This man gave us Blade Runner, Alien, Gladiator, Black hawk down, Kingdom of Heaven, The Martian, Last Duel and upcoming Napoleon movie. Ridley Scott is unarguably one of the greatest Directors of all time
I've known this very talented director since I saw "Gladiator" and have been an dogged fan of all his films ever since: from The Duelists to Alien to end The Last Duel. A director who has always been attentive, almost obsessively to the image, but above all to the scenic representation which is of vital importance for the story and with a particular skill in the use of long and panoramic shots of great effect. The cinematographic contribution that Ridley Scott has given to us viewers with historical and sci - fi films is immense. "Blade Runner" is immense! Also, I think this is your 30th video on the filmography of a director, Marc. As always: Great job! 🎥
The director who introduced me to cinema, the name that at first glance I associate with the creation of worlds and imaginaries. Beautiful montage that summarizes the style of such a versatile and always recognizable artist. Just one observation: you forgot The Counselor :)
My favorite of his actually is and always will be Thelma & Louise! Super underrated for how brilliant is and always overshadowed by all the sci fi stuff he did later and before. I love Alien and I think visually he really delivered with Prometheus and Covenant too. He never made a really bad movie but Thelma & Louise is his simplest and most straight foward film and the only one I'd call perfect! Love it!
Ridley Scott truly understands the beauty of filmmaking Alien, Blade Runner, Legend, Gladiator, American Gangster, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant are among my favorite movies of his.
La musique choisie est dingue. Une des plus grands cinéastes, je suis content qu'il soit toujours aussi prolifique, on lui doit de nombreux chef d'œuvres ainsi que de nombreux sujets importants
@erykmelgaard2226 cool anyway I saw both Alien (1979) directed by Ridley Scott and The Thing (1982) directed by John Carpenter as a kid and they are both my favorite sci-fi horror movies and The Shining (1980) directed by Stanley Kubrick is also my favorite supernatural horror movie and all three of them are my most favorite horror movies and it's because all three of them are all about isolation as well:).
Wow! Magnificent! The "Tears in Rain" clip made me tear up, thinking "I'm going to have to say goodbye to all this, just as he has," meaning both Roy Batty and Rutger Hauer.
This is what I was hoping for, because Ridley Scott is one of my favorite directors of all time, and I love his movies like: Gladiator, Kingdom Of Heaven, The Last Duel, The Martian, Black Hawk Down, Blade Runner, and Alien
My favorite director. He may not be as consistent as others but goddamn, when Scott hits, he ABSOLUTELY fucking hits. Had the pleasure of seeing three movies by him on the big screen last year (a screening of Alien + The Last Duel and House of Gucci) and seeing his frames on a big screen is like being born again. This is what lacks in indie (well, youtube) filmmakers. Movement. Every frame has some sort of movement in it. If the shot is locked off, and the characters aren't moving then you best bet there will be some fog/fire/shadows/flickering etc. Every single shot has life.
@@playstationaccount4473 I wouldn't believe camera quality is inherently the problem, it's their usage. Too much corner cutting with plonking a camera down and thinking whatever happens in the scene is interesting enough. In Ridley Scott's films he envisions life in every frame. He and his DoP light with the full gamut of exposure: shadows, mids and highlights.. that's why there is so much three dimensionality in his pictures, and it's only every helped by the fact that there is always movement in the frame. Look at 1:18 .. the character in frame is not moving much, but the birds beside him have their own life. On the topic of cameras.. with digital you can gauge exposure levels better than before, so there is no excuse as to why things are exposed terribly. And by the way, not every film looks perfectly exposed or graded anyway. Cameras aren't to blame. Shane Hurlbut mentions something called "Camera emotion". Meaning there is a language and presentation to what's going on. The movement is also meant to synchronize with the music. And lastly. Film vs digital plays a big part too. With digital there is a yearning for technological perfection. The hunt for zero noise and more dynamic range has made images a little more sterile. Film is not perfect, but that's why it's still special. It's the blood that runs through the image.
