Personally I think Messi is the better footballer then Ronaldo, and the best of all time. Ronaldo is the better athlete, and he’s possibly the greatest athlete in the history of football. But you know what, it’s amazing that we are able to live in a time when we can watch both of them at the peak of his powers. It’s been an absolute amazing 15 years for football. And we’re gonna miss them when they’re gone.

I think Ronaldo deserves to be top 3 purely for his winning mentality and ability to just impact games. He is one of maybe 3 guys in history that could go into a game being down 0-2 on aggregate and you'd expect him to score a hat trick to push his team to the next round. He doesn't score the best goals or make the best moves, he just wins

Ronaldo, pele and R9 are rare players as they are the only players who have dribbled opponents using both their technical ability and pace. That combination makes them amongst the best dribblers in history.

For the majority of his career he's been more of a central striker who gets you the goals and wins, which is not less impressive and is more important to team success

R9 was a brilliant dribbler only till 1999. That's only 3 -4 years at his peak. Still people consider him one of the best dribblers. Ronaldo was one of the best dribblers from 2002-2014. That's 12 years.
Messi has been a brilliant dribbler for 15 years. So I understand if you put messi above Ronaldo. But other than Messi and Maradona there are not many other names in terms of talent and quality

Those free kicks, those set pieces, the last minute clutch goals, all the times he carried his team on his back to the UCL finals, him putting Portugal on his back to win the Euros. Think about it like this, ronaldo might not play the prettiest football, but who do you want taking that 90'th minute freekick for the competition final when you're 1-1. The problem is that messi has always played on teams that play just as beautifully as him, with xavi and iniesta, etc. But now that he doesn't have those things, he doesn't really know what to do at psg.

@Tod Dot First of all you forget that he didn't play striker for a big part of his career, and when he was at his prime in Madrid and still didn't play the central striker role for a good part of it, he still averaged more than a goal per game. He is without a doubt one of the 5 greatest. Not to mention, besides Messi and Pele, who has his quality and scored a total tally even close to his?
But I wouldn't put him as one of the top just because of that, he is one of the greatest winners in sports and his mentality is elite that can inspire the whole team to achieve the impossible and him being able to just turn the tide in a game with ease.
Not to mention consistency is also a big factor, I believe the R9 had he not gotten injured could've been the greatest, he is still one of the best, but unfortunately he lost a big chunk of his career and potential to injuries. Ronaldo has been at the top level for 15 years, and that had to stand for something.
