Spent some time in my home town of crayford too when he returned i think. Stories of frank maloney as he was then owing a pub and lewis old mum living down iron mill lane for a bit. Early lewis fight or maybe a couple of them on here even says boxing out of crayford so its no lie.
That Lewis Bruno fight shows that you can't hook with a hooker, but you can jab with a jabber. Bruno wasn't as talented as Lewis, but he was faster and had his own jab, so he caused Lewis many problems. Lewis is definitely in the top 5 heavyweights of all time!

Easily the classiest heavyweight boxing champion in history and also the hardest, most accurate puncher. He plays chess as well which comes as no surprise...he was an amazing boxing tactician. He was the greatest heavyweight boxing champion I've ever seen. Anthony Joshua reminds me of Lennox. I remember when he left Canada...I'm Canadian but I think it was a very smart business move to relocate to the UK...smart to be his own boss as well...too many boxers wind up poor later in life.
The first heavyweight in the 6'6" range to be able to move and box instead of just using the height and weight as an advantage, 2 losses by lucky punches and an absolutely banging record with a list of who's who on his resume. Top 10 for sure!!
Top 5, at the very least. Other than that, I agree with everything :) Lewis was and still is the first real prototype of a modern day heavyweight boxer: ideal height, weight, athleticism, speed, power, strength, stamina, and even (the so often criticized) chin. I absolutely loved his fights later in his career, when he hired Steward! The balance and movement coordination which the legendary American boxing guru instilled in him and then honed to absolute perfection was simply phenomenal for such a big man in the ring! No awkward, clumsy, unnecessary movements, everything calculated literally in miliseconds and milimeters, every single action, move, punch or step with a clean purpose, no wasteful movements whatsoever. Simply almost professor-like, noble, highest possible art of heavyweight boxing! And he could adapt, even when things weren't going his way. He could be just as brutal and quick with certain opponents as he was tactical and patient with others. And just as you said, the guy's faced everyone. The only two boxers that could come close to him in terms of having that label of "modern day heavyweight" were the Klitschkos, but even they were inferior to him in almost every of the above-mentioned aspects, especially Wladimir with his questionable chin and heart. Vitali was way better in these two crucial departments, but we all still know how that fight with Lennox ended... And the brothers' resume of opponents and defining fights, even when combined, doesn't come even close to that of Lennox, though that's naturally not entirely their fault. True that Joshua and Fury both beat Wladimir, even if an aging one, but the former has meanwhile been badly exposed to Ruiz and Usyk, whereas the latter is still too inconsistent in his fights and preparation, despite still being unbeaten and recently doing his third number on Wilder, who's nothing more than a decent puncher that, boxer-wise, doesn't even come close to Klitschkos, let alone Lewis. So all in all, Lennox has all the reasons to stay comfortably in retirement and watch the father time do him justice.
Absolute all time great, just wish he’d been more aggressive at times.Holyfield 1 i felt Holyfield really couldn’t cope if Lewis put it on him a little.Lennox ised to look up to Ali but I think he’d have been better adding a little more young George to his game
simply the best heavyweight there has ever been. Ali is only considered the best cause he had a big mouth and kept telling everyone he was the greatest and a lot of weak minded morons believed it. lewis fought in a very strong era for heavyweights and he dominated. both his losses were clearly just blips against two guys who got very lucky. the way he destroyed both of them in the rematches goes to show exactly who was better. he didn't duck anyone, and most ducked him. just on his power alone he would have been top ten, but he had a great boxing brain and even when he had is opponents on the ropes he would still pick his punches and not just throw wild bombs, he was still looking for the best punches, still firing in from unexpected angles at the most vulnerable areas. the guy had it all. he wasn't weak in any area at all. people talking about him in the same breath as fury and joshua, they haven't got a clue. lewis would totally dominate today's fighters just like he dominated those in his own era. fury and joshua aren't even close. lewis was a master, and he made it look so easy. his style was effortless. i can't believe some people actually think fury or joshia could have beaten lewis. there isn't a chance either of them could have lived with lewis. he would take them both apart, bit by bit and leave them in a broken heap. he never got the acclaim he deserved and still doesn't. but i think i'll go with foreman's opinion about lewis, that he is the greatest of all time, and that's coming from a guy who faced ali and a list of great fighters.
No need to put down Ali, Ali fought everyone and dodged no man, beat prime foreman, prime liston and prime fraizer twice, also beat countless other legends, from floyd patterson, archie moore, to ron lyle, earnie shavers and ken norton, the guys resume is as deep as the ocean, he was also never kod his entire career (unlike lewis who was kod twice) Also Ali was the same size as most of his opponents he didn't enjoy a huge size and reach advantage that Lewis did over the majority of his opponents, Would Lewis of been as successful if all his opponents where just as big as him? I doubt it. I rate Lewis highly by the way he is one of the best heavyweights ever but no need to try and discredit a legend like Muhammed Ali.
Chin was fairly weak though but agree in most points. Gas tank wasnt the greatest if he went for it got a lot of opponents out of there who could have taken the fight to deep waters. Golota and grant.
Interesting about Emmanuel Steward telling Lennox he would be available right after the McCall fight. I always thought it was interesting about Manny training McCall when he beat Lennox, then being in Lennox' corner when he beat McCall.
Almost the same thing happened with a brit called Dennis Andries, who was a bit raw and who lost to Tommy Hearns. After the fight he packed his bags and went with Kronk, refining his technique and winning back the world title two more times

Yep, Mike wanted absolutely no smoke with Lewis, he even said when he retired ''I could've never beaten him (Lewis) He's just too big and too strong.. a masterful boxer'' Mikes own words. And most Mike fans complain that Lewis only fought Mike when Mike was finished in 2002, but that was because Mike had dodged him for 6 years since '96 when he gave up his WBC belt rather then defend it against Lewis when Lewis was mandatory.
Yeah and then they did and lewis knocked him out. Sick to hear peoole say about their "peak" buisness. People forget lewis is younger, and lewis was just as dangerous in his prime. Difference is tyson was moved differently and his story was more controversial
devon alexandra please do your research, when mike was 17 he had a spar w Lennox Lewis and Lennox got knocked down, also when mike was running the heavyweight division in 1986-1990 Lewis was ducking to become a professional any earlier as he didn't want no piece of mike at 20 years old as he was a force to be reckon with. Now don't get me wrong Lewis is an exceptional fighter one of the best to come out of Britain, but you cannot say Mike was ducking him the man feared no man, also I'm not saying the result would of been different if they fought both in their prime no one knows but Tyson was a different breed when it came to boxing so allow the disrespect on his name

Great interview! This mans career is stellar - Undisputed HW Champ of the world, he even beat Mike Tyson by KO !
He did but that was a past his prime 36 year old Tyson. Had they met before Tyson got jailed, it would be interesting.
@@haddingtoniangcp2464 . It was a, probably, past his prime 37 year old Lewis that fought Tyson too. I agree it would have been interesting. Tyson did say he could never have beaten Lewis though at any stage because Lewis was too big and too good.

Disappointed that there’s no footage or imagery from the fights...feels at little flat.
Read this comment while the ad was playing. Cheers mate that’s me put! 🤝
Same didn't bother watching after reading this comment
You can find every fight he mentions on RUclips, often with HBO commentary -- which was so much better than Sky Sports'. Jim Lampley, George Foreman/Roy Jones, Larry Merchant/Max Kellerman. Magic.
hbo owns the footage
totally, sky dropped the ball on this, we've come to expect better production quality, even by individual youtubers, surely sky could have put a few flashback montages together to help visualise the fights
Probably the 2nd best heavyweight ever. Peak Ali probably finds a way to beat him, but no-one else. Louis was vulnerable to a big hitter, and Lewis was always at his most dangerous against guys who could punch.
Lewis retired rich and healthy, and has stayed retired, rich & healthy. Admirable!
The boxers of Ali's era wouldn't stand a chance against the likes of Lennox, he's George Formans size and power with smarts and skills to match his own including the greatest jab in history, there is nothing Ali could do to seriously harm him. You can maybe make a debate for whos got the best career but not about the 2 in a face off
I think Larry Holmes would beat him in a very close fight
Lennox is a legend. Great man and doesnt get enough respect.
Lennox Lewis is one of the greats I've grown to appreciate him the more I watch his fights or see his interviews.
Top 5, maybe Top 3 of all time. Underrated.
Top 2.
Peak Ali probably finds a way to beat him, but peak Ali beats anyone. Joe Louis could get hit and knocked down, and Lewis was always at his most dangerous against dangerous opponents.
Best heavyweight I ever watched in my time. He had all the tools and whooped up on real competition. In my 34yrs of life nobody was better.
Yes, of course Lennox Lewis is best, Mike Tyson didn't get chance or did Evander Holyfield.
Agree. Though it would have been interesting to see him fight the Tyson who destroyed Spinks or the Bowe of the first Holyfield fight.
@@alistairhann2094 it sure would. But those two guys are the reason it didn’t happen. Being the best also means longevity, spanning eras. Like Ali did.
Living legend
*He defeated every opponent he faced* including rematches. Losing just twice in his career, he avenged those losses. Forget the draw he had with Holyfield as we/most know that was a rip off! Lennox is a great without a shadow! *TOP DRAWER FIGHER OF THE HIGHEST*
Then you have AJ saying he’s a clown. I don’t know for what reason though.
@@ZAXN I personally didn't like Lewis, maybe because of the reasons he said, maybe because I was a Tyson and Bruno fan. Something I can say for sure is AJ is not fit to lace up the man's boots.
@@ZAXN Lennox would smash AJ.
General what do you mean by that? I generally dont think AJ is great at all imho. But what do you mean though?
gwl78 your right he would, but i still dont get why AJ called him a clown.
The greatest heavyweight Boxer of all time in my opinion. He lost those two fights because he took his eye off the ball, he then went on to avenge both defeats. It really pissed me off when people said he was Canadian. He was born in London, end of story.
Dominic Clarke
My Dad was born in India, my mother in Scotland. I’m British so is Lennox
Bruno was terrible and his style was horrific. Bruno was one jab and grab . One jab an occasional right hand and grab . He was so frustrating to watch .
Faster? Was a plodder with a powerful right hand and ramrod jab. And even more powerful laugh.
Bruno was fighting for pride in that one and fought out of his skin.
He beat everyone and wiped out the division . Got out on top and kept his facilities about him.
Faculties
Excuse me, faculty’s , not facilities.!!
Lennox Lewis is a giant and one of best boxers in my life time...He is a gladiator that always leaves the arena a winner.....
Lennox Lewis, one of the all time greats, for sure, and a class act always . Have a GREAT retirement , champ...You have nothing more to prove . All my best to him and his family.
The rematch against Rahman was one of my favourite fights.
One of the best ever
I’ll put Lennox next to ali when it comes to greatness and bein smart and intelligent outside the ring👍👍
Imagine how much more popular Lennox would have been if he were representing US. Such a humble and gentle warrior
This is an unbelievably insightful interview, Lennox comes across as a very intelligent guy.
Awesome, Lennox Lewis one of the very best Heavyweights of all times.
The greatest of his era...by far.
Greatest heavyweight since Ali.
dndjfjdjdjf dx Absolutely.
Not even debatable
Not even 80s Mike tyson? Prime Larry holmes? Bruh
@@torgeirmacqueen8226 80s is weak. Tyson only dominate transition period between 80s and 90s. 90s is real deal cause it is too stacked. It is comparable to 70s Ali era. That's why lewis is goat since Ali. He is similar to Ali in which both dominate the stacked era. Ali with 70s and lewis with 90s. Both with an eye will know lewis and Ali is top 2 of all time in hw.
What a great guy. So glad I watched this interview. An awesome boxer and what a phenomenal knockout specialist also. He is not given enough kudos - but as he said time will only continue to prove his greatness.
One of the greatest of all time..
The greatest fighter in history next to Ali and sugar ray. I was blessed to be born to watch this legend grow.
Lennox Lewis is the best would eat todays current top contenders 💯
You are a madman u haven’t heard of Tyson fury I guess
A great fighter inside the ring and a gentleman outside
One of the greatest of all time.
Absolutely one of the Top 5 heavyweights of all time 💪🏻🥊🥊
Brilliant heavyweight, one of the best without a doubt and a decent guy. Loved watching him during a great heavyweight era. Glad he had the smarts and strong mother so he still has his marbles and money!
Very articulate for the ammount of wars he was in! Great to see this champ in great shape mentally
What a lovely guy. A gentleman.👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
👍👍👍
One of the BEST EVER! Love the TYSON memories when they were in their adolescence! Beautiful, a beautiful human being!
George foreman called lennox the greatest heavy Weight of all time and that's a opinion I respect
I remember listening to Foreman call one of Lennox's fights when Foreman was on the comeback trail. He was quite open about the fact that Lewis was the one active heavyweight he had no plans to face.
Lennox a most respectful and humble guy and still a fantastic champion ,congratulations champ .
Lennox, Holyfield and Tyson would all beat the current heavyweights
Tyson fury would out box the 3 of them you clown
@@tyler136 no chance.
James Taylor We’ll never know
So many people say that but the truth is you'll never know. Look.
it would be between fury and lewis i reckon
There aren't many boxers who've had a career like Lennox who still speak this clearly
Lennox' never lost, he was just losing at half time...
Good honest interview from my boxing idol.. you did great Lennox and you’ve nothing to prove so don’t ever consider making a come back.. Respect and love 🏴
I've always said Lennox was the perfect heavyweight boxer. For me, arguably the greatest of all time. Top 3 for sure.
racist
Agree. European class.
A very good boxer and a gentleman also very well spoken
It's so true when he said about fine wine maturing , every year that passes his amazing career looks better and better, without a doubt one of the greatest Heavyweight champions of all time, pure class in and out of the ring
I hope you do not come out of retirement. You had a stellar career, and your star rose very high and shined very bright. You are set financially and have a family. A man in his mid-50s shouldnt be getting punch in the head.
Lennox The Lion. Top 3 of all-time, and arguably the greatest heavyweight ever.
Too high
Ali and Lewis will always be my favourite boxers ever. I don't think some people get just how big Lennox was and his jab was like a haymaker! LEWIS! LEWIS! LEWIS!
One of the greatest.
The best thing Lennox did in his career was to stay retired. As he said everybody who came out of retirement were not the same as they were before retiring.
Lennox well done you had an amazing career and a healthy retirement.
Lennox won that frist fight with holyfield.
Yep I was happy he got robbed, Lewis is annoying
And he lost the second though. Switched off as he was prone to do and Holyfield went for broke and was a lot busier and braver
He won 11 of the rounds very clearly. Worst decision I've ever seen
Lennox Lewis is my personal goat. Such an inspiration
Most underrated fighter ever
You are talking about Lennox Lewis aren't ya you dummy and underrated lol he's rated up there with the best it just proves what you know and you've just commented just to say something my god man 😬😬😬😬
@@bloodyskidderz2221 People says he was boring etc. He wouldn't beat Ali or prime Tyson. He had everything reach size power skills speed quick reactions. It's pick him up to beat every fighter in history
Lennox was one of the best heavyweight boxers of all time, possibly in the top 5 best of all time. Nice guy, humble,HOF. Had no fear in the ring-looks and sounds healthy so best wishes to the champ!
This man is the best Heavyweight I have had the pleasure of seeing, we probably won't see anyone as dominant again
Manny Stewart was the catalyst that took him from great to unbeatable
One of the best boxers ever
Legend
Probably my favourite fighter ever. The best jab in the business for a heavyweight and it truly was a weapon,
absolute legend. The m'ost underarted and the best of all time. Better than Tyson. Ducked no one.
He is so much more humble than I thought he would be
Lewis is the greatest Heavyweight of all time. Change my mind.
He answered every question asked of him in the ring and has always been a totally class act. A real super star.
Tony Tucker could as well, he moved really well, but he wasn't as good and nowhere near as powerful.
criminally underrated. Top boxer one of the greats
Absolute all time great, just wish he’d been more aggressive at times.Holyfield 1 i felt Holyfield really couldn’t cope if Lewis put it on him a little.Lennox ised to look up to Ali but I think he’d have been better adding a little more young George to his game
Nah he gassed easily in some fights see briggs even though he won and rahman 1 paced himself well generally though. See tua.
He was the king of his era it's cool when your winning but he showed heart after his losses and came back stronger.
simply the best heavyweight there has ever been.
A true sporting hero and the true world champion…I salute you Sir Lennox.

And with Holyfield.

Probably one of the Best interviews I've seen. Great Questions great Answers. From the one and Only Lennox Lewis. What a Boxer and what a Gentleman. Blessed by God . Big time
The man that Mike Tyson paid money not to fight.....
