Up to this point, I never thought of modifying the main highway. This really opens up some neat layouts that I was pondering for some time. I also need to start exercising the demolition tool, because I was always afraid of taking existing blocks apart to improve them.
It's a little misleading in letting people think you have a self-sufficient city only because other cities are providing the services that let this city run so well. Perhaps do a tutorial on making the cities that allow for this current one, perhaps?
I know I'm super late to the party but it's *extremely* misleading because he states at the start of the video that this is geared towards beginners/first time builders. And if those beginners were to follow this guide step-by-step (which is likely for beginners), then they will be quite upset when their city is falling apart and they will have to start going against this guide.
This sums up every experience I have had while playing Sim City: "Man, I really feel like playing Sim City! " Then I open the game and realize that my dreams are bigger than the maps and so I give up and exit the game. Piece of shit maps.
Please don't take this as any sort of criticism, it's just suggestion what I feel may still have a room for working better. One is that space between buildings is sometimes too small (one should have enough space to accommodate for medium/dense buildings on both sides, otherwise it's wasted road and precious space on very limited map). Some traffic and commuting seems overly complicated (crossroads do work fine if not stacked one on another, there is no need for making underpasses, which then cause only longer commute times) and R/C zones should be mixed together with eye kept on overall availability of the jobs (Rich and medium are rarely great issue, but poor are always troublesome, since if the don't have job, they become homeless, in other case (too many free jobs) they can become angry from being overworked and leave/become homeless(bug?) (is usually amplified in towers, though there is no message which would show this problem as a main factor anywhere. Reference to this mechanic can be found in game manual, but that's it.). At last education is most important thing and should be first to be established right after essential services (power, water, sewage, garbage, fire dept - imho in this order) are set up, since it slightly reduces overall consuption of power, water, sims then also produce less sewage and significantly less garbage should you happen to setup recycling center in the city. Health is NOT an issue if you have smart citizens and with at least 4 marks in education status, one clinic with extra ambulance and patient room is more than enough (roughly 1400 simbucks in maintenance). Note, junction interruption from the Highway is kinda ingenious solution. I personally use something similar to dump excessive traffic from the city (not sure why so many cars which are just passing through have to ride in and out of town instead of driving straight forward, perhaps it's yet another game bug)
@FreeMind For some reason, I can't reply to your post directly, but for education, make sure that everyone is going to school. Highschools are a great choice because they have high capacities and use school buses. If community colleges is the choice of education, then make sure to plop multiple of them throughout the city so that everyone has access to a college. Hope that fixes your problem!
no need to plop more than 1 or 2 per city (depending on layout), just make sure u have a good mass-transit system that covers your entire low and med wealth residential areas. after that just plop a busstop (or 2 at every corner) at the side of the street the college is on and you're all set. streetcars also work great, but i find it's better to start off with busses since you will be needing them anyway :)
I had a great city built, until my city educations lvl was still low and i built a nuclear power plant, never guess what happened, yep....BOOM!!!! Had to start from scratch,,,guess that's the fun if simcity, unpredictability.
I am so glad i found this video for building my own city on SimCity, i was having problems of my own i usually focused my own city issues such as Power, water, and Electric along with sewage. And Basically it was becoming a problem everytime i built them first, but if you built it along the way then you have money. So thanks for the info dude really saved me the trouble.>>
Thanx! I can't probably understand what you're saying because i was focusing on the video, not on your voice. But, you helped on how to build a city! Thank you!
Thanks for the video is so helpful. Now I have a huge problem from my very fist city it's full of crimes and I'm trying my best to fight it with police and education which cost me so much that I decided to leave the city and start new other cities, now the problem is many criminal come from my very first city and the new cities people are leaving it cause of crime, not sure how can I solve this problem, please need help.
Steps to having fun playing Simcity 1. Buy Simcity 2. Download the game 3. Burn your computer, making sure nothing is left that can work 4. Bury your burned, broken computer in a grave marked "The Simcity Series" Tada! You have had the most fun possible with Simcity 2013!
yes the mega tower have some problem but without the mega tower its really hard to make a million population city tho. what i do is after i got to 400,000~600,000 population city (P.S depends on if u got a flat land of city or not) and then u start saving moneys. u will need to save up to 2 million moneys and then u build all 8 mega tower at once and make all levels up to 8 as all low wealth apartment at then wait for them to all move in to the mega tower and then keep waiting until u got to the maximum population the city can get to and then leave the city right the way to make the city save the population number becoz the mega people will starting to talk sht about ohhhh cant find work and no matter how many works u give them it will never be enough so just leave before they starting to complain and leaving the city. doing this way u will have ur city's population go up around 800,000~ 1,200,000. if u dont believe it u can add me on origin my ID is DeathRecall with a paul walker picture.
For anyone starting a city in SimCity on pc or laptop this is a must to watch Great video And this SimCity build it or what SimCity version? And is this done pc or laptop or does it not matter if it is the same?
when you cover the commerical property square in buildings as you did it kind of makes it a joke to actually watch what your sims do up close bc there are like 20 of one store on each block
This actually helps me a lot, as an intermediate player; somthing I've always struggled with is getting shoppers, buildings are constantly abandoned in my city because of no shoppers, when I have a signifcantly greater amount of residential zones than commercial and industrial combined . . . I'm stumped, anyone who still plays the game, can you help me?
killosiphy_guy00 Do you mean the road that he places the garbage tip at 3:02? If so, it is a plot of land in the region called Viridian Woods. The plot of land is called Gaugin Valley. Hope this helped
Thanks for the tips, I have to use this game in commerce class so I got the game for my pc and every city of mine is always thousands of dollars under so...
which software you used for crate this design......... ???? i am interested to do like this................ and want to build some project.............
If you have a lot of high/medium wealth buildings, the population will be much lower than if you have a lot of low wealth buildings. In fact a low wealth residential building gives two times the population a medium wealth building would give, and SIX times the population a high wealth one would give. So probably it's for this reason I guess... Ps. Sorry if I've made some English mistake... Italian dude. xD

question should i build casinos and churches ect or just live it simple and how do you get so much income is it because you dont upgrade people building and when on my map if i dont have coal ores ect can i get good income ?
Most of the income seen in this video comes from taxes from the residential. Set low wealth taxes at 12%, medium wealth at 11%, and high wealth at 10%.
AsilksWorld hmm that's really strange why not the opposite low wealth taxes at 10%, medium wealth at 11%, and high wealth at 12% I guess wealthy people should pay more and poor people should pay less :\

I learned something from this video....CHANGE THE DAMN STREETS WITH ALLEYS!

Play Simcity 4 deluxe . It's region maps are waaaaaaaaay bigger ! True classic :D
Think a bit smaller, i dont have any problems with the maps
The Master city maps are too small.

Did he seriously just put industrial zones next to a residential zone...
It reduces traffic because the workers can walk to work.
Thomas Urbanski Jr. look at wind direction
Thnks. good advice with the roads. I erased two games already bra ause I have no idea what I am doing. Constantly getting broke

You have to mind the wind direction, sir. People don't generally like to inhale factory smoke.

I find this really funny, but this is true. We reallt have to strategically place everything.
thanks, years later im playing and i didnt even think of demolishing my existing roads to solve traffic.
How I can download this game?
I thought it was cool what you did with showing what you did with the layouts and giving a general discussion about the pros/cons etc.
Steps to having fun playing Simcity
1. Buy Simcity

4. Bury your burned, broken computer in a grave marked "The Simcity Series"

Hi! how did you do an underpass in simcity?
Do you still recommend those taxes? Right now I have about 150,000+ and I'm taxing everyone at 10% lol
You don't want to exceed 11% for medium and low; high wealth will start to complain so keep them at 10%. A department of finance would help a lot.
Yes, these taxes works for any population level
Please can you tell me how to do the bridges? That is so cool.
Press N too lower and M too higher
Thank you! :)
Hello, can I have a question? I can't somehow build bridges, and tunnels, when I click Page UP or Page Down it moves my camera
click 'M' for up and 'N' for down
I don't really need the tips cuase you know i'm a pro but seriously I love watching your videos.

You are so good at making a road way
How are you doing that way? I mean like the Highway doesn’t look like that and then the roads are curved
