Thank you, Frederique, for the wonderful tips and inspiration! I used to spend so much money on all the things you mentioned and I’m trying to be smarter now that I’m retired. I also want to thank you for your tips about finding our own personal style. Just today, while standing in line for sliced meats at the grocery in Houston, Tx. , a nice lady turned to me and told me how nice I looked. I was wearing a simple summer dress with a Fedora hat, my hair in a ponytail and the paper clip earrings from your Amazon suggestions. It turns out that Morissette, the nice lady, is originally from Normandy, France but moved here after getting married and where she has lived ever since. (She’s now a chic 91 and in the fullness of time has lost all her friends, including her husband). I told her all about you, and how much you have inspired me to always give it that little extra effort that can bring such joy to everyday life. Morissette says she’s going to watch you too because she needs that encouragement. And we’re going to meet for lunch and compare notes.
And on our lucky days, possibly while wearing paperclip earrings, may we all meet a wonderful new friend like Morissette! Merci beaucoup!

So I spent thousands of Euros to fix it. I opted for the "invisible" braces and I am loving the results. A beautiful healthy smile is more important to me than no wrinkles.

I have too many money saving tips to mention! I do spend money though on the things that really matter to me and which I enjoy.
Just some tips...I never pay full price on cosmetics, haircare and skincare brands that regularly go on sale. Go online and see who has it hopefully at 50% or even 30% off then buy and keep aside.
I don't dryclean jackets/coats. I just spot clean the outside and turn them inside-out and wipe the underarm lining esp. with baby wipes and hang outside in the sunshine to dry and disinfect the lining.
No eye serums (damaging to eye health, see Dr Dray's RUclips videos). I just "tightline" my upper eyelashes and use a couple of layers of Essence Lash Princess false lash effect mascara (black & green packaging). I have just seen that RUclips's Smitha Deepak uses it too.
I don't wear false eyelashes or have nail or lash extensions. I may put on some subtle individual eyelashes for special occassions. I paint my nails at home. I use Essence brand drops (about $4) to dry my nails. I use Essence nail polish too, very budget friendly. Olive oil drops or spray can be used to dry nails too.
My latest experiment is making a hair setting spray from linseeds (aka flax seeds), $4 a bag. The sieved liquid from boiling up and simmering the seeds is combed through washed and dried hair. I use fabric covered sponge rollers which are comfortable to sleep in (or the spacebun and scrunchie technique). My hair is smooth, soft, wavy and bouncy in the morning and importanntly holds the curl all day plus.
I buy Olaplex no. 1 on eBay to put into my at home hair colour rather than go to the salon.
    I trim my own hair
I dont do IPL to fade pigmentation I use the John Plunkett's Superfade Hydroquinone cream (OTC in Australia). For face, hands, neck chest etc.
I also love my Illumiaskin flexible silicone LED face mask. Different light colour setting modes for anti-aging, acne and many more. It seems just as good as the very expensive ones. I purchased it online from Aldi Australia. Cheaper than LED treatments at salons. Not always in-stock online.
I use Treninoin/retinol and sunscreen as a preventitives (and beauty investment) for the future too.
    👱‍♀️❤

Thank you for this video. I was a victim of fast fashion for years; always buying new clothing, but never seemed to have anything to wear. Now as a mature woman, I want to present myself as chic and sophisticated, but not overdone. To start, I threw out cheap cardigans and replaced them with good quality blazers, one black and one cream-colored, and had them tailored to look impeccable. I can see getting a lot of wear out of these with jeans, dresses, skirts and dress pants. I definitely feel more put together.

Have found that proper/consistent Facial EXERCISE, combined with Facial MASSAGE (both DIY) will ELIMINATE the need for botox and fillers. Facial Muscles respond to exercise in EXACTLY the same manner as every other muscle group of the body....and anyone who says differently are not the experts they claim to be, or they're trying to sell you something. Just turned 62, and am frequently 'mistaken' for one in her early 40's. Facial exercises are NOT a 'quick fix'....like all other fitness regimes, they require consistency and patience....but they pay off in SPADES. And TOTALLY agree with you, Frederique, about investing in the BEST (for you) skin care line. The combination of good skin care, facial exercise/massage, and an overall fitness lifestyle renders a glow and firmness to our faces which cannot be replicated by ANY needles, peels, nips, lifts, tucks, etc. And with all the money you've saved, you can snag that Chanel Quilted Envelope bag! LOL

No hair colour. I spend whatever is needed on a good quality shampoo and rinse plus a conditioner for the ends. Even though I have an oily scalp, which means washing my hair every second day, I don’t spend much on these premium products because I buy a large size that lasts almost a year. My hair is a medium length bob, long enough to get off my face by tying back with a hair clip but not so long that I can’t maintain it with just a wash and blow dry. It’s a simple cut so I trim own hair and only visit the hairdresser when it needs shaping, once or twice a year at most. I get a manicure and pedicure twice a year because it makes it easier to maintain my nails between visits.
I stick to simple makeup (lip gloss, blush, eyeshadow, eyebrow pencil, mascara at max) that’s replaced only when I run out, except mascara of course. It’s a mixture of drug store and premium brands that work for me. Skin care is problematic because I have very oily skin and cystic acne. Almost all skin products cause breakouts. I wash three times a day with a tea tree oil cleanser and put Differin on at night. The only sunscreen that doesn’t cause breakouts is zinc. I’ve found a couple of hand and foot lotion products that are on the expensive side (would cost me $40/month to use regularly) that I’ve started using because they work so well.
A lot of my clothing consists of thrifted classics which I update with new clothes from Uniqlo, Levis and Gap. I used to shop at Banana Republic and still go there, as well as L.L. Bean, Athleta and Lululemon, when I can’t find what I want secondhand.
I probably spend less than $150 on skin, hair care, makeup salon visits. My weakness is fashion. Even shopping secondhand I spend too much on clothes. I’m thinking of selling some of the better items that no longer work for me on Poshmark.

Skin care is vitally important but luck plays a part. I've inherited ny grandmother's good skin but I don't take it for granted and am fanatical about nurturing it. I've never been tempted to use Botox etc. but if getting help in that area boosts your confidence and works for you - go ahead! I do spend money on a monthly mani/pedi and eyelash tint. A couple of hours in luxe surroundings with a glass of wine is wonderfully relaxing. I've never gone in for fast fashion: simple, quality, classic, long-lasting clothes enlivened with a stand out accessory works for me.
The value of this video is that it makes you think: some of us will now see that we might economise in an area where others will spend, and vice versa. We're all different! You will have helped people to reassess their priorities - most helpful, Frederique!

I also do Non Invasive Procedures because it makes me feel good and youthful, and I make no apology for it also ... I am 61 and looking younger actually makes me feel younger, and I behave younger .... I believe they are all linked ... 🤗🤗🤗

Great video! Thank you, Frederique! ❤️ I find that skincare is so important, but except for vitamin C, which is the only ingrediant that is difficult to find in effective products that are not expensive, I find that most skincare can be drugstore and still do the job perfectly. I use prescription Tretinoin, acid exfoliators, vitamin C, niacinamide, squaline oil, peptides, hydrating serumes, moisturizers with ceramides and glycerin, and I double cleanse. The ONLY thing that is rather expensive is my vitamin C serum. The rest are very budgetfriendly, but just as effective as the high end products I used to buy. Lots of money can be saved by switching to drugstore products when it comes to skincare.

I used to go to manicure/pedicure, beautician etc regularly in my home country Latvia. Great quality and affordable. Since I moved to Australia, in the beginning I tried to do the same. Impossible if you aren't crazy rich. Nowadays I do everything myself at home. Even hair colour. Except haircut 😄. I have great Italian hairdresser and he always praises my mastery of hair colouring.
Yes I do miss very much hands of my beautician but well - I do masking 😅 very often and trendy Gua Sha self facial and neck massage.
And quality over quantity and sale and discounts when it comes to clothes and shoes.

Love this!!! I’m just getting into the laser/Botox game. I’ve had my first laser this week to deal with rosacea. A couple of weeks I’ll have my first Botox. I do get my nails and hair done. I would love to stop the nails but they’re so thin after having them done all the time. My hair is highlighted because of all the grey. But again super damaged. I’m 41. Love your video. I literally watch everything you put out.

I've always had thin delicate nails, & taking calcium tablets improved them a lot (taken for bone density). Any nail polish product at all seems to damage my nails, so I simply file and gently buff them & keep them clean. Considering I'm in my early 60s, I'm quite pleased with how my hands look. I also put sunscreen on them.

I stopped colouring my hair as I suddenly felt it was all too toxic. Luckily it's a silvery colour so with a decent cut, looks pretty. I think the secret to grey hair is an excellent cut & a style that suits our face, body and hair, and good condition.
I haven't needed to even use conditioner on my hair since I stopped colouring.

I have been doing an at-home gel manicure for a few months. I'm surprised how much better I am at putting on gel nail polish on my non-dominat hand than with regular nail polish. Meaning, my gel manicure looks great!
I use the Orly brand with their mini lamp. For what I would pay for, maybe, 2 gel manis at the salon, I can get the kit.
Unless, I want to pamper myself to a pedicure, I am not stepping back into a nail salon again.
This is my biggest tip for 2022 so far!

Frederique, a very inspiring video, and Iʻm going to challenge you even further. I work in a community college where my job is to connect students to the resources they need, whether on campus or in the community. Many, MANY of the students here are food insecure (i.e., hungry), housing insecure (i.e., way too many are homeless or couch-surfing), and are really stressed to survive while studying to succeed in college. Yet these students, male AND female, want to look good, especially now that weʻre just this term getting back to campus. Weʻve been online for two years and itʻs taking a minute to adjust to walking around campus WITH other people!
What kinds of tips and tricks do you have for people for whom spending $7,000 a year -- that means tuition. That means food. That means rent. (Rent here for a one-room apartment is, can you believe it, $1600 a month!!!) It does not mean, really, honestly, any of the things you talked about.
How can a gal spend $20 a month "on beauty" and look amazing? How can a guy spend $20 a month "on good looks" in a way that will make him feel fantastic?
Thatʻs real life in southern Oregon today.
Students...AND those of us who are inspired to help them. All of us. We donʻt have buckets of money to spend on ourselves.

Retinol/retinoid + sunscreen are the biggest bang for your buck in terms of skincare. The Ordinary has high quality active ingredients at affordable price points - their Granactive Retinoid is great. Drugstore moisturizer such as Cerave (can use on face and body) is recd by many dermatologists. When you take care of your skin you don’t need much makeup.

Thanks for the info! I think it's important to learn how to shop properly so you make the most of your money (body shape, skin tone, height, etc.) while also keeping things such as quality, animal cruelty, plastic, pollution and climate in mind. For instance, it's very difficult to find flattering and neutral pieces in fast fashion, but some do exist for cheaper than higher-end garments, and if I take care of them by washing cold and hang drying, they should last a long time. I won't buy silk or cashmere because of the animal cruelty involved. Silk worms are boiled alive and a thousand are needed to make a single garment. It is terrible for the environment. Cashmere is also oftentimes cruel to the Kashmir goats - please do your research on that entire industry before making a purchase. While polyester and other synthetic fabrics are plastics and can contain chemicals, I would much rather invest in some quality pieces composed of that material (of course I prefer organic cotton and linen as much as possible) since they will last a long time without deteriorating. That's why it's terrible when they end up in landfills, so please be careful with what you purchase!

I always do my own nails, too, and only use clear polish. I tried eyelash extensions and they were incredibly irritating. I seemed to rub my eyes when asleep, because many had fallen out overnight. I wear mascara when I want to show my skimpy lashes more.

I see a lot of people going overboard with extensions that look so false. Many, many years ago I tried the old style false eyelashes and everyone thought they were real. This has me wondering if it’s the extensions or the way they’re applied.

When my full lips seemed smaller, I realised it was because I was pinching in the muscles around my mouth - I now do a few exercises & thst fixed it. Same for frown lines - concentrated on using the muscles to eliminate & kept smooth into my early 60s.
I just use lip liner & foundation to minimise fine lines around the lips.
I think Botox interferes with using face muscles & as we age, we need to exercise our muscles more, not immobilise them.
I think fillers causes loose skin. So many women in my area have strange, indistinct lips - I am assuming because they used fillers a lot & gave them up at 55 plus.
I have rapidly aged in my early 60s. Am not too bothered, I mean in 6 years I'll be 70, it's a lost cause. I am focussing on hobbies, minding my money, enjoying life & having goals.
I still like to look pleasant for others to look at though, so I do make some effort. I am enjoying homing in on the personal style I like, but being petite & pale, it's hard to find clothing that's right for me in Australia.
I may look at some skin treatments in the next few years, for the pigmentation etc.
I take excellent care of my nails & hair myself with simple inexpensive ways that are less damaging than commerical treatments. I get my teeth cleaned and checked annually. I minimise sun exposure. I need to do strength building exercise more.
Thanks for your insights and advice and sharing.

Make up - have my basic supermarket stuff and a Chanel eyecrayon and their light foundation for special occasions.Short, clean unpolished nails. Sport - walking and running. Bonjour Frederique! I think my biggest expense is skin care which is about $200 but it lasts me all year. Mascara I replace regularly. Hair color I do myself. I haven't had a haircut in years. I just let my hair grow. I do my own manicures and pedicures. I don't have designer bags. Most of my clothes are decades old but stylish. I guess I'm just frugal, because I watch what I spend. Keep on making videos. You're so beautiful and fun! 🥰 XOXO

I am just 47! I've never used make up I mean tinted things for Face e.g. foundation, shadows etc. I only wear Eyeliners and Lip balm. I get confused if I should start thinking about preventing botox on my forehead! I've asked A therapist, I go to her for a weekly LED light therapy.
I've never done any other facial or face treatments. I use Hyaluronic serum, Vic Serum and Sunscreen if I go out in daylight. Eyelash serum sounds great!! As we age they may fall out 😑 if I don't look after now!
Great idea to start on a smaller budget!!! I wish I would bump onto You in Sydney one day 😍😍😍

Such a wonderful video. So true. You are an inspiration. Luv that you are you and make no excuses. I think we should do what makes us feel great. If you want fillers, botox, etc., then so be it. Don't know what the fuss is about, except perhaps those that are dishonest about using them. 🤔Such a shame that some people purchase lux items to prove something to others. If you want lux, buy lux (just don't go into debt for it), if you want drugstore, buy drugstore. I do what works for me. If others don't like it, that is their issue. We have nothing to prove to anyone. Be yourself. Thank you for sharing Frédérique. 🌺

A kind and informative video. Only one difference of opinion. Aging is inevitable, and rather than look as if I am not aging, I would rather spend more money on skincare and make up which is formulated for older skins (loss of pigmentation, fine lines and drier skin) than use make up which is formulated for younger skins and use botox to give the illusion my skin is not aging. Every day I put on serum then day cream, every evening I use eye cream and night cream, during the week I exfoliate my face once, and use a hydrating mask once, dialy hydrating hand cream - every thing I use is formulated for older skin.

Goodness! I've found it impossible to do personal manicure/pedicures without injuries and a mess all over the place. It's my one essential bit of salon maintenance other than biannual haircuts. These days I also pass on getting a massage in favor of chiropractor adjustments which are less costly and more beneficial in the long run. I've never skimped on skin care but thanks to RUclips's Angie at Hot & Flashy I have an outstanding collection of reasonably-priced products that do a great job for me and are refillable for around $300/year with the occasional makeup splurge here and there. I do understand the urge for chemical fillers, Botox, etc. and had it done in my forties and early 50's but the difference didn't justify the little bit of improvement that I could see (no one else ever did) so here I am in my 60's and it's off the the nail salon for me 😉. I also took the opportunity to go silver in 2021 - I like it and the cost savings is astounding! Thanks for your openness in sharing your journey as well, Frederique.

Here's a tip for you Frederique... I used a eyelash serum to make my eyelashes grow longer. It worked well but it changed the colour of my skin right above my eyelashes so I stopped using it and eventually my eyelashes were sparse again. So I started using a small drop of castor oil on my brows and lashes every night and that works great. Nice full lashes and brows again. For PENNIES!

I purged what I didnt use and its more manageable. I wash silks by hand. I dont do dry cleaning, I don't like what the fibres feel like or smell like when its done. I do not do Botox or Fillers. Not for me. Its an excellent idea to look at your budget and understand what and where you are spending.
