I personally thought Joshua Vs Klitchko was right up there too for atmosphere and importance.

One thing you got to love about fighters, particularly once they get "older" especially,...they are the most straightforward, real type of guys there are. Very noticeable.

Nigel Benn seems to have mellowed over the years and even become likeable, whereas for years he came over, to me, as a sneering bully. I always liked Eubank because, though he often came over as a nut-job, he was always a character who sent HIMSELF up most of the time. He was also a very brave and skilful fighter.

It is so sad what happened to Gerald McClennan, but the amount of tenacious courage Nigel Benn displayed in that fight was astounding. It was, unfortunately, his best performance.

It’s amazing how many boxers talk about how important to them their wife is. Many boxers come from broken homes and finding someone who loves them, truly loves them seems to be the most amazing thing, almost what they were searching for and why they were fighting.

I used to do security with a company called Top guard and I was with Nigel for a while, what a lovely person, I met him some years later at Epping Forest country club & he came and started talking to me like an old friend.

Yes he was a more technically skilled fighter but Benn was at his very best when things weren't going right for him and would just keep coming forward. And if you been in the square circle and your opposition has taken every best shot from you but keeps coming forward it plays on your mind. Look at the micky ward and gatti fights, gatti was p4p the best and is a legend but look at what happened. You have to have heart and mental strength,and Benn had it in abundance.

Proper warriors, I was at the old Trafford fight, no mobile phones, I was ringing round every place from Yellow Pages and just managed to get a small room for me and a mate (rip Gary). Great times
Best comeback fight I ever watched was Benn V mcclellen. Mcclellen was number 2 in ring magazine fighter of the year at the time behind only the great Roy Jones. Its reported even Jones avoided mcclellen who was an absolutely devastating puncher and good boxer with it which is rare with big punchers. How Benn managed to carry on when mcclellen knocked him through the ropes was beyond me, mcclellens punches were sickeningly hard. It was the best display of sheer will and determination I have ever seen in a boxing ring. The fight was so brutal neither man would be the same again. A genuine true great our nige
Legend. At a boxing evening with Nigel Benn, this amazing guy sits down after his talk and chats with us for a couple of hours over a few 😉 beers. An absolute gentleman and for me nobody comes close.
My band was on the same bill as Nigel for a fundraiser at Repton school a couple of years ago. When he arrived we couldn't resist playing his 1990 hit song "Stand and fight" over our PA. He loved it and spoke to us briefly - both then and during his one man show in which he recounted his highs and lows he came across as a lovely person but still with a lot of edge. A class act.
This man is a national treasure. His honesty is so refreshing in a day of spin and lies.

A neighbour of mine growing up once told me Nigel Ben saved his life. But he said Ben was a soldier at the time.
Can still remember the atmosphere coming through the tv in the McClellan fight.Spine tingling.
Remember watching it as a kid jumping up and down roaring in front of the tv! Was like a Rocky film.

It is so sad what happened to Gerald McClennan, but the amount of tenacious courage Nigel Benn displayed in that fight was astounding. It was, unfortunately, his best performance.

Brilliant boxer.... Absolutely loved this era of British boxing.... Benn fought with courage, power, skill and heart. Will we see an era like that again???? Sadly not....

and if gerald had walked away from that fight it would have been the best british fight ever and no he was never the same, its sub conscous when youre a good person and you hurt another human you can never recover. same for eubank with watson
I think the damage was already done before that fight, when Gerald fought Julian Jackson he took some hard shots.
Same with Eubank Watson 2 it was a classic . Watson work rate was unbelievable he was classic fighter like graham but not as technically gifted

Him and Michael Watson had everyone hooked on boxing. He was huge when I was in my teens. Huge respect for both men.
It’s amazing how many boxers talk about how important to them their wife is.
Many boxers come from broken homes and finding someone who loves them, truly loves them seems to be the most amazing thing, almost what they were searching for and why they were fighting.
Yet they’re all smashing other girls 😂😂😂😂

I used to do security with a company called Top guard and I was with Nigel for a while, what a lovely person, I met him some years later at Epping Forest country club & he came and started talking to me like an old friend.
simply my favorite fighter of all time ,when he beat Mclelland i cried ,when he speaks i listen.
If McLellan did not suffer braintrauma midway in the fight he would have lost.

@@1978utreg I was there, it was the first fight I ever went to. Yes he was a more technically skilled fighter but Benn was at his very best when things weren't going right for him and would just keep coming forward. And if you been in the square circle and your opposition has taken every best shot from you but keeps coming forward it plays on your mind. Look at the micky ward and gatti fights, gatti was p4p the best and is a legend but look at what happened. You have to have heart and mental strength,and Benn had it in abundance.

Best comeback fight I ever watched was Benn V mcclellen. Mcclellen was number 2 in ring magazine fighter of the year at the time behind only the great Roy Jones. Its reported even Jones avoided mcclellen who was an absolutely devastating puncher and good boxer with it which is rare with big punchers. How Benn managed to carry on when mcclellen knocked him through the ropes was beyond me, mcclellens punches were sickeningly hard. It was the best display of sheer will and determination I have ever seen in a boxing ring. The fight was so brutal neither man would be the same again. A genuine true great our nige

The ref wasn’t bent but he couldn’t speak English and it was only his 2nd world title fight. They should have chosen a much more experienced referee.

Legend. At a boxing evening with Nigel Benn, this amazing guy sits down after his talk and chats with us for a couple of hours over a few 😉 beers. An absolute gentleman and for me nobody comes close.
If I could sum up watching Nigel in a ring in one sentence it would be :
A proper tear up.
My band was on the same bill as Nigel for a fundraiser at Repton school a couple of years ago. When he arrived we couldn't resist playing his 1990 hit song "Stand and fight" over our PA. He loved it and spoke to us briefly - both then and during his one man show in which he recounted his highs and lows he came across as a lovely person but still with a lot of edge. A class act.
I remember watching the 1st eubank fight with my dad I was about 9 and was absolutely gutted when benn lost
