I would like to see Reolink integrate its cameras so that when one camera detects motion, other Reolink cameras can zoom/focus to a preset point that the user can choose. Thanks for taking the time to post the video.
Similarly would be nice to be able to trigger the spot lights on selected (or all) cameras simultenously. Integration with Amazon Alexa would be handy.
Perfect timing for this video. I only just watched your older video for the black doorbell yesterday and wished you had a video for the new white model with package detection. A day late, you release this video. Thanks very much. I haven't seen another video comparing the two models. Thanks for delivering on this.

I got the WiFi version as I already had power wires to the door. I planned to lay ethernet too but no rush as WiFi is working fine. I have the option now.
Most people will have the doorbell wiring anyways but I did choose the WIFI version mostly because with a cloud subscription, you can also have rich notifications.
I believe they released a second gen of the black one that has all the features of this white on but still 4:3 ratio. I see different versions on reolinks firmware page
Another great useful video. Very much appreciated. A special request : you should show the setup for recording both to the NVR or Hub & the SDcard. Currently I'm using the hub and cannot see my SD card, it does not show up anywhere in the app or the PC client... It would great to record and have access on both. Thank you.
I have mentioned this on my Hub review.. I think but at that time I was testing it, the SD card is able to record motion events but you will not be able to view it on the app. Reolink will or has update this, I'm not sure when. As to the NVR, you have to setup the doorbell by itself first (not plugged in on the NVR) and when you go to the NVR settings and add a channel, it will show up there and you can add from there. Then, it will records to both the SD card and the NVR.
Great info! I had a whole aystem delivery this week and about to install this weekend. Just returned the black doorbell and repordered the white one. My porch and stoop is not real wide and having more vertical view will see a package better and the stairs/walkway leading up. Funny reolink doesnt make that super obvious in their amazon listings.
@@LifeHackster yeah and they don't make the model numbers very obvious either between all those types of doorbells. Another crazy thing is you can't add it to your NVR without setting up a monitor on it.
It seemed like the new doorbell had some ghosting or artifacts while the old one was crystal clear. Did it appear that way to anyone else? Was it because the old one had a wired Ethernet connection (though not POE) while the other one was using a WiFi connection?
The old black Reolink doorbell audio/speaker function via app wouldn't work when echo show displayed live view, has this been fixed on the new white version? Thanks
Looks like the issue of viewing notifications event where you have to start at the beginning of the 5 minute clip rather than going directly to the motion event hasn't been fixed when recording continuously.
@@LifeHackster Looks like the desktop app lets you jump to the exact motion notification event on the timeline. The interface could use some improvement though like maybe having a screen where it lists the motion events with thumbnail like with the cloud service. Having it in the mobile app is the best however since you don't always have a desktop or laptop available especially when not at home.
Network wiring is best, BUT keep in mind that some Hacker can plugin their Laptop, too - so you need to adjust security/firewall/router settings to let this plug only communicate with the NVR or Reolink Cloud
Which hacker do you think would go to your front door knowing that it is a video doorbell recording them and already sent a notification to the owner would spend their time guessing... is the doorbell connected to the NVR only? is there an ethernet plug on there or is it only WIFI? Is the doorbell connected to VLAN? Hold on, the ethernet cable is too short, I need an extension to plug my hacker laptop in....
@@LifeHackster 🤣First - I love your Channel. 2nd - As IT Security Consultant I'm always worried about leaving RJ45 Ports 'open', w/o VLAN, MAC Filtering, ACLs etc - and I do carry RJ45 Extension/Couplers and Patchcords etc with me wherever I go ;-) Bad Habbit, I know. You can flood the LAN so any recording to the NVR will be interrupted.
working with existing chime requires a capacitor on the chime to supply power to the doorbell when the button is pressed. If someone presses and holds the doorbell for too long this drains the capacitor and the doorbell shuts down, so separate external chime with its own power supply is better. The battery version could replace the capacitor but would still need to be wired and the wires could may charge the battery and that would supply the additional power needed.
@abc123fhdi that is my understanding of what they should (or could) have done. Just want to verify if they actually implemented it. There are other hacks to get even the current non battery version to work with chimes. Just want to see an official attempt before trying a hack. Already own an original POE version. Want a second non POE version for a different location.
Hi there - I have had my electrician run an ethernet cable for a new doorbell - should I just buy the PoE version or can the wifi be used in the same way? (or is the ethernet port in the wifi only for network connection not power?)
