC island has Sky Battle which is also practically the same thing.
Ngl, survival games was the first minigame i ever played on a minecraft server. Yea it was a lifeboat and being real i didn't like it at first but got used to having fun with it a lot back then. I remember camping out near the ships on that pirate map, as i was on pe and i sucked. I eventually started playing other Minigames and lost interest in SG. And now I'm here in 2023. Where i have absolutely no interest in minecraft minigames and I'm a Cod player now, guess that sg camping from 2018 is still alive here in rebirth island haha.
The way I think about it is that a lot of things go out of fashion such as the rubix cube for example but then will come back out of no where and become big again. So who knows? Maybe sg will make a return in a few years, or maybe it won't. We will just have to see.
As someone who didn’t really go on MC servers till like 2015, I never saw survival games as that interesting. I only ever really saw it as wandering around for 20 minutes and occasionally killing people. I always found bedwars more fun. Nowadays atleast on bedrock, I find that pretty much all the bedwars game modes are either unfun like lifeboats “new and improved” bedwars or is filled with sweaty kids who no life the game and rush everyone, making the experience also very unfun. Maybe I should give survival games another chance.
It will probably get a boost with the new Hunger Games movie later this year. If they decide to kill the game I will most probably stop playing Minecraft since whilst I do enjoy the other games SG is a game I come back to every time
hi, i'm from russia and i remember our community in 2015-17, it was the best time, but everyone has grown up and no one is filming, now everyone is watching skywars ((
I'm actually excited for Hytale. I'm sure they will bring survival games. I just hope they are working on making a really engaging multiplayer experience with classic and reworked minecraft gamemodes.
I think the main reason for the death of Survival Games is simply because of modes like Skywars and Eggwars. Having a way to kill people who have mich better gear (the void) adds a way to remove any RNG advantage, which makes the mode far more enjoyable.
i absolutely believe it will make a comeback, along with servers in general. prolly not right away but maybe in the next few years. possibly even longer. could be ten years down the road and make a huge comeback kinda like what happened with pokemon cards.
Lmao, this is probably your best video I've seen, I was scrolling through RUclips for inspiration to make my own video, and i ended up clicking on this one and got so entertained i forgot why I clicked on the video completely. Keep it up PatatoPie!!!
Never actually played survival games although I did play the battle mini game on lce which was based on survival games. It was so fun and I am so glad I found a recreation of it
2:I remember that treasure wars had lots of sweats and I mean lots of them like and entire lobby of hive plus members and now there is less and less every day

Hey, so about your comment at the end of the video about SG not likely returning that is most likely false, since in late 2023 a new hunger games movie is supposed to come out. I think this has a lot of potential to bring back survival games.
I used to play cubecraft sg alot back in the day. So kinda sad to see it die.
“nothing lasts forever” 😓
Since i join the Hive I've never see Survival Gamemode go up ,
kinda sad to see Survival game slowly dying and soon might be gone forever
PS3 and Xbox360 versions had an interesting take on survival games basically trowing you in a much smaller map than normal sg and having 16 players teaming allowed
All the old console versions have that mode. It’s just called “battle”. I still play it every now and then when I’m bored, it’s fun.
1.19 content is immensely growing with more and more people making content out of it. A 1.19 SG would be great and it would actually bring it popularity.
Server on 1.19 is just unplayable lagfest
Apologies for the necro but I have made an entire survival games server based on that
Here's the reason:
Sg has no easy way for unskilled players to win in sw/tw you can hit ppl into the void if you lack pvp skills, in sg theres no way to do this so mobile and controller players always get beaten by the one pc player in the lobby and have no way of actually winning.
It’s sad to see when Survival Games is dying, it used to be the first gamemode I play aswell and I’ve lost my motivation to play in there nowadays.
7:10
I could hear your phone buzzing there.
That intro and video was so emotional I want to cry
😭 me rn
Your attention span theory is interesting however I would point to how popular egg wars is on cubecraft and that game can take absolutely ages all tho I guess the difference is u can find people to fight easier in that
nah that's a fair point you make, i didn't really think TOO hard about the attention span thing, it just made sense in my brain
Rip SG, thank you for being the staple of Minecraft nostalgic classics
I miss BajanCandian and ASFJerome
I miss the Nexus and the FridgeMC
I got older and found MCCentral vanilla survival games with the OG maps but it got taken down.
I wish I could play a couple more games when it was booming.
I just wanna add that 6:14 i wanna add that mineman still has SG and is updating it and games still fill really quick
Just like survival games, treasure wars is next to die since I noticed that there used to be 1000+ players everyday and now it is around 700-970
Hive SG is one of my favorite gamemodes ever, and my favorite map is of course SG4
2015-2017 were the prime days of survival games you cant even lie
Nah 2012-2015
2013-2015 for me
New survival game maps suck on top of how servers choose to distribute loot and the gamemodes are also horrendous.
Me personally the old maps are better and the old textures are still better.
The only good survival games is blitz but people got tired of it and there’s no new updates.
im sad i just started getting into this game when my cousin showed me it on lifeboat and its not that popular like he said and its super fun but rlly challenging because almost every time i think im safe and organizing inv someone just hits me
I didn't know about this, I just continue playing sg on lifeboat without knowing this
Broo i remember playing on sg lbsg net 2015 and it peaks at 20,000. JFM and adventuregamingHQ are my go to eatch during those days in 2015 and 16. Miss the octopus lifeboat junglish lobby
I remember watching Jerome and bajin Canadian play and I loved it so much
R.I.P Survival Games :CC
SG is actually pretty popular here in Brazil, but it's more focused on soups and it isn't called Survival games instead it's called Hunger games
Congrats on 80 k one of the biggest hive yt.And u will definitely hit 100 k if u try
Try galaxite chronos, its a fresh take on sg
@@Azure9577 maybe I will. I’m just hoping rushers haven’t destroyed the meta there yet.
If anyone wants to play a fresh Hunger Games with their friends, look up Back to School Hunger Games on planet Minecraft!
I miss the days when everyone had to stop moving and start swinging. Now everyone is movi by all over the place
Nostalgia
This video brought back so much nostalgia!
The original Battle Royale
Let's be honest, the real downfall of Minecraft Survival games was when MCSG shutdown and many popular SG youtubers moved on to CS
agree
Yeah, but Spain and Badlion were still decent btw
Sg was always a classic. But they say, when one door closes, another one opens.
What a great video about one of the greatest gamemodes of all time. FeelsStrongMan Clap
It will probably get a boost with the new Hunger Games movie later this year. If they decide to kill the game I will most probably stop playing Minecraft since whilst I do enjoy the other games SG is a game I come back to every time
hi, i'm from russia and i remember our community in 2015-17, it was the best time, but everyone has grown up and no one is filming, now everyone is watching skywars ((
i really wish hive added interactions with games like maybe a interactable switch that opens a hatch or smth
When the hive moved the survival games npc into the arcade, the death felt final...
Pretty sad how it down falled so fast. I still enjoy it but it can get boring when you can find a player
MCSG was my childhood bro I miss it :(
I also think a lot of it is that Huahwi didn't just quit... he switched to Badlion UHC. So everyone started playing UHC instead.
Survival Games is now on their own gamemode
I'm currently working on a survival games video, it takes a different perspective, and expands on the idea that it is borring
Lmao, this is probably your best video I've seen, I was scrolling through RUclips for inspiration to make my own video, and i ended up clicking on this one and got so entertained i forgot why I clicked on the video completely. Keep it up PatatoPie!!!
Remember old days
Aaah no no iam crying
I remember the early days when Im always playing on the lifeboat server just to play survival games
Rip survival games
Never actually played survival games although I did play the battle mini game on lce which was based on survival games. It was so fun and I am so glad I found a recreation of it
2:I remember that treasure wars had lots of sweats and I mean lots of them like and entire lobby of hive plus members and now there is less and less every day
I used to play lifeboat sg in 2015, I was so bad but so was everyone else, that was so much fun
HiveSg was killed by the influx of hackers, every even premium game was just unplayable
YOU ARE BACK WITH FAITHFUL LESS GOOO
i saw your YT channel in some comments about a meme calling you Lego hair and they said you still had the Lego hair so I came to check
Hey potato, random question but what ray tracing pack do you use?
Once 1.9 came out and they changed the combat system that was the death of minecraft
did you know technoblae started his channel playing blitz survival games on hypixel? kinda crazy
8:55 i love the shirt bro
Survival games on cubecraft are my fave ☺️
Is it active?
My friend is lev 18 I wanted to play with them survival mode but they said they quit rest in peace survival mode
Good vid! Maybe put the music a little less loud tho.
I think part of it ending too is because of too many mods and users hacking
shame JeromeASF fakes videos nowadays. this was an interesting video you got my sub :)
I’m going to miss survival games
Surprised to not hear mcgamer not get a mention in all this
